Worth the wait
||Posted .Owned for 2 months when reviewed.I waited a long time for Kasa to release this item. So long, i forgot about it. Then one day, I saw it on Best Buy's site. Decided to give it a try. I installed this in my bathroom. Installation was very simple. I love all of the features it offers. I have mine set to brighter light during the day and dimmer lights in the evenings. Works perfect. Motion sensor picks up quickly, as it should. After reading some of the negative reviews, I almost didn't give this a try. Try it for yourself. You won't be disappointed. I have converted almost every switch in my home to Kasa. We are all loving our smart home! And this is a great addition.

Excellent Switch!! Great Combo Dimmer!!
||Posted .Owned for 1 week when reviewed.Love this switch. I really wanted to like Lutron more than these but Kasa switches just do more and I returned the 4 sets of Lutron ones. Motion sensor works perfect for my bathroom setup. The smart control is amazing once you fine tune it how you want your lights to dim throughout the day. Also these KEEP THE SAME BRIGHTNESS SETTING AFTER THEY TURN OFF unlike the Lutron switches! I don’t understand how such an expensive switch can’t even do that basic function. Also the ring light makes it easy to see in the dark too something that found annoying about Lutron all the buttons feel the same so in the dark it’s hard to find. For the price of one Caseta dimmer I bought 2 of these motion switch dimmers ($29 sale). But anyways I have these connected to Alexa and homebridge so they work with HomeKit too for me. I have fios gigabit WiFi and have never had any connection issues with these being slow or falling offline. Install was easy but it is tight fit and requires a neutral. So if you’re like me and don’t want to decide between feeding your kids or buying into Lutrons expensive set up save your money & buy Kasa instead.

Very underwhelming (this from a Kasa enthusiast)
||Posted .Owned for less than 1 week when reviewed.Every light switch in my house has been replaced with a Kasa smart switch, so I’ve been awaiting these motion activated dimmers for quite a while now. Their website has shown these as “Coming Soon!” For well over a year (possibly 2), so I expected they were fine tuning these prior to making them available for sale. Unfortunately that is not the case. Their main new function, the motion sensing ability, leaves much to be desired. I have found that the field of motion detection is only approximately 90 degrees from side to side. In fact, it’s so underwhelming that I have often been able to actually manually turn on the switch before the motion detection turns it on by itself. Other times the motion detection will engage slightly sooner, immediately before I press the switch myself, causing the lights to turn on and then immediately turn off. I previously had a motion sensing switch by Lutron and, while that wasn’t a smart switch, it had a nearly 180 degree field of detection, and I was never able to make it to within 5 feet of the switch before it detected the motion and turned on itself. Those switches have been available for years, so why the newly released KS220M switches have such poor motion detection fields, I have no clue. It isn’t all bad, though. It does offer the ability to create rules so that the motion detection feature only engages during certain parts of the day (whichever times you decide), as well as the ability to set it so that the motion detection will kick in only if the ambient light is at a minimum level, set by the user. One way that I have found to get around the delayed motion sensing feature is by adding a smart action via the Kasa app. For example, if I want my office lights to turn on via motion detection in the morning, I will connect the office light to the hallway light adjacent to the office, so that when the hallway light turns on, the office light automatically turns on as well. It’s aggravating that this is even necessary and is only so because of a subpar motion sensor installed in a product that has been in development for several years, but it’s better than nothing, and certainly better and cheaper than replacing the switches throughout my entire house with a different brand that has better motion sensing abilities. All in all, I would recommend these switches *when* the price drops to a more reasonable $25-$30. Currently at $40 per switch, these are absolutely not worth such a price tag. But if you’re like me and have a house full of Kasa products, then you won’t be deterred by the high price tag. Hopefully the motion detection issues can be corrected via a future firmware update, but I won’t be holding my breath.

Posted .Hi,
Thank you for sharing your experience with our Kasa Smart Motion Activated Dimmer Switch. In our testing, the KS220M is designed to have a motion sensing range of over 120 degrees, and should not encounter a significant delay between motion sensing and activating the light. Nevertheless, we hear your concerns and we would like to follow up with you to provide further assistance. At your convenience, please email USSupportTeam@TP-Link.com and include a copy of, or link to your review, and we will gladly follow up with you.

Review as of 2022
||Posted .Owned for 1 month when reviewed.I've read several reviews about nonresponsiveness, and I just installed one and thorough went through the configurations. While the response is not instataneous even on the most sensitive setting, it does react within 1 to 2 seconds - which is reasonable in my use case. If you want it to react as fast as possible, I would check the following: Set Fade On to instant, Manual Off Buffer to 5 sec, Montion Sensor as Enabled and adjust Sensitivity appropriately (I used Custom.), and Enable/Disable Ambient Light Sensor and set Ambience accordingly (100 is most sensitive). I think the biggest gotcha is the Motion Sensor and Ambience.

Awesome product
||Posted .Love it. Works great. Will be buying more to install around the house. I started with Lutron per my electrician recommendation, but it required a bridge ($70) & they didn’t exactly what I needed - sensor to turn on whenever someone is around & smart so that it only turns on within a defined time frame. With Lutron the light would turn on anytime it sensed someone, even in broad daylight which was annoying. Kasa fixed the issue and honestly the switch looks sleeker.

works alright
||Posted .Owned for 1 week when reviewed.just installed 3 of these, motion detection range is somewhat narrow as others have mentioned. otherwise, works great as a smart switch, can disable motion sensing as needed to work just a a smart dimmer only. not able to use motion capability as trigger for IFTTT.

Q: QuestionCan this Kasa motion activated switch turn on a remote kasa smart plug? Then when the switch turns off, it turns off the Kasa smart plug If not, is there a way to implement this capability? IFTTT? Alexa?
Asked by IR.
- A:Answer Yes, multiple Kasa devices can be combined to work together using smart actions within the Kasa app. They can be set to turn on/off with the switch. There's a slight delay, but it works fine. If you use a hub such as Smartthings, there might be even more options on when the actions activate and set more rules.

Q: QuestionDoes it come in three way? I’d like a Google smart switch one on the top of the stairs and one at the bottom of the stairs that picks up motion, hey Google and a manual switch … I am surprised at how hard it is to find 3-waymotion that works with Goole
Asked by TxCash.
- A:Answer Hi! No, we do not currently offer a 3-way dimmer plus motion and ambient light sensor switch. However, we appreciate your interest in this type of product, and we will share it with our Kasa team for future consideration.

Q: QuestionDoes this switch work with smart lights? Constant power even if paddle is in off position?
Asked by Anonymous.
- A:Answer It will work with smart lights. The paddle on/off is really a toggle, so it can be controlled through the Kasa app whichever option you want. If you want motion activated features to control the light suggest use the smart switch as your master control
