Totally blind and deaf from age two, Helen Keller meets a blind dedicated teacher of the blind, Anne Sullivan, who refuses to see this totally non-communicative child live any longer in the dark in this 1962 biographical film set in 1887 America. At age 20, Anne took on the 7 year old Helen, and with great struggles slowly removes little Helen's fears and anxiety from being lost in a world without two of her senses, by teaching her how to communicate. Oscars were given to both Patty Duke and Anne Bancroft for their performances. A must see true story!

This film is a dramatization of the relationship between Helen Keller, a child who was both deaf and blind, and her teacher, Annie Sullivan It shows how Sullivan's tireless efforts enabled Keller to be transformed from a savage to a child who could be taught and eventually make her way in society. Very moving and inspirational.
