    Synopsis

    Three Kings
Three stars team up for this unusual look at America's role in the war against Iraq. In 1991, as the Gulf War winds to a close, three American servicemen find themselves happy to have achieved victory but wondering about the ultimate importance of what they've done (especially since Saddam Hussein is still in power). Major Archie Gates (George Clooney) is a decorated Vietnam veteran and special forces officer with two weeks to go before he retires; Sgt. Troy Barlow (Mark Wahlberg) has a new baby at home; and Chief Elgin (Ice Cube) is probably just going to end up back in Detroit. So when one of them comes across a map that seems to point out where Saddam's forces have stashed a large cache of gold they stole from Kuwait, they decide to follow the trail and take some of the war booty for themselves. However, the deeper they journey into Iraq, the more they see of the consequences of America's policies in the Middle East. Although President George Bush and the American military urged Iraqi citizens to rise up against Saddam Hussein, and pledged their support to a people's movement against the leader, Iraqis found that when they took to the streets against Saddam, the United States did not back them up, and the loss of Iraqi lives was fearsome. When Gates, Barlow and Elgin become aware of what's happening, they're torn between their desire to grab the fortune they came for and the demands of their conscience to help the people they came to liberate. Three Kings was directed by David O. Russell and marked a significant change of direction after his dark-humored relationship comedies, Spanking the Monkey and Flirting with Disaster. ~ Mark Deming, Rovi

Three Kings in my opinion is excellent movie, although sadly a bit "forgotten" over the years given all the huge other movie options out there over time. Anyone interested in this genre and has not seen it before, should take a look! Excellent cinematography, action, characters, and has a message. Very well done! They should release this in "Anniversary" format, re-vitalize it. Excellent price point currently, almost no reason not to have it!

I saw this when it first came out and before I knew who David O.Russell was and I really enjoyed it. It was engaging and clever and had some very interesting camera work. Now that I’ve become familiar with the directors other works like American Hustle, The Fighter, I Heart Huckabee, and Silver Linings Playbook, I realized it was lacking from my collection and Best Buy had it for a good price so I picked it up and I’m glad I did.

David O. Russel's making of documentary is worth the price of this disc alone! Future film makers take note! His video diaries are very revealing about the business and process of making a movie. As for the film itself, the performances are great! The story is also fun and effectively engrossing. The director has crafted a fine film here! The bluray looks and sounds terrific! And there are plenty of entertaining disc extras to peak your interest in Russel's film making journey. I highly recommend diving into this Blu-ray.

I picked this movie up from the 5.99 bargain bin. This was an old movie but with the all star cast I was hoping for a great movie. After watching I think the movie was just ok, the transfer was a little grainy in parts for my taste, and soft in some scenes which was a little weird. I don’t regret watching it for the price but the movie is kinda dated. Maybe one you want to look out for on a free streaming service.

Im glade this movie came out in Blue Ray, if you like war movies, action and Middle Eastern rap this movie is for you. The main actors played by George Clooney, Mark Wahlberg and Ice Cube create a great team as they drive around Iraq, helping refugees, stealing gold bars, and serving in the first D.S. war.

I decided to move this up to a full five-star rating because there's really nothing I can think of that I don't love about it. It's not an absolutely perfect film, but in terms of fantastic performances, cinematography, score, editing, pacing and the perfect blend of action/comedy/drama; it's an exceptional one where no faults have any effect on my overall experience with it.

The plot was schizophrenic, caught between humor and anti-war themes. Yes the juxtaposition made the anti-war scenes more brutal, but progressively made it harder to enjoy the humor. Would have preferred one or the other being more dominate.

Although I may not agree with some of the political views of the movie, the story is well done. But the main reason I purchased the movie, is because of the filmmaker commentary.
