Q: what additional gizmos are needed? modum? hdmi cable?
A: The television includes Wi-Fi, so that part is built-in. To connect, however, you need a wireless network in your house with Internet service and a modem. HDMI cables are required for connecting other devices, like Cable/Sat boxes, game consoles and Blu-Ray players to your television. If you want to use it as a monitor with your computer, your computer must have an HDMI output, and support 1080 or 720 resolution. Thanks for your interest in Samsung products. --Mr. S
Q: Can you use this as a regular tv, to watch regular channels and cable channels?
A: This is a regular tv with added features. If you don't want to use the added features it still works. I am using mine with a outdoor antenna and it works just fine.

Q: If I ditch cable do I need a Roku box?
A: With this TV, you don't need a ROKU box to watch Netflix and some other apps. Having a ROKU box, there are a lot more choices with ROKU, but then I haven't fully researched the options that Samsung has on their Smart TV, other than Netflix.
Q: can this tv be mounted on the wall?
A: yes I understand a separate wall mount kit can be purchased to mount it on the wall

A: Own Vizio and Samsung tvs. Apps on Samsung tvs are more user friendly.

A: YES, THE SAMSUNG 28" HD SMART TV HAS A WEB BROWSER. SONY AND SAMSUNG HAVE WEB BROWSERS. VIZIO DOES NOT. A CUSTOMER IN THE STORE WAS ABLE TO INFORM ME OF SUCH, AND MADE THE DIFFERENCE, WHICH IS WHY I BOUGHT THE SAMSUNG OVER ANY OTHER. GOOD LUCK WITH IT. AND, I RECOMMEND GETTING A WIRELESS KEYBOARD - $24.99 AT BEST BUY - OR ON AMAZON - WALMART, ETC...WILL WORK JUST FINE, TO EASE THE USE OF THE INTERNET BROWSER FEATURES. BEST WISHES!
