Q: Back lit caller ID /Batteries needed?
A: THIS PHONE IS NOT BACK-LIT! It does use batteries to power the caller-id panel. Which you can only see if you turn on the lights! And the print is tiny! You need the Hubble to read this thing even if you got the sun in your bedroom. It does not need a power adapter. This is Old School technology. All land line phones get their power directly from the copper cable that connects to the phone and this cable also carries the phone signal (gives you a dial-tone). That is why I bought this thing. For security. If the power grid ever crashes I would still have a way to dial 911. **cordless phones_no power from wall means phone can not generate and send a signal to your wireless handset** Hope this helps.
Q: Can you hang this on a wall?
A: Looks like you can from the back. There's a hole to hang on a nail, and looks like you can pop out a piece to make the handset hold onto the front, but it didn't pop out easy to test. I didn't want to break it to see if it would work.
A: The cord that is provided is 12' but you can very easily attach a longer handset cord.
Q: Does the AT&T TR1909B work on VOIP?
A: No. This is an analog phone that connects directly to the phone jack. It's good to have one of this in the house because when the power is out, VOIP and digital phones don't work.
A: No batteries needed
A: Yes, you can plug a longer cord into the back of the phone. However, it does need to fit through the little opening under the base for the phone to sit flat. It comes with a 2 conductor cord.
Q: Is the ringer volume adjustable?
A: Yes, it has off, low and high.
Q: Does this phone work with a provider other than at&t?
A: Yes, it works with any provider. AT&T is just the make of the phone, not the provider.

We live on an island that can easily be cut off from the world by weather. We wanted a landline phone, and this model was affordable. It's a sleek design for a corded phone. Works well & could be a lifesaver someday.
