    Synopsis

Explore a postapocalyptic future in The Surge for the Xbox One. Technology has taken over the world and put humans on the brink of extinction, and you must don an exoskeleton to fight for limited resources. The Surge has innovative combat mechanics and a powerful character progression system for an entertaining and intriguing game.

    Features

Innovative combat mechanics and an original character progression system based on modular upgrades gained through tight, visceral combat

Set in a heavily dystopian future as Earth nears the end of its life, those who remain in the overpopulated cities must work to survive as social programs become saturated by an ageing population and increasing environmental diseases

As the intelligence of technology incrementally increased over the years, many jobs for the human race had been made redundant, forcing Earth's citizens to head out into the suburb

The world of The Surge offers a very grim vision of the future, where the evolution of our technology, our society and our relation with the environment led to a decadent state of the Human civilization

In the vein of Dark Souls, less punishing

The Surge's developers take a tried and true format and flesh out a real winner. I have struggled to enjoy Dark Souls because it seems that the player has to enjoy the suffering, and the final reward of success (if you can ever make it there). While the surge takes all the same elements, and without diluting the formula too much, brings a welcome and refreshing spin to it. The gameplay is tight, responsive, and rewarding to master. I am about 40% of the way through and can say I have mastered 2 out of the 6 known weapon types so far. Each weapon style brings a different experience and strategy to the game play. The theme is intriguing and the not overwhelmingly hidden voice recordings slowly piece together a story involving corporatism, a cataclysmic event, and struggle to survive. The voice over is done well, and the characters are intriguing but not necessarily deep.

While the story of this game is relatively short and a bit disjointed I still found it to be an enjoyable (kinda) playthrough. The combat system is interesting and unforgiving. Most of the bosses required several attempts before learning their patterns well enough to defeat them. I would have preferred more explanation and backstory as there were several times when going through when I was just a tad lost regarding the overall picture, which makes sense if you're going for an "immersive" experience. All in all it was fun to play though maybe better suited as a rental.

You seriously die if you get hit 2-3 times. It take a while to get to the point to get armor to survive 3-5 hits....... then if (sorry WHEN) you do die, or even go back to fill your health up, EVERY enemy you just painstakingly killed are now back, what the HECK?! I’ve been playing video games since the original Nintendo, and this is literally the most frustrating game I have ever played.

I'm a fan of the Demon Souls/Dark Souls games and The Surge is a cool spin on that type of gameplay. Not quite as polished on the souls games but still fun, and since I got this one on sale I feel I got my monies worth. And yes, like the Souls games, it's hard!

This game has been compared to dark souls but it has machine in it. This game has some awesome finishing moves which allows the player the cut off certain body parts. Which allow the player to upgrade his rig. I really joyed playing this game.

Well definitely a improvement to Lord of The Fallen but isn't strong in the narrative department & equipments isn't as varied as Dark Soul but is quite entertaining overall.

I am a huge Dark Souls / Bloodborne Fan and tried Lords of the Fallen and didn't really like it much. But I'm loving The Surge. Though the Surge starts out slow it definitely picks up in chapter 2.
