Working Great in Synology DS220j
||Posted . Owned for 1 month when reviewed. This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.I ordered two of these in 4TB capacity to use in my Synology DS220j NAS. No problems getting them formatted and set up in the Synology Hybrid Raid (SHR). So far these seem to run cool and fast. When copying data I was hitting the 1 gigabit transfer limit of my local network. Will update if anything changes.

Great Home/Prosumer NAS for the money!
||Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.Let me start by saying that this drive is a great value when considering the capacity for the price per Gigabyte. If my math is correct it is about $0.03 per GB of storage. The WD Red series have great capacity for the Network storage niche. I have been using Western Digital drives to store my important files and information for over 10 years now. I have yet to have a drive fail on me from WD. I still have all my older drives. The only thing that changes is capacity. Western Digital's warranty is great too!

Do NOT buy the model that replaced this one...
||Posted . Owned for 2 months when reviewed. This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. This NAS drive has been pretty reliable, but they seem to fail once the warranty expires after three years. This model has been replaced by an newer Red drive, the WD40EFAX which uses SMR technology, this drive uses CMR technology. While WD does not state it, you CANNOT mix CMR and SMR in a drive array as it will cause errors. The SMR drive also takes a lot longer to rebuild in an array. Unfortunately, if you want to buy a CMR drive you will now to buy the Red Pro line of NAS Drives.

Just as reliable as the other 3 WD Red HDDs
||Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.Love these hard drives. I added this one to my current array for 4 drives total. The other 3 drives have been running rock solid for the past 4 years with zero issues. Drives are healthy perform well.

Exactly what I needed
||Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.I recently purchased a NAS by Synology, the DS415+. I researched HDD drives and found the Red series by Western Digital to be exactly what I needed: fast read/write speeds, reliable, and good value. I saw the same drives on another website at a lower cost. However, BestBuy offered me a price match, and I also opted to have them ship my drives to the local store so I wouldn't have to wait for shipping. Quick and painless; good deal!

Good NAS Drive
||Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.I trusted Western Digital brand based on my experience. Hard drives actually do last but all will eventually fail after a few years so we need backups of course. Some fail sooner, some fail longer than the manufacturer's expected lifetime. This is the first time I'm getting the hard drive designed for NAS type. I hope this lasts longer than a standard hard drive.

quiet
||Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.I was skeptical of paying so much for such little storage because I always hate when a typically reasonably priced item is branded "x". As such all the reviews I have read said that you should buy NAS branded drives for their speed, efficiency, and reliability. So I did, and so far I am not disappointed. My initial setup is not in a RAID configuration because right now I just need the space, however I plan to add an additional 16GB and place that in a RAID 5 configuration.

Q: QuestionI have a SANNCE 4CH 1080P HD POE Security System NVR & 4x 2MP Bullet Cameras. Will this record for a 30 day period & will this work for this system?
Asked by DVR.
- A:Answer I would check out the Western Digital site. Usually they have information to help you select the best fit and determine the appropriate size for your application. They do make a drive, I think it may be their purple version, that mentions use for camera recording and I believe it is 7200RPM instead of 5400RPM.

Q: QuestionWhat is the type of technology used for writing to the disk? Is this an SMR (shingled magnetic recording) or CMR (conventional magnetic recording) type?

Q: QuestionI want to purchase a MacBook Pro laptop but I want to build it myself I wanted to know what's the highest internal hard drive I could put in could I go higher than 4 Tb if so how many an also gigabytes wise I would like to upgrade an how many gigs
Asked by FlashJordan.
- A:Answer 1. This drive is a 3.5” drive, not a notebook 2.5” spinning or solid state drive. 2. Many Mac’s only come with flash memory, so upgrading in a sense would just mean a build to order upgrade. 4TB would be very expensive for flash memory. 3. If you need exorbitant amounts of storage, the macs can be Booted from an external hard drive and that would give the option of very large hard drives. Much cheaper than Internal flash memory. My Samsung 2TB Ssd cost $ 120. 2tb flash memory in a Mac mini was $1000 extra. Check with Apple for storage limits, but with 64 bit OS ie catalina, storage should not be an issue.

Q: QuestionIs this drive WD Red 4TB NAS Hard Disk Drive - 5400 RPM Class SATA 6 Gb/s 64MB Cache 3.5 Inch? As I wanted to buy WD Red NAS drives for my NAS.
Asked by Srini.
- A:Answer Yes. Mine was.

Q: QuestionWould this work with my Dell inspiron 3650 i3
Asked by Slide.
- A:Answer Yes it would work. It's a standard 3.5" hard drive but it's mainly used for Network Attached Storage (NAS). The speed is only 5400 RPM which is more than sufficient for that type of application but for a desktop I would get a cheaper, faster 7200 rpm drive. Either the WD Blue, Black or Green will do.. It all depends on your budget.

Q: QuestionIs this drive with Western Digital's new 3.0 NASware or the old 2.0 NASware
Asked by Rokester.
- A:Answer It may vary and be somewhat luck of the draw, but mine were all the new drives manufactured very recently. Best Buy has a great return policy if they did send the older drives.
