    Synopsis

What We Do in the Shadows
Flight of the Conchords collaborators Jemaine Clement and Taika Waititi reteam for this comical mock-documentary centering on four contemporary vampire roommates waging an immortal struggle to be cool. When they're not looking for their next meal or scheming to get into the hottest dance clubs, the bloodsucking foursome get their kicks by stirring up trouble with the local lycanthropes, or bickering to determine who's fallen behind on their housework. Rhys Darby, Jonathan Brugh, Stu Rutherford and Jackie van Beek co-star. ~ Jason Buchanan, Rovi

Was looking for some movies to keep me busy while recovering from surgery, and came across this in the new release section. Usually, being a movie nut, I tend to be aware of most movies released or being released in my favorite genres... That wasn't the case with "What We do in the Shadows". Reading all the awards, stellar reviews, and synopsis on the box left me intrigued. Taking a quick look online, where the movie sat at a 94% on Rotten Tomatoes and a 9/10 on imdb, I took a chance, and boy, was I glad I did. WWDITS blends smart humor, wit, and base comedy together in what can only be described as excellent. In many ways, it reminds me of much of Monty Python in the way it borrows from the many aspects of humor and somehow blends it into a perfect film. The premise is simple: a film crew is making a documentary based on a household of vampires ranging in age from 8,000 years old to 400. It follows their daily routines as they still have a hard time grasping the concepts of the modern age. Ranging in dilemmas from technology, to werewolves, to how to get into clubs without expressed invitation, WWDITS is everything Dark Shadows (the movie) wished it could have been. Quite honestly, while it would seem it would have a niche fanbase (vampire lovers) the comedy is pretty universal, and everyone should give this at least one viewing. ***WARNING*** there are a couple scenes that are a bit... bloody, (although played for humor) and may be a bit much for some viewers, but even for those that are a bit squeamish, the scenes are rare and mostly brief. Best comedy I've seen in a long time.

"Not another vampire movie" I said to myself as i heard about this movie and looked at the cover and synopsis. I'm glad this was another vampire movie, handled this way that is. Very funny. Very fresh take. It pokes fun at all the things we know about vampires and shows us what a pain they are to deal with in a modern world. It shows not the "twilight" side of being a badass vampire but more of the "man, that is a rough way to live." I never thought of it that way. All the normal vampire conventions turned against themselves for us all to laugh at. Great cast. Great look. Something different.

Although I've always been intrigued by supernatural stories/films, I felt that this was too...generic, shall I say. It was not bad, but was not at all as I had thought it would be either. I should probably have checked the reviews and such before hand...documentary style movies don't usually work well for me, but this spoof was just a bit too cheesy for my likes. Not bad, just not my likes...ranked along the same setting as the later Scary Movie films, the first 2 were enjoyable, but then they just got too cheesy, in my opinion. This seemed to start there

I found this film accidentally while trying to see if I could social-media-stalk the members of Flight of the Conchords. (You can.) I watched it theatrically to kill time one day. Brought my girlfriend back the next week to see it with her.) I laughed out loud at so many parts... even the "throwaway" bits. (Werewolf chasing imaginary stick.) This is a must-see for humor-lovers, vampire-lovers, werewolf-lovers, and people who desire to be held in high esteem by their peers.

If you loved Flight of the Conchords or Eagle vs Shark you'll love this one too. Great effects and humor. Even though it's funny there is plenty of blood and gore. And despite the werewolves' aversions to swearing, there is a fair amount of it in places, but not as bad as in a Melissa McCarthy movie. Definitely worth adding to your comedy collection and will be a good way to take the edge off Halloween.

At times I laughed out loud and at times i rolled my eyes. Here's how I think is the best way describe this movie: Think "The Office"- style mockumentary, with a "Napoleon Dynamite" lens for absurdity in everyday mundane-ness. Add some silliness and vampires and there you have "What We Do in the Shadows" If you do not like any one of these film motiffs, I think you will be disappointed.

First time ordering in store online. Took awhile to find help but once I did it was quick and easy. However when the package arrived the dvd was punctured in a couple places despite being in a cushioned package, which makes me think it was damaged prior to shipment. Considering it wasn't cheap ($25) this was disappointing.
