Do both phones need to be plugged into a phone jack?

How can I fix my caller I'd. When I received calls from area code 215 it disappears. 10 digits show ,but if I want to call back that number with the 215 area code it's not their. I have to manually put 215 plus the other 7 numbers to make a call.

If you are required to dial 10 digits or with the area code, delete the area code programmed on your telephone. Here's the complete instructions on how to delete: Step 1: Press MENU when the phone is not in use. Step 2: Press ▲ or ▼ to choose Settings, and then press SELECT. Step 3: Press ▲ or ▼ to choose Home area code, and then press SELECT. Press DELETE on the handset or X/DELETE on the telephone to delete a digit or press and hold DELETE on the handset to delete all digits. Step 4: Press SELECT to save your selection.
