tl;dr it’s fancy and far better than a traditional lock, but the batteries hardly last 2 months (Duracell Optimum), the fingerprint reader is too finicky, and the lock status is incorrect too often (locked v unlocked). After months of research and video reviews, I finally decided on a smart lock. This thing is nice, y’all. High quality construction, easy to install all the components, and the app walks you through all the steps. I got the Bluetooth connected right away, easy enough to pair with my WiFi, and went through the slightly lengthy fingerprint setup. The three users in my house with registered fingerprints have never been able to get it to unlock with prints. This lock has some great features like auto-lock after a set time, auto-unlock at set times, Bluetooth proximity unlock, WiFi control from anywhere, guest access, and more. Feature packed! Calibrating the lock wasn’t too bad, but you have to follow all the instructions and know how the door lines up and such. Nbd. After a month it started to get wonky. I would come home, the app would notify me it was unlocking the door based on the set geofence and Bluetooth proximity, but nothing happened with the lock. Checked the app, it says “unlocked.” Checked the door, still firmly locked. Had to “lock” and the unlock the door via the app to get in. That was 4 out of 7 days a week. Fingerprint never would read properly. PIN worked fine, but why pay $300 for a lock that generally only works with the PIN or the Bluetooth connection? Came home one day after 2 months of regular, daily use and the door wouldn’t unlock. Instead, it responded with a red settings cog wheel and sounded like R2-D2 crying. Checked the app, no connection. Used the physical key to get in; dead batteries. 4 Duracell Optimum AA’s dead, that’s $10+ worth of batteries. 6 times a year (2-month lifespan) is $60 in batteries a year on top of the $300 for the lock itself. Is the convenience worth that cost? It also would have been nice to know the batteries were dying. I have push notifications and email alerts setup. I get the notifications that the door was left open, or the deadbolt didn’t fully extend (though that scenario only occurred once), but got NOTHING regarding the battery status. Fail. So it really is a nice, well-made lock and all. But, I do feel like I could have gone with a competitor’s brand, spent less, and still gotten a good smart lock. You can’t win ‘em all I guess.
Life changing purchase. I can have friends and family come check on my house and pets when I am not home. It also allows me a quicker/easier way to enter my home. During the install, make sure the deadbolt is able open and close without any friction. My lock was losing battery quick until I realized it was utilizing more battery due the door frame pressing up on the deadbolt. Great product. I took off a star because I had to recalibrate it once due to unknown reasons.
