At first glance this movie could very easily be written off as merely another survival movie; however, its ambiguous tone and careful ambience inspires thought which is something I look for in movies. It is easy to label The Grey as a survivalist movie, and not even a great one at that, but I believe there is more to this film than a simple genre label. This film inspires different interpretations which is its greatest strength. The ending, although it may produce some negative reactions, was a perfect conclusion if the theme of the movie is kept in constant perspective. I would greatly recommend this movie, but I would also recommend it is not watched based on genre presuppositions, but rather evaluated based on its tone and themes: these considerations will make the experience much more enjoyable. Also, an honorable mention of the soundtrack is necessary.

    Bleak and Beautiful

In Alaska, when an oil drilling team's plane crashes in the frozen wilderness, the team's head of security must lead the team to survive the elements and a pack of wolves who see them as intruders. The Grey shows that we are all instinctual at our core when faced with impossible odds. Logic, faith, religion, or sheer determination sometimes give way to more base animal behavior in times of desperation. Alphas emerge to lead. Betas fight to be the top dog. And survival usually goes to the fittest. http://bit.ly/ynaJuy

I'm a sucker for Liam Neeson movies, so it was inevitable that I would purchase a copy of "The Grey". The film is actually better than I expected (even if you have to suspend your moments of disbelief at times regarding the wolves). The movie does have plenty of action, a great plane crash, and plenty of territorial wolves who want to do nothing other than eliminate Neesom and his band of survivors. If you liked Neesom in "Taken" and "Unknown", then you'll like him in "The Grey".

Very bleak, dark toned survival/man against nature film. I love Liam Neeson and Frank Grillo in pretty much any movie they're in. This movie is very intense and you're really rooting for the characters. The wolf scenes are very brutal, and there IS a brief scene after the end credits that may or may not give some viewers closure, for lack of a better term.

Spectacular scenery and on the edge of your seat drama with unexpected action . It is rather a slow mover at times , but not bad . Once you start this story you don't want get up and miss a scene or you'll miss the plot . If you liked Taken and Taken 2 , this is a movie you should watch . Not for everyone is the reason for a four star rating.

I love Liam Neeson and survival movies but I was beyond disappointed by this movie. It was slow, any depth the characters had was revealed too little too late, not enough back story and the ending will leave a lot of people guessing and wanting more..which you will not get. I'm sorry I bought it, should've waited for it to come to redbox.

Liam Neeson plays another tough guy in a bad situation, but that's not necessarily a bad thing. He and a few others crash down in the snowy wilderness, and in their effort to survive find themselves hunted by a pack of hungry wolves. This is a dark, slightly depressing film but still a fun ride.
