Just a shadow of the first one

If you are a serious gamer and not a 13 year old kid then don't waste your time or money on this game, the only thing that compares this with the first one is that it has the name god father in it. You can beat it in no time, the maps are small, the plot is weak, and it is no where near in depth as the first one. The only good thing to come out of this game was the addition of having your own family and being able to improve their skills and abilities. If you really want to play it just rent it.

this game is really sick. It is the longest game i have ever played, had about 16 hours played by the time i finished. The melee combat is crazy brutal and the executions are sick as well. There are some really strange bugs in it, like if you crash into some cars or dumpsters, they just disappear into thin air, or sometimes your car will just poof away and you have to go find another one. But they are not that big a deal. Would recommend a rent though, after one playthrough im not sure im going to play it again. Unless you dont have the time to beat it in 5 days, then buy it.

Godfather II is a third person shooter taking place in an open world, and both story-based and side missions involve hand-to-hand fighting, guns, and driving. This games also features "Black Hand 2.0" controls where you can grab, knee, kick, and head-butt enemies. In a gun fight, you can use a target-lock or free aim at specific parts on enemies, and disarmed or injured enemy can be approached and executed. The weapons in the game, shotguns, handguns, and machine guns, have their own levels and statistics, and you will be able to purchase licenses to use higher level weapons with more skill.Don's View a strategic overview of the world, you can order members of the family to expand or protect his territory.Taking over businesses is the main source of cash and reputation. But it's really hard to recommend because of the numerous bugs and glitches and dumb A.I.,and weak story

Much different than GTA 4. It's own game.

As someone who played their first Grand Theft Auto game (a month ago) after playing the first Godfather on both PS2 and the 360, I have to say that this game isn't comparable. I'm 2 hours into it (it's the end of the semester, give me a break)
While it may have some of the basic things the same, that you can steal cars, shoot random people etc, there are so many different strategy aspects of this that GTA 4 doesn't cover. It's its own game DON'T compare them.
The folks at EA, took a hint from the RPG world, and you now have your own family, and from what I can tell, can have a group of 8 people, with 3 of them being in your actual group (that travel with you). Each member has different abilities (that you create your group with) Demolition, Arson, Engineering, Medics etc. (and each individual character has a different personality) You use money to upgrade themselves and your character (changing outfits is free) and playing on Xbox Live with your crew will actually help level them up (very interesting)
You can't shake down all the businesses, (there are specific ones you have to) and a lot of people randomly need favors, some of which require hurting businesses that you are supposed to be protecting.
Committing crimes in the view of witnesses will cause the cops to look for (not chase you) you (you're safe so long as you get out of the area, because the witness can't accuse you) So far my biggest problem with it is everytime I've gotten into an instance where the cops have chased me, everyone in my crew has died (however, 12 minutes later they're ready to serve again). The cars explode really easially. =\
The Don's View is really really interesting as well. While I'm doing the missions, I can set guards at my businesses (for a fee per day) and the computer actually attacks my businesses, depending on how many guards I have, or if I send another of my family depends on if I get it.
It's REALLY REALLY different than anything else I've ever played, and I've been playing video games (every different genre except suspense like resident Evil stuff) this is truely different, and props to EA.
Go out and buy it, it's worth it. =)
So far, 2 hours into it, my biggest problem

The game was very exciting. The new family option was a great add-in from GF 1. Now you can have your own underboss, capos, and soldiers. You can send them to rival families establishments to take over them or bomb them while you are engaged in other aspects of the game. The other thing that i found to be fun was that the computer actually fights back and attacks your turf this time around. If you dont send enough force to defend your rackets then you will lose them. I did not like how i could not buy safehouses with money this time around. You had to wait for them to be given to you. There also seemed like there were less rackets, establishments, side missions, and safehouses than in the first game. The map did not seem as vast but the fact that you could travel between three different cities added a new twist. Overall great game, i had a fun two days playing this game.

This is an awesome game. if you like taking control of people, cities and whatever, then this is your game. i was too excited to rent the game so i just went out and bought it on friday. i beat it sunday. i was sick so i just played it forever. it was so addicting. the only thing i hate is how you cant jump. it really makes me mad especially online when you are see a guy and theres a short wall in front of you. you lose the guy because you have to go all the way around the other side and he ends up killing you. the camera also bugs me alot too. they also should have made more things to do once you beat the game. all you can do is get cops on you and rob banks.

This is an awesome game! My copy of the game had no bugs or glitches in it. There's always one person to write a bad review about something great. (below)
The best part about this game is the fact that you can control your family. You get to pick and choose to see who gets to be in it and who gets to be promoted to a higher position.
This game is a MUST BUY for any Godfather fan. Or anyone else that wants to play a great game.

I think this game is great. The singleplayer has a decent story and fun missions. You can make your player as well as the rest of your crew better by spending money on things such as marksmanship or health. You can even knock off your crew and hire better guys or play multiplayer with your crew and make them better. The only problem I have with the game is the multiplayer. The controls are bad and it's almost impossible to snipe somebody on the run. The single player alone makes this game a must buy.
