    Synopsis

    Under Siege
Andrew Davis directed this exciting thriller starring Steven Seagal, sans ponytail, and featuring electric, over-the-top performances by Gary Busey and Tommy Lee Jones. This action saga takes place on the battleship USS Missouri, about to be decommissioned from service after a visit from George Bush. When Bush departs the vessel, a band of terrorists overcome the remaining skeleton crew and take over the ship, under the ruse of holding a surprise birthday party for the ship's commander, Captain Adams (Patrick O'Neal). The band is led by Strannix (Jones), a disgruntled ex-CIA operative, and his right-hand man, the psychotic Krill (Busey). The terrorists plan to steal the ship's store of nuclear warheads, transfer them to a stolen North Korean submarine, and sell them to a Middle Eastern country. Unfortunately for Strannix, he has overlooked the ship's cook, Casey Ryback (Seagal). Ryback is a much-honored Navy SEAL who, because of a minor scandal, is quietly completing his twenty-year tour in the galley of the Missouri. Forced into action, Ryback, along with the woman who jumped out of Captain Adams' birthday cake (Erika Eleniak), knocks off the bad guys one-by-one while crawling inside the bowels of the ship. ~ Paul Brenner, Rovi

i really liked this seagal flick i think its one of his best. His dry humor worked perfectly in this movie , if he turned out more movies like this one he would be a house hold name. The adition of gary bussey and tommy lee jones were great villans, over the top and very cool. Seagal plays a cook/ ex navy seal, and tommy lee and bussey plays terrorists, bussey is sort of the serious no nonsense type , and tommy lee is more the hippy type/lunatic. The scenes of the battleship were amazing, i like this flick because its not ALL about seagal like his other movies usually focusing on him an leavin the movie to follow. There are some cool scenes with tommy lee and bussey in this one you feel seagal is in the movie as opposed to seagal an then the movie. The action is of course great , seagal is in top form in this one showing of he really is a martial arts master, the best fight scenes are of seagal an tommy lee mixing it up with knives in the films finale, truly amazing becuz tommy lee actually holds his own against seagal . Over all a great action movie i only wish the sequel was as good

Under Siege is a classic and is nostalgic action movie to all children of the 80s as I think this is seen by my generation as the second or third great Die Hard esque subgenre of action movies where the plot is that the protagonist is stuck on/in a ________ and has to fight all the bad guys to get out. This iteration is on a boat and due to that setting makes it very interesting. Seagal is probably his best here and Tommy Lee Jones MAKES this movie great. Love the brutal fight at end in command center of the battleship. Blu ray quality is kinda "meh" but the cover art on the package is the original VHS box art which in my mind is FANTASTIC. No new updated version but the classic way-it-should-be cover art. Standard blu case. Definitely worth adding to a blu-ray collection that accepts Steven Seagal. 5/5 Stars!

Best Segal Movie, Pretty good movie overall

Sorry but the thought that a Navy SEAL is working as a cook on board a battleship is a bit far fetched, the story says it was due to a discipline issue in which he punched out his previous commanding officer, he would have been probably discharged. Then again, i don't even watch movies for their realism. The film itself is action packed and it is Segal playing essentialy the same role since Above The Law and every other of his movies, but in this context it finally makes sense. Tommy Lee Jones and Gary Busey are excellent villains. A must have for both action fans and martial arts fans. The sequel, Under Siege 2, not so good. As i said, its pretty much the exact same charcter, only in this one its the same name, but not as good as the original. If you like this one, i also recommend Above the Law and Hard to Kill. Segal may not be a Bruce Lee or Chuck Norris, but he has a place in any dvd collection.

      Probably Seagal's Best Film

I was never a huge fan of Steven Seagal, he always seemed to play the exact same character in every movie, and he quite unrealistically never seemed to get hurt or injured during any of his high body count excursions. But that's to expect of many actors in the action genre, so for what it's worth, I will say that 'Under Siege' isn't bad entertainment, and by far Seagal's best film. Widescreen.

I bought this because at the $3.99 bargain bin it was almost as cheap as a rental. This is Steven Seagal in his prime, early 1990's playing the role he does so well, martial arts / combat fighter for all that is right against impossible odds and a large well equipped and trained enemy. Set on a US Navy Ship it is quite entertaining.

This is the film that made me a fan of Steven Seagal. This flick has everything one would want in a movie: a pretty good mixture of action, violence, just a momentary flashing of boobs, and some pretty funny jokes and twisted humor from the actors spread throughout the film. I'm so glad to finally add it to my collection.
