Fogerty adds life to some old tunes

John Fogerty tries to stretch some new life out of classic songs that were in their prime when first recorded with CCR. While some of the tunes lend themselves to some nice touches with the hard edge of the Foo Fighters on or Bob Seger on Who'll Stop the Rain, the album starts to lose some edge when the touches of the additional artists start to become fancy covers with little stretch on the other songs. The most creative endeavor with Proud Mary is a novel approach, but loses some of the original fire of the angst of the original cuts by CCR and Ike and Tina that I remember growing up and what turned me onto the song. Fogerty has put together some great songs for his friends, but his friends needed to be able to play a little more. Cover albums always run into the danger of trying to find the balance of respecting the original artist and song and being a tad "too creative" and losing the meaning and feeling of the original song. This album is a nice piece of nostalgia that needs a little "bam" to make it a little more appetizing. It fills you up like a buffet line but is missing the spices.

These are of course recognizable tunes, what an earlier generation would call chestnuts, from the early 70s. But with Foo Fighters, My Morning Jacket, Bob Seger and of course Fogerty at the helm, they're a rocket ship, still vibrant and exciting. In terms of a new rock and roll album, this is probably the best listen my ears have had so far this year.

I love John Fogerty. One of America's true gems. A gift to the world of music. This was just not that great of an idea. It looks and feels like a "cash Grab" . There is nothing that stands out as an OMG moment. The title track is probably the best track (performance). It is good.. it is just not great and not up to the standards of this American Icon

Fogarty makes an amazing album. He sings a lot of Credence songs with guest artists. Highlite is the song "Wrote A Song For Everyone" with Miranda Lambert sharing vocals and an amazing guitar solo from Tom Morello. The new stuff is also killer. I liked this album so much I bought a ticket for his concert at Hard Rock in October.

John Fogarty has been breaking the limits of what one can do musically for decades. He can sound country, folk, blues, or hard blistering rock in just about anything, sometimes at the same time. His mastery of guitar is just amazing. "Mystic Highway" is worth buying the CD on its own. I love this collection.

Who wouldn't want to record with John Fogerty using his best songs. Keith Urban, Zac Brown Band, Kid Rock, Bob Seger, Brad Paisley and more lend an up to date rendition toJjohn and his songs. Listened to it twice before I ejected the CD. Old songs are now new songs to a new generation.

Very good selection of classic John Fogerty songs. The younger bands, and vintage Bob Seger, lend great voices to John's lyrics. He has control over the recording sessions, and it shows in how professional the music sounds. A great addition to any John Fogerty collection.

These songs are all Creedence Clearwater Revival of John Fogerty solo classics! Having duets with contemporary artists/fans breaths fresh air into familiar songs (if you were around tin the 60s/70s or listen to classic rock radio). Enjoy!
