    At first the product was flawless. The first 2 years I had no troubles warming up my truck in the winter. It came with 2 key fabs and I predominately used 1 of them. Then one day it quit working, so I switched to the other one. It didn't work either. Replaced the batteries with no results. Best Buy said that the key fab went bad, which meant both were now useless! So i bought a new one and they programmed it for free! Then less than a year later the starter system went bad again. This time it was not the fab, it was a wire they installed originally which needed to be updated. Then when they tried to reprogram it, that fab wouldn't work! So I bought a new fab and everything has been working since. So I am on my 3rd fab, but Best Buy has never charged me for the labor to repair anything with the Viper System.

    Gone through too many remotes

    I installed my system around late 2010. This replacement remote works very well after it is programmed. I am still using the system and have not had an issue since. I have however gone through around 10-15 replacement remote since just because after the battery dies, the remotes pretty much dies with it. Once you open it and replace the battery, it does not work correctly or stop working all together. All you have to do is to by a new remote, which thinking about could have cumulatively bought me a complete new system. Just a wast.

    i have a viper remote start 5301 and this remote works great. it took me about 3 min to set it up with no problems. this remote if full black with rubber buttons and the best part is there's no backing piece. so you don't have to worry about the backing cover breaking all the time, this remote pops off from the front to change the battery and is more secured than the other silver remote. if this remote supports your model then I suggest you save the $30 and get this instead of the original silver remote. you won't be disappointed.

    I have to buy a new one every year it wears out

    If I had it to do over again I would not buy this product. I would have gone with another company. Every year I have to buy a new remote and they don't sell a more robust remote so I am stuck with it. I will be sure to tell everyone I know nit to buy viper remote start systems. I called the company and they said they would send me a replacement and they never did, bad service all the way around. Lesson learned.

    Once upon a time Viber made products that last. These fobs are unfortunately not one of them. Since having installed the Self starter we’ve had to buy many of these. They seem to go out like once every 9 months to a year. On my last vehicle my fob lasted the whole 5 years I owned my truck. Not one did I have to buy a new fob. The only thing I had to change was the battery (once).

    Good replacement but too many replacements

    While I really enjoy my Viper 5101 and remote start on my truck, they really need to improve the quality of their remotes. My system is 3 years old and came with two remotes. I have now worn out both of them and have had to buy my 2nd replacement. The remotes have a very limited lifespan. You would think that the remote would last longer than the battery, but that's not the case with these remotes. Other than that, the actual system, while a little slow to react, works fine.

    Product works great as a new replacement transmitter for the viper car alarm system.Both original transmitters went out at the same time after only less than 2yrs use.they we're not under warranty and alarm company wanted to charge $80.00 dollars a piece for the replacement Transmitters.Best Buy had the same items in stock and at a great price of Aprx $32-$33. Each,since i purchase the car alarm at the alarm company They configurated the transmitters for free.

    My original remote went kaput, so I purchased this back in August and never got around to trying to program it.. then I decided I didn’t want to mess with it, so I made a tech appt online. Was in and out of there within 15 minutes and there was no charge, great customer service! So far, the device seems to be working just as good as the original one.
