      Phenomenal story; lousy extras

Russell T. Davies is an amazing writer!!! My wife, whose favorite TV series of all time used to be classic Doctor Who, never though the Doctor could be brought back. Now I think she says that no one but Russell T. Davies could have brought back Doctor Who, and then surpass it with his original series Torchwood. Torchwood: Children of Earth has to be one of the best science fiction serials ever. Russell T. Davies did not focus at all on preserving every thing for future seasons, but instead went all out with an amazing and thought provoking serial, in which in the end everything came together. The fact that the story has provoked so much debate is just one more sign of its greatness. My wife and I spent hours discussing it after the final part aired. (In fact I left work early that day so that I could be home in time to catch it when it first started, rather than watch it later.) I am sorry that I am limited to giving the story only 5 stars. When we watched Torchwood: Children of Earth on BBC America, we were very pleased that BBC America aired a 1 hour special before the 1st episode, in which they went over the history and writing of Torchwood up through the end of the previous season finale. Then after each of the 5 episodes of Torchwood: Children of Earth, BBC America aired a 15 minute special, in which the writers and actors discussed that evening's episode that had just aired. Fantastic stuff. Unfortunately, NONE OF THIS made it to the Blu Ray set. One of the reasons we invested in Blu Ray was not just for the better picture and sound, but because Blu Ray sets tend to have even more extras than DVDs. We are very disappointed that this set has but a single 1/2 special. At a minimum we expected the trailers and all 6 specials. Now we have to transfer them onto a disc from our DVR. If we have to do that anyway, I almost feel like what was the point of buying the set on disc at all. However, my wife points out that it should be bought because despite the lack of extras, it's not only still Torchwood but it's Torchwood: Children of Earth- one of the greatest sci-fi serials ever. In fact, forget limiting it to sci-fi, Torchwood: Children of Earth is one of the greatest stories and serials ever!!!

      "We ... Are ... Coming!"

Just finished watching the first broadcast episode of Torchwood and I have to say that if you have never seen any BBC before that this particular series, "Children of Earth" is definitely the one to get. Torchwood: Children of Earth starts the Third Season of the Series and the premise is that aliens are returning to Earth after their last contact with the planet, over 40 years ago. As the British government attempts to understand why the children have suddenly stopped, all over the world, all at once, they start chanting in unison, "We Are Coming." The British government decides it needs to stop this from happening as they don't know what the aliens plan is for Earth and government officials start hunting down Torchwood one-by-one. While British television is sometimes hard to understand or to follow, this is one series that deserves a special look. It has the quality of a large big budget movie with all of the action of Indiana Jones, National Treasure and Star Wars all rolled into one. If you appreciate a solid story, good acting and high-octane action and adventure then I highly recommend this series.

Torchwood Children of Earth is a five part miniseries that aired on the bbc one in the uk but thank to youtube people like me in the us can watch them before they air on the bbc america .Now I will not spoil anything in this review for people that have not seen it yet but be for warn these episode are all connected together like 24 season so you need to watch it from the begining and there are part in this miniseries that will shock you, make you laugh, and even make you drop tears. This miniseries is not the best that torchwood has to offer but it still is a solid storyline and if for some odd reason we dont get a series four then this miniserie dose wrap everything up kind of good. That's all i will say about this dvd until the episode air here in the us.

Torchwood: Children of Earth follows the surviving team of Captain Jack Harkness, Gwen Cooper and Ianto Jones battling the British Government when all the children on the planet come under alien influence. The series has an explosive first episode (quite literally) and the remaining 4 episodes become very dark very quickly. The supporting cast is superb, and the 456 are as scary a villian as the Daleks. As with the end of the second series, Children of Earth ends with the characters making some unbelieveable sacrifices, including the loss of a major character. And Gwen finally answers the question, "Why doesn't the Doctor always show up to save the day?"

I had first seen Children of Earth on BBC America and thought that it could possibly be the best Torchwood story ever. I've seen a few interviews of John Barrowman (Cpt. Jack Harkness) where he had said that his character has flaws. Though episodes of the show have shown how these flaws none have done as such a good job as this mini-series. How they've done that is something you'll just have to see for yourself.
