    Synopsis

    The Last Airbender
Suspense auteur M. Night Shyamalan takes a break from crafting original screenplays to tell this tale of a 12-year-old boy (Noah Ringer) who provides the last hope for restoring harmony to a land consumed by chaos. In a world balanced on the four nations of Water, Earth, Fire, and Air, people known as the Waterbenders, Earthbenders, Firebenders, and Airbenders have mastered their native elements. Though the masters can each manipulate their native elements, the only one with the power to manipulate all four elements is a young boy known as the Avatar. When the Avatar subsequently appears to die while still mastering his powers, the Fire nation launches a global war with the ultimate goal of global domination. One hundred years later, two teens discover that the Avatar and his flying bison have in fact been locked in suspended animation. Upon being freed from his prison, the Avatar embarks on an arduous quest to restore harmony among the four war-ravaged nations. ~ Jason Buchanan, Rovi

      Travesty to the Original Material

If you've never seen the original cartoons and are picking this movie up for your kids because think they might like it, do both yourself and your children a favor, ignore this film, and go buy the original Avatar: The Last Airbender cartoons. Shyamalan not only failed to cram an extensive amount of material into one film (the entire first season of the show), he also failed to make a film for the fans. He did not remain true to the source material; he changed names, personalities, and even the entire main character's inner conflict that the original show's writers beautifully created, built, and worked out through an entire season. I'd love to put the blame on the actors; nearly all of the cast projects cardboard dialogue and stiff acting. Several of them were huge fans of the original material themselves, so I had high hopes that that enthusiasm would carry through. However, an awful script full of exposition and cheesy dialogue plus a bad director can make even good actors terrible. The only saving graces for this film were the breathtakingly beautiful CGI backgrounds and the film's score. Beyond that, there is nothing worth watching in this movie.

Ok this movie has some issues like the pacing is very slow at times and some of the acting seemed rather stilted and the plot was kinda well... out there...and the movie was a good 20 min too long however i did enjoy this movie because i didm't have high expectations going in therefore it was better than i thought it would be and the sounds and effects were top notch which should look pretty great on blu-ray i think the biggest issue with this flick was the editing of the exposition scenes which seemed to go on and on and on. the best part was that noah ringer did a great job of playing the avatar and the slo-mo bullet time sequences are fun to watch.... to sum up this movie is at least as good as any twlight movie easily and people just flock to those things...

This movie was pretty good. I have seen the cartoon version and loved that so I figured I should check out the movie as well. I think the movie does a good job of transforming some of the aspects of the series into live action however it does skip over a lot and only showed 1/4th of the series. I would have liked to see more of what happened. If you enjoy the storyline I would definitely recommend watching the animated series. The animated series does do a better job of telling more of the story and gives more character descriptions but this was enjoyable as well.

When i first seen this film it was in the IMAX in 3D and for some reason it seemed so dark and hard to focus on i couldn't really get into the film...but now on blu-ray with the brightness turned up and the subtitles on...and some knowledge about the storyline....it is in fact much better...i've never seen the cartoon.... but i don't believe i would ever like it better especially if it is drawn anime style....as i find that very distracting i much prefer live action... i think the storyline is great and imaginative and the cinematography is amazing...the acting is a mixed bag....noah ringer does a great job as anng the avatar.....everyone else is not quite as good. still an enjoyable movie i guess just don't campare it to the cartoon .

This movie was amazing!I must have seen a totally different movie than all these other people. Cause I thought it was a very well put together movie. The visual effects where impressive. The acting was spot on. Especially the perfectly casted newcomer Noah Ringer. Some people dislike this movie when compared to the show, and some like it just fine (everyone has an opinion), I happen to be the later. I will watch this movie again and again, and like it just as much every time. Dev Petel was very good as Zuko. The plot changes from the show were to make it into a movie. No one said the movie was going to be a carbon copy of the show. It doesn't have to be. Standing on its own it was excellent. A+!!

I enjoyed the movie for what it was. The cartoon was great and people are always going to want to compare the two, and ultimately the movie will never be as good as the cartoon. With that said, if you go into it to enjoy a movie and not judge and compare it to the cartoon the whole time...you will actually enjoy it. And remember, its adapted from a cartoon and is ultimately a kids movie...so don't go into it expecting an Oscar performance.

This isn't a review for the actual movie, although I did enjoy it... even if it was a little bit of bad acting. The 3D effects were done quite well. I don't think this was actually released in the theatre as a 3D movie (I could be wrong). I have a M60 Vizio, 240Hz TV, passive 3D, and the effects are crisp and without any kind of lag. THe surround effects were done pretty decent as well. Overall, I would buy this movie at a discount price (I did), but I would not pay the regular MSRP. I recommend buying if it is below $15.

Critics have called the Last Airbender a bomb and I have seen many half star or no star reviews, but the movie isn't that bad. The movie is visually stunning. I've seen this the first time on a regular tube tv when it became available (can't remember if it was dvd or vhs), and didn't like it much then. But, the blu ray was on sale and watched it on my 65" 4k and even though it's not in 4k, the graphics are awesome. This movie looks great in HD. Thanks Best buy for the great prices on blu ray and my 65" 4k tv.
