At the absolute height of World War II, German generals hatch a daring plan to assassinate Adolf Hitler and effectively render the German war machine impotent. Directed by Bryan Singer, Valkyrie stars Tom Cruise as Colonel Claus von Stauffenberg, the real-life mastermind behind the elaborate plot known as Project Valkyrie: a plan to assassinate Hitler and overthrow his government from the inside. Stauffenberg has been a loyal soldier and an asset to the Reich for his entire military career, but after losing an eye, a hand, and three fingers in an Allied bombing, he reaches a breaking point. The destructive madness that his country is unleashing on the world has become too terrible for the colonel to stand silent. He joins the resistance movement -- a treasonous act, punishable by death -- and risks his life and the life of his family for the chance to change history. Comprised of high-ranking officials working in secret, the German Resistance has access to the inner workings of the government and military, putting them in the perfect position to dispatch the dictator and then use his own official contingency plan to seize power -- before the army, the S.S., and loyal party members can put someone just as diabolical in the Führer's place. ~ Jason Buchanan, Rovi

      Great movie!

This was a great movie with an incredible cast of actors! Tom Cruise may be a complete nut in real life, but he's still among the elite actors of this generation. He does a terrific job in this movie. Obviously, they don't kill Hitler, we all know that from history. But, this film does a great job of showing you the behind-the-scenes conspiracy attempts on Hitler by many of the people that served under him. This movie goes to show that just because someone was a N*zi in WWII, doesn't mean they agreed with what Hitler and many of the other SS soldiers were doing. This movie really does make a statement. There are many Americans who still tend to label all Germans as N*zis and murders. Those same people pointing fingers are usually the same ones driving around in VWs and Mercedes. Not all Germans were %100 behind Hitler. So, I highly recommend this movie, not only because it's a great action/ thriller, but because it gives you a different perspective on WWII and the N*zi army. If you like this, I also recommend Schindler's List and The Reader. (Also, I appologize, but apparently 'N*zi' is considered profanity, which proves my point earlier.)

      Worth owning

Tom Cruise has finally made a film worth all the hype. Playing the role of a Col. Claus von Stauffenberg, a disenfranchised German tank commander in WWI, Cruise takes the viewer through the upper echelon of The Party. We see both sides of an internal struggle between party members and ordinary German soldiers; what they went through, how they struggled with moral ambiguity in the face of duty, and the consequences of failure. Nothing is sacred in this film, not even the obvious absence of a believable european accent. However, Cruise begins the film speaking in german but quickly transitions to english while writing in his memoirs; a somewhat clumsy VO, but it still works. I should point out that this is not an action film. Although it tries desperately to be one. The script is well research, locations are amazing and the costumes are some of the best I have seen since "Schindler's List". Although some dramatic license is present, Valkyrie is a well produces story which does justice to those men and women who risked everything to destroy the "True Enemy of Germany."

      Valkyrie! Great Movie!

"Valkyrie" is a dang good movie. Even though you knew the ending of the story already before seeing it because it was a part of history, this movie doesn't fail to disappoint. So, I believe that the story was well executed and it was very interesting to see something told from within the enemies perspective. Also, I think that in "Valkyrie" they chose to speak english so that the film can appease to the american audience because it is a american film and they make a cool transition in the very beginning of the film from German to English which you will have to see on your own. The acting was brilliant, Tom Cruise did an excellent job and he was well supported by his fellow cast members. Overall, "Valkyrie" is an awesome movie that will keep you guessing and glued to your seat. I highly recommend this movie to anyone. So pick it up!

Great premise, how did they under-deliver?

I wont take for granted that your average American knows how WW2 ended or how Hitler died. Depressing but true. Most might just be in suspense wondering if this assassination plot works out. So as a suspense film about assassinating the most notorious and threatening monster of the 20th century, it should have worked. It didnt. And its super hard to put the finger on why. Fine enough performances, everything feels right on the surface. Just something failed to click, to connect to make this a masterwork of the genre. Pardon my lack of articulation on this but that's how I feel.

Powerful Movie - Delivers What it Promises

I felt after seeing trailers that the film would be big and loud, with stunning visuals and impressive scenery. The film certainly delivered on what it promised. The visuals of the movie were stunning and powerful, which made up for the generally average plot. The acting was fairly well done, but I really expected better. I mean, why is it that every one of the top German officers in the movie speaks with a British accent? Ooops! Well, regardless, the casting was well done and if you can just ignore its shortcomings, the film was well shot and directed.

      Vey well done movie!!

I thought that it was an excellent movie. Some of the actors spoke in their regular accents, most notably Tom Cruise, instead of speaking with a german accent. If you can look past that then you will love the movie. Its about a very interesting part of history and really makes you wonder what would have happened had they succeeded. The movie also really shows you just how powerful Adolf Hitler really was. I liked it a lot and the HD picture and sound really add to the overall experience of the movie. Go out and buy it. You will not be disappointed.

Prior to seeing this, I knew relatively little about the plot to kill Hitler. This Bryan Singer directed film starring Tom Cruise was captivating and grabbed my attention from the get-go. Well acted and directed the picture and audio quality of the blu-ray was excellent though short of reference quality. Extras were informative with 2 commentaries - one with Tom Cruise the director and writer. Other extras dealt with the sets and historical qualities. Also a Q&A with Tom Cruise and Bryan Singer. Recommended!

      First class WWII movie

In this historical drama, the Cruise character attempts to kill the leader of WWII Germany. Though plot fails, and most people should have already known this, the film is good enough to keep the viewer connected to the story. The movie touches on the numerous not so obvious requirements that must be addressed when attempting an assassination of this magnitude. The follow up extras were very informative and lent authenticity to the film.
