A: Greeting! I'm not familiar with the Sony HTCT290. I'm actually not a big home theater guy. Mostly into high fidelity STEREO equipment. However, I just recently purchased a new 4K Sony TV and wanted improved sound. I had read some very positive reviews on the Yamaha and liked the fact that it did not have a separate sub included with it. I've been very happy with my purchase. For its size and cost the sound is excellent. I have it connected to my new TV via an ARC HDMI connection and, as a result, it turns on & off with the TV and also responds to the TV volume remote. Very cool. It also has an app that can be dowloaded from the Sony website that adds some features not included with the remote control. My only minor quibble is that I was able to connect my iPad (with the app) to the soundbar via Bluetooth, but not my iPhone for some reason... Still working on that one. In any case, I'd highly recommend this product for what it advertises to be. All the best.
