Quick install, clean look!
|Posted .Let's start by saying that I own rental properties, and all of them have electronic door locks. I find it easier to provide my tenants PINs versus KEYS - and I erase all PINs and provide the tenants new ones every 3-6 months, or whenever I feel like too many people know what the PINs are. Very convenient indeed! That said - this Yale Real Living WiFi Touch lock installed easily in about 15 minutes and it took me another 15 min to program it the way I want. If you've ever installed a deadbolt - this is a snap. They even have a 3D tutorial you can watch on your phone! The lock comes with an August module gets inserted into the lock that connects to the August WiFi receiver - this is how the August app communicates with the lock. I kinda that that was a bit hokey - but seems to be working well thus far. In addition, the lock comes with a Door sensor that when installed can tell if your door is open or closed - informing the lock to not extend the deadbolt while the door is open. I haven't installed the DoorSense sensor yet as I need to make some modifications to the door/jamb do to my specific setup. Overall - there are quite a few features available within the August App - like auto unlock when you come home and auto lock based on a timer, etc. Since it's an app - August can add more features over time and the lock should be able to handle them! The keypad is slick too. The numbers light up upon touch the face of the keypad - and are easy to read in the night or daylight. Overall - impressed thus far! If you're looking for a smart lock for your home, cabin, rental property, garage, etc - this Yale Real Living lock is simple to setup and flexible to use!

Terrific
||Posted .Owned for 1 week when reviewed.I purchased two of these locks for the front and side doors of an elderly family member at a different location. The system informs me when the door is locked, unclocked, open, closed, or left ajar. I can give different codes to healthcare workers and other family members. Fairly easy to install.

Where has this been all my life?!?
|Posted .There are plenty of locks with keypads out in the market but this Yale lock takes it 10 steps further. Pros: • Clean interface • Super easy install • Comes with everything needed to install Cons: • Door sensing sensor requires drilling (for cleaner look) • A bit pricey The clean interface is what first drew me to this lock. The number pad is hidden and only appears with lit numbers behind a black glass display. Install was super easy and can easily be done in less than 30 minutes if your door already had a deadbolt installed. The install instructions were robust and the phone app does a guided install. Why this lock stands out from the rest is the “smartness” that August powered locks can offer. It comes with the “brains” chip that goes into the lock and a wifi bridge so you can access your lock from your phone app anywhere in the world. The ability to use the August app to lock and unlock your lock is amazing. I can always check the app to see if the door is ajar or unlocked. Other noteworthy features from the August app is the ability to set auto lock times. I can set it to lock within 2 minutes. Perfect if I was just running out the door and knowing that it will lock automatically. Another great feature is to set different passcodes for your family members and see via push messages on who unlocked the lock, etc. A recent feature I utilized was using google home to unlock the lock with my voice. I was expecting company over but they rang the doorbell right when I was washing my hands. A simple “Hey Google, unlock the front door” and telling google my passcode, the door was magically unlocked via voice. I highly recommend this lock to anyone looking to have a keyless experience and the ability to add it to their connected smart home. What stand this lock apart from others are the trusted guts of a Yale but the brains of August to execute. Love this lock!

Monitor door locks from anywhere
|Posted .This new Yale touch pad lock with the August connection is replacing an older key pad lock I had. The Yale had so many more features that make it a winner. Setup is straight forward and easy using the IPhone app to guide you through the process. The instillation of the lock itself is similar to any other manual dead bolt lock. The difference is when adding the August included module and the August WiFi bridge which are the brains of the locks operation. There is also a module that alerts you to doors that are left ajar. Once setup the lock is very easy to use and has a voice assistant that announces the operations that have taken place. The app shows the actions or who's coming and going by the each individual pass code that have been setup. You can also use Alexa to lock and unlock the lock. This is a good addition to any automated home.

Confidence + Convenience + Connected
|Posted .Yale Assure Lock Touchscreen, Connected by August: My door lock has to master certain things perfectly: give me confidence that it’s as least as strong as the door and that it will work reliably. Of course, it would be really nice if I could get some convenience features layered on top of the locking thing. And, because the techie, geeky side of me likes to be connected from everywhere and anywhere, adding long distance interactivity with my door entry is icing on the cake. This Yale Assure Lock is a near perfect match for my list of expectations. Install, Setup and Control of my door is managed from the August APP. Digital keypad uses a code we set. Temporary (virtual keys) or permanent guest/family codes are easily set. There’s Auto-Unlock (requires Bluetooth link). DoorSense (let’s me know if the door is ajar). Can be linked to all major voice assistants. Unlock/lock and monitoring control from wherever my wife and I are located. The August App keep a record of all entry activity. And there is just a good old fashioned KEY (x2), if a family member prefers that. SETUP: It’s a Yale Door Lock, before all else. Yale got this part down and provides great instructions. It fits where your previous lock was and probably requires no modification. (My door jamb and strike plate was too snug and was binding for my current lock set, so I made sure I cleaned that up with my rotary tool.) The new lock needs a clean path for the bolt. I’m using my existing high security jamb plates and lock shields which fit perfectly fine. The lock was physically installed within minutes. Screwdriver only. Very sleek, modern, and attractive. It matches our Schlage (model Addison: Satin Nickle) handset, but several other brands/models will work, too. After the install, it all looks great. We’ve added value to our home. The various features of the Yale could be viewed in layers. We completed the first layer, physical security, by installing this premiere door lock. There are two traditional keys and an inside deadbolt knob. You need nothing else to secure and unlock the door. But, then we’d be missing out on the fun stuff. AFTER SETTING your Master PIN Code, it’s time to rely on the AUGUST APP to guide you through the digital and online layers of features. EVERYTHING is fully described, STEP-by-STEP, so the process seems especially easy. (I’m not sure why the YALE Assure APP is referenced at all, because it can start the process but will leave you confused. It has no instructions for installing the lock onto Wi-Fi or the AUGUST features.) Use the August App. SUMMARY: Combining a very high quality lock with premiere connectivity software is a great solution for families looking for door security. This Yale Assure Lock Touchscreen is all about confidence and reliability, first, and then it adds a set of features we’re deploying as we need them. We don’t even have to pull out the instructions, because the App has all feature control and explanations readily available on our phones. Easy to recommend.

Innovative and Elegant
|Posted .THE BREAKDOWN: This product is another line of the ever growing WiFi/Bluetooth wireless door locks. All my testing was done with an iOS device/devices. The packaging was very well done. It was just enough packaging to get the product delivered. In the box was everything needed to get this product up and running. The installation took me about 15 min for the hardware. This is a very simple task for anyone who has changed a deadbolt before. Once the actual hardware was installed I downloaded the app and begin to set up the lock using the app. I like to think of myself as a tech person ( as I am a developer by trade) but I had some issues after creating master PIN. I could not get the lock to calibrate. I called tech support and they walked me through some steps and had to escalate my issue. I finally got the issue resolved on the third call to tech support. After a few factory resets and removing the module a few times the lock is finally working as intended. The lock itself is very well made. I love the feel and heft of it as it makes you feel like it is very secure. One more thing that I really liked was the backing was actual rubber not plastic giving the lock just another level of polish. One feature about the lock that worries me is the screen where you put your PIN in is made of what appears to be glass and I found a few smudges on there after a few days of use. This could potentially be a security risk. I just try and wipe if off when I remember. One thing that I haven’t gotten to work yet is actually using the Home Kit on my iOS device. I have tried several times but it cannot find it for some reason. PRO’s: -Very well built and stylish -Super easy hardware installation -Lots of customizable features -Has an actual key as a backup -August app keeps track of activity -Can be used and monitored remotely -Can issue temporary PIN numbers -Auto lock feature -Uses DoorSense to let you know if the door is ajar CON’s: -I had trouble with the application setup -Apple Home kit still isn’t working for me SUMMARY: Overall, I feel that this product is not only elegant but gives confidence and reliability. It is packed with customizable features that gives a homeowner many possibilities. I would definitely recommend this to a friend.

Q: QuestionDoes this lock work with Apple HomeKit or doi need to use the specific app for the lock
Asked by Sheila.
- A:Answer You can easily add it to HomeKit during installation but you do need the August app for initial setup. HomeKit only lets you know wether the door is locked or unlocked. The August app allows you to set PIN numbers for guests or family and also gives you a timeline of when the door was opened, HomeKit does not.

Q: Questiondoes this product come with expert installation!
Asked by Anonymous.
- A:Answer I'm sure you can get Geek Squad to install this. If you already have a deadbolt, install and setup is grade school simple. Remove a couple screws, place new one, tighten two screws. The unit talks you through electronic setup. There is an 800 number for questions.

Q: QuestionHi. Will these work if there's a power outage? I know they have battery backup, but does it need to connect to wifi, which would be impacted by a blackout? thanks!
Asked by Quokka.
- A:Answer Yes mine does work during a blackout. The lock gets it’s power from batteries so I keep extra batteries on hand. The lock gives you warnings to replace the batteries in plenty time to keep from getting locked out. I love my lock. It gives me peace of mind since I do not have to mess with keys. Also, it can work off the internet from your phone if necessary.
