I'm going against the grain here - Transformers5 was pretty much dragged over the coals by critics when released this summer, receiving the worst ratings of the entire series. Subsequently, the movie kinda flopped at the box office. Not surprising since the pop culture perception of the Transformers series is that they are mindless loud movies that bludgeon the audience into submission. While this may be true with Revenge of the Fallen, I personally have found that the series has gotten better as it has progressed. Well that sounds nuts right? How can part 5 better than part 1 or 2? Well, I guess you can call me a Transformers fan, and not just a casual one. Each subsequent sequel has delved deeper and deeper into classic Transformers mythology and lore. To the casual viewer, this may be a confusing hodge-podge of whacky sci-fi ideas that stopped making sense since the first movie, but to a fan it's been the journey we've wanted... and now we're about to meet Unicron! I'll just leave it at that... Unicron. Yeah fans, will know this is something to get excited about. Aside from all that, the movie features a return of Mark Whalberg's character from the previous sequel, with the remaining Autobots and Dinobots (needs more Grimlock!), and also now has Anthony Hopkins. Is he slumming it in this? Probably, but it's a lot of fun. The best part of this movie may be the fact that Michael Bay has actually found a way to reign in it.... he actually provides what can be considered by him.. subtlety. Now before we get ahead of ourselves, this simply means that Bay has given the action scenes a little more breathing room. While still featuring the best VFX Hollywood can provide, the action scenes feel bigger than ever before but also not as crammed in and maddeningly fast-paced. You actually get to sit back and behold and digest some really impressive epic grand scale sci fi visuals, particularly in the impressive climax. It's hard to describe, but Bay has managed to make this movie bigger and more epic, yet also easier for the viewer to take it all in. He has shown signs of maturing as a director, albeit while making a movie series based on toys that attack other toys lol. So a little perspective here is needed, I am not comparing him to Orson Welles, but I also feel he has made the Transformers series his own personal vision and has finally refined it with The Last Knight. Too bad it's also his last entry in the series.... So while I get why most people crapped all over this movie, I also feel it's underrated and for true Transformer fans is a pretty satisfying and very epic chapter about our favourite robots from outer space.

Believe it or not, the transformers series hit a new low. With this film it seems like they just picked whatever they thought was cool and put it in the film. Example 1, according to this film, Frederick Douglass, Harriet Tubman, George Washington, Shia LaBeouf and many more are part of a secret organization to protect transformers. Example 2, they straight up ripped off a scene from the also bad, suicide squad. There are 2 good scenes. One that involves bumblebee in WWII, the other lasts 2 seconds. The movie is so long and boring that I wonder what drew Anthony Hopkins to it. Also if you are a transformers animated series fan, you’ll hate the changes that they kmade for the film. It seems like Michael Bay and the writers just picked things from the TV show, said “Who cares?” And did whatever they wanted to do. Cool special effects can’t protect this franchise anymore. It couldn’t since the third film. The characters are so shallow in this film that Mark Wahlberg’s character kept making fun of his female coarse because she was smart. We know she’s smart because there are characters reminding us every 10 minutes that she’s smart. But I guess Michael Bay never learned “show not tell.” This movie is a long and boring mess. And Optimus prime is barely in the movie so if you’re thinking of watching it for that then don’t. But I guess the Video and Audio are near perfect. Doesn’t warrant a purchase unless you really like it though.

I'm very much a fan of the original animated film and I'm still waiting for an "ending" movie that can do it justice. Sure, the original was to sell toys, and apparently they ripped apart your childhood in the start of the movie (so they could hopefully sell more new toys) - but you know - I still remember it. It shocked us to the core as kids and that's probably why I still think it's amazing. Now, I know this movie isn't the ending of the series (*wheu*), but I hope they make something better than this - it could have been so much more but... so many... weird... acting, dialogue etc. choices. So many things just felt wrong or out of place and really didn't feel like they even fit in the new modern take on the story. Which is just... odd. I bought this fully knowing what it was an I was still able to enjoy it to an extent. If you're not a big fan - rent it maybe (if you could find it to rent anyway) or wait for it for "free" on some streaming service that you already subscribe to someday down the road. I'd only get the movie if you're in the same boat I am - hoping that somehow, someday... they can do a proper finish.

I preordered the 4K Steelbook edition with great expectations. Thsi was the only one that I did not take my son to see in the theater...THANK GOD!!! I know that there are allot of folk who are very critical of Bay's vision when it came to the last 5 Transformers films, but I happen to find them all somewhat entertaining, and they all have helped tremendously when showcasing my HT system's ability to rock your world!! However, the Last Knight drained my spirit!! I actually stopped the film after an hour and decided to go jogging instead. This was the worst story line ever written, with senseless and obnoxious dialogue, new charters and a new team that add nothing to the story line, and reoccurring characters that should not have been revived!! With 1 star for the cool steelbook enclosure, visual, and sound effects, I really hope that this is the last installment from Director Micheal Bay!!!! Please do yourself a favor and wait to stream the movie or watch it free when available on Amazon Prime!!!

I've been a Transformers fan since I was a kid watching the original TV cartoons, had the animated movie on VHS, and own all of the newer movies. I don't go to the theaters anymore, but I was really looking forward to this blu ray release to add it to my collection. Mediocre reviews dampened my expectations and I almost didn't buy it, but I'm glad I did! The first time I watched it, I didn't think it was great, but for some reason, I kept popping it into my blu ray player, and I ended up watching it 5 times in a few weeks. It wasn't as good as the other movies, but the action was good. Each time I watched it, I enjoyed it more and more. I would still recommend this movie to Transformers fans. Even though I bought it primarily to complete my collection, I've watched this one more times than Age of Extinction. Below, I 'm saying I would recommend this to a friend, but in all honesty, it would matter which friend. I would recommend this to the type of person who is a fan of giant fighting robots (Transformers, Pacific Rim), but maybe not to someone who's looking for Oscar winning performances

First of all, the Best Buy exclusive Steelbook for this movie looks really nice! It has a glossy finish and the artwork they picked looks great! I am happy to see steelbook artwork that's actually good and, in this case, better than the standard blu ray cover art. As for Michael Bay's movie itself, I personally really enjoyed it. I know many people like to speak negatively about the Transformers movies and these films may not be for everyone, but I personally have enjoyed them over the years. The Last Knight is no exception. If you like the previous movies, you know what you are getting and chances are you will like this one. The action scenes and visual effects are top notch and easy to follow, the detail on the Transformers is stunning, the HD video and audio quality are pretty much at a reference quality level, and the soundtrack by Steve Jablonsky is epic as always. If you enjoy a fun action movie and you do not go into it trying to nitpick or be overly critical/serious, you might enjoy this film. Overall, if you enjoy this film, then this steelbook and just the blu ray alone come highly recommended.

The quality of the 3D presentation of this movie is excellent. If you have a 3D TV, I would recommend picking up this blu ray just on its technical merits alone. As for Michael Bay's movie itself, I personally enjoyed it. If you are coming into this one with high story and script expectations, sit down, we need to talk. The bad news is the story isn't great. It's fun if you don't poke too many holes in your suspension of disbelief. These movies have never been high art, but this is at least better than the last couple of films. Especially Dark of the Moon. The good news is there are tons of amazing visuals. Lots of explosions and robot fights. That's why we're all here, right? The 4K is very good. I don't have HDR yet, so I can't speak to that, but I did a comparison between the Blu-Ray and the 4K disc and you can see differences. Like most newer movies, I don't think this could look a lot better and the sound is amazing. If you have a good sub, the low-end gets crazy. You probably know what you are getting here, but if you liked the other (more recent) Transformers movies you'll enjoy yourself here. I'd probably go 4.5 / 5 for this disc, and 2/5 for the movie.
