      Snagging Clothes

      Posted
      Dontbuywhirlpool

WHIRLPOOL BUYERS BEWARE!! This is what my brand new front loading Whirlpool Duet washing machine does to my sheets and clothes! But according to Whirlpool there is no problem with my machine since they can't figure out what's causing it to snag my clothes. They sent a service technician out to service the machine four times (he only showed up three times) and can not find out what is snagging the clothes. They will not replace the washer. They told me to file a claim with my home owners insurance to receive money for the damaged items. They tried to blame me by saying it must be the way I'm loading the clothes as if after 35 years of washing clothes I don't know how to do laundry. They suggested that I wash my clothes in laundry bags to avoid them getting snagged. Best Buy will not allow us to return the washer so I am now stuck with a dysfunctional machine and a lot of ruined clothes! Consumers like me have no recourse against Whirlpool that makes a bad product. I try to buy American but I will not be purchasing another Whirlpool product!! Ugh!!

I have had the older Duet set since 2003 and they were work horses so I bought this new set last month.. The new set look fantastic in the silver chrome. These are work horses to and built very well. The dryers you can not kill. The old washers only had 1 downfall, which was the rear bearing would eventually go bad and is a pain to replace.. I replaced the bearing on the old set and got a few more years out of it.. Hopefully being a direct drive, this problem is not an issue anymore.. These are high quality, low soap and water usage units.. if you have never used a side mount washer, you only use a small amount of detergent. I only fill up half the small detergent bin in the washer unit at most which is about a quarter to a 5th of what a standard washer uses.. If you use to much, it suds up and will leave a musty smell. less is more in these units!! Nothing washes and cleans like a side mount! You are getting high quality, long life use when you buy these so treat yourself> you will be glad you did.. I have whirlpool everything in my house just because they have been so darn reliable..

Do not buy this if you need a quiet unit

This is not the Whirlpool of old. Replaced twelve year old Duets with this machine and matching dryer. They were worn out but quieter. Looks nice - washes and spins in balance okay BUT.... When filling with water, you can hear it 5 rooms away, sounds like a fire hose. When spinning, direct drive transmission sounds like a jet engine winding up. Almost worse when winding down from spin cycle, there is an extremely high pitched whine. Cannot tell what part of the cycle is running, no indicator for that. Annoying. Front 'touch' control panel is sooooooooo sensitive simply dragging clothing over panel can change settings. This is important if you fold clothes using the top of the machine. You can however lock the panel during wash to prevent this. Matching dryer does not have a drum light. I wish someone would have warned me about the noise before I tried this out. Returned to place purchased (not Best Buy) which was a huge hassle. Then got a Samsung front loader from Best Buy, so far so good.

      Excellent Washer and Dryer Combo

My first front loading washer/dryer combo was a Whirlpool Duet purchased back in Oct of 2005. The washer just broke down last week when the shock absorbers and bearing quit. The dryer was still working. We've decided to buy another set, after all 12 plus years of service is not bad for a front loading washer. BTW, only 2 problems surfaced during those times, a tear on the rubber bellows (due to overloading causing a sock to rub) on it's 8th year and a leaking pump discharge gasket on it's 11th year. Personally, I don't think you can go wrong with either Maytag and Kenmore either since they come from the same factory. We just stuck with Whirlpool and these models due to the right amount of features and pricing. Salesperson (Dion) at Chesapeake branch was excellent all the way including the Geek Squad appliance delivery team of John and Brad.

This washer has a ton of space and options available. We mainly use the "Cold" wash cycle as we never washed in warm water as the "Normal" cycle defaults to. Now the gripes. It does not have a door to access the drain pump filter. It is a major undertaking if you need to clean the filter. There is always some water left in the detergent drawer after each cycle as well as inside the casket around the door. I have doubled checked to make sure it is level so that is not the issue. In the future I would not buy a washer that did not have an access door for the drain pump filter, somehow I missed that this one did not have it.

Have had my W/D set for about two months now and it is perfect. The volume of laundry it can handle is excellent, was concerned a HE W/D would only handle smaller loads but these babies can easily handle a load of 15 towels plus a dozen hand towels and wash cloths. They are quiet compared other washers and driers for the majority of their cycle. The washer does make a noise like a tiny jet engine when it is finishing a cycle (it is spinning unbelievably fast to wring out every bit of water it can!) which is understandable and only lasts a couple minuets or so. The dryer is 100% dead quiet though, I never hear that running. TL;DR Excellent product, quiet for a washer dryer, would buy again.

Got this Whirlpool washer to replace an 8 year old Samsung that just all of a sudden broke. I know any repair to the Samsung was gonna take at least a month due to parts so went with a USA brand this time. This Whirlpool is fantastic, can use the high speed spin on this unlike the garbage Samsung could only use medium cause it would shake like 2 pit bulls fighting. The Whirlpool is much more quiet as well, even washed a large mink blanket in it (gets heavy when wet) and it washed and spun it just as quietly as if I had a hand towel only in there. I'm tempted to replace the dryer now too even though it still works fine.

This will be my second washer in recent days; first purchase was a Made in USA top-loader, disappointed because of the following: lint left on clothing, in addition to having wrinkled clothing in the process! never an issue with front-loaders due to its ability to have wrinkle release. Don't realize a good thing once you have it in hand. SO, after five loads, promptly went back to Best Buy, and without any hassling from their staff, transition was smooth in exchanging one product out for a second. OUT with the top-loader, and BACK with another Made in USA front loader washing machine. So far, outside of unit being a bit noisy, everything has been great!
