Downsized from house to an apartment that had been newly renovated and smelled strongly of new carpet, paint and a fine white powder, probably from the newly sprayed popcorn ceiling, that settled on all surfaces. Since this was winter in Minnesota and we could not have the windows open, I had purchased two other name brand air purifiers (not from Best Buy) that turned out to be so noisy at every setting and did not seem to be making much difference in air quality. After a lot of research, I purchased these two units, one for the bedroom and one for the living room. I set both at Auto, Plasmawave and within hours, the air seemed fresher and within a couple of days, we no longer had the heavy, vaguely unpleasant smell each time we came in from outside and the fine white powder had decreased significantly. Last Saturday we returned from a one week vacation to a warm but not stuffy smellly apartment.
These units are so quiet that I totally forget they are there and am only aware of them when the fan speed increases automatically after I have been cooking or using a strong smelling cleaning solution. Even then, it is not loud and just sounds like a light rush of air even on high. One other very nice feature is that it measures the ambient light in the room and the air quality light automatically turns off and the unit goes into sleep mode. This is very important to me since I like a very dark bedroom.
