Q: will this work with an old dell desktop or strictly for gaming mother boards?
A: It will certainly work, but most likely at the frequency which the motherboard is set to run. if the board caps it for example at 2133MHz then you better get a 2666MHz memory kit that features a CAS latency of 14 or maybe CL15 for 2666MHz.
