Built to similar proportions as the flagship 801 D4, the 802 D4 offers much of the performance of its larger sibling, including the same Turbine Head enclosure for its midrange drive unit, yet is a more affordable design overall. Perfect for reference-grade stereo listening and an excellent choice in home theatre applications. 802 D4 steps up from 803 D4 by increasing the size of the midrange and bass drive units. The main cabinet and Turbine Head are increased in size to support the larger drive units. The Turbine Head is a carefully designed and tuned aluminium enclosure that houses the midrange driver. This inert structure avoids unwanted resonances and is decoupled from both the bass enclosure and the tweeter body. Cabinet stiffness has been increased with an Aluminium Plate that reinforces the top of the cabinet. Midrange performance has been dramatically improved with a new Biomemetic Suspension that replaces a conventional fabric spider with a groundbreaking innovation that reduces distortion behind the drive unit. The Solid Body Tweeter enclosure has been elongated, increasing air volume behind the diamond tweeter which improves the openness in high frequencies. The top section’s aluminium top-plate is covered in Leather by Connolly trim. We use luxurious, full-grain black leather for Gloss Black and Satin Rosenut finishes, and a light grey leather for White and Satin Walnut. • Aerofoil Bass: Advanced computer modeling carbon fiber and a syntactic core are used to produce a cone with maximum stiffness where it’s needed most. This optimised shape means the cone displays pistonic behaviour further up the audible range, producing precise, controlled and utterly lifelike bass.
• Reverse Wrap Cabinet: The front and sides of the cabinet are formed in one continuous curve, held together with a spine of solid aluminium. The curved front means less baffling around the drive units so you'll enjoy greater dispersion and less cabinet reflection for a more holographic sound.
• Aluminium top-plate: The all-new aluminium top section significantly upgrades the mechanical stiffness of the cabinet for reduced resonance and greater clarity.
