Synopsis

Wet Hot American Summer
1980s teen comedies finally get the parody they so richly deserve with Wet Hot American Summer, the first feature film from writer/director David Wain and co-screenwriter Michael Showalter, formerly of the sketch comedy troupe the State. It's the last day of the summer season at Camp Firewood, and as camp director Beth (Janeane Garofalo) prepares to wrap things up, the staff of teenage counselors realize this is their last chance to do something about the summer romances that have been brewing for the past three months. Sweet but shy Coop (Michael Showalter) is crazy about pretty Katie (Marguerite Moreau), but there's the problem of her severely moody boyfriend Andy (Paul Rudd). Meanwhile, Victor (Ken Marino) is trying to score with sexy Abby (Marisa Ryan), who is known to make friends easily, and McKinley (Michael Ian Black) and Ben (Bradley Cooper) attempt to keep their hot and heavy relationship a secret. Meanwhile, arts and crafts teacher Gail (Molly Shannon) turns to her students for comfort as her marriage falls apart, drama coach Susie (Amy Poehler) tries to whip the talent show into shape with Ben's help, and camp chef Gene (Christopher Meloni) deals with his unique sexual quirks with the help of a talking can of vegetables (voiced by H. Jon Benjamin). Beth even finds time for romance with socially inept astrophysicist Henry (David Hyde Pierce), but first Henry has to save Camp Firewood from a large piece of space junk about to re-enter Earth's atmosphere. Like Wain and Showalter, Ken Marino, Michael Ian Black, and Joe Lo Truglio (who appears in a small role) were also members of the State; fellow State alumnus Kerri Kenney was cast in a supporting role in the film, but her character didn't appear in the final cut. ~ Mark Deming, Rovi

    Funniest Movie ever

-I used to think Zoolander was the funniest movie, but I was wrong, dead wrong. This movie is the funniest. Despite other reviews, because this movie has no huge stars in it is what makes it so funny. a big star in this movie would definitely take away from the awesome. There were several parts that I had to rewind many times. -It's a different kind of humor so it's probably a hit or miss movie, but if it doesn't hit with you then you have no soul.

Wet Hot American Summer is a strange, silly movie that you can not take seriously (that is a good thing). It's a good throwback to the 1980s and this movie was the start of a lot of big name actors careers. The Blu Ray when it's full price is a little pricey for this cult classic but on sale was for sure worth it. Had a blast with this movie.

Lots of fun going back in time to 2001, when this movie was made, and included several big-time stars to be, including Amy Poehler, Bradley Cooper, Paul Rudd, Elizabeth Banks and others. The movie's setting is August 1981 on the last day of summer camp. Sit back, relax and enjoy the party.

Wet Hot American Summer is a "camp" movie in more ways than one! The blu ray was released just in time for the internet prequel series. It's one of those movies that is so bad it's good. Great all star cast does a great job with the sometimes ridiculous, but funny material.

If you're a fan of Upright Citizens Brigade or The State, you'll enjoy this film. LOTS of now-famous actors and comedians are in this movie! I was interested after watching Amy Poehler in Parks and Recreation, but there are many other actors to keep you entertained.

other than seeing some actors in some of their earliest work, this movie just doesn't make it - camp movies are rarely great movies, but many are funny - this one just didn't have much to enjoy or relate to.

Wet Hot American Summer is always worth a few round of laughs. Not to mention the all-star cast. It's worth a viewing if you've never seen it, and worth a rewatch if you have.

Hadn't seen this one before Netflix started putting out their series on it, watched it before the first series (First Day of Camp) and thought it was hilarious!
