Outstanding Rhythm Game, Despite Missing Features

On the whole, this is one of the best games I've played in 2009 and is quite possibly the finest rhythm game I've ever played, period. While the incredible immersion afforded by the drum set in Rock Band (and subsequently GH World Tour) was extremely exciting, it still comes up short when compared to DJ Hero. I can't stress that fact enough; DJ Hero will take you there and make you "feel it" in a way that no other rhythm game can. While other music-performance games do a fantastic job of making you -part- of the music, DJ Hero goes the extra step and places you at the very center of the action. The music is there, but you're channeling it for the screaming crowds. Someone else has already made the individual songs, now it's up to you, the DJ Hero, to mix and mash to the exuberant delight of your screaming fans. To make this experience even more exciting, the game lends its track list from some of the finest artists and, perhaps more importantly, the most skilled DJs in all of music. Here, though, the game also falls short. Many of the mixes contain the same songs, simply mixed differently and juxtaposed with a different song. While this isn't an enormous flaw, it does get old when playing marathon sessions where you crave something fresh.
The hardware for this game is equally as impressive. While at first glance it may appear somewhere on a spectrum between comical and awkward, the final result is fantastic. The set is sturdy and well balanced and the action of "scratching" the vinyl is fluid and seemingly realistic. The only complaint, and again it's a small one, is the position of the fader relative to the effects dial. It is fairly easy, even if you're used to the set up, to accidentally move the fader as you reach for the dial mid-track, destroying a mulitplier and wrecking your rhythm.
The final complaint, and this is my largest by far, is the lack of some very obvious mode selections. Firstly, there is no way to simply pick a single track and play. You must, for some strange reason, create a quickplay or custom mix set in order to play even a single track. Secondly, there is no practice mode, which other rhythm games have always featured, whereby the player could slow down an especially confusing section of the song and figure out the movements of the piece before moving back to full speed. These both seem like glaringly obvious omissions to me.
However; do not, I repeat, do not allow these small flaws to detract you from purchasing this game, especially if you're a fan of other rhythm games. If you've been on the fence, jump off and go straight to pick up this phenomenal game.

I just want to say a quick thing about this game. Its mega mega mega fun. Alot of people have been questioning the success of this game. The game and system are perfect and exceeded my expectations. Its a hit. However it appeals to a niche market. Older people, I'm 34, who grew up with the B-Boy invasion will love this. Its very aggressive with its mixing. Its not some soft Puff Daddy remix. THis is hardcore cutting and scratching. For me its a dream come true. Please give this game a shot. Have an open mind and enjoy.

We are big fans of Guitar Hero and Rock Band so naturally, we would be attracted to DJ Hero. We like playing this game on family night and it has music for everyone; the surround sound adds to the entire affect.
We always have to remind each other to pass the “turn tables" in order to take over the party. Overall, it is a fun game; however, the controls can be quite cumbersome for the beginner (a lot is going on).
The background dancers are funny!
It is a fun game.

DJ Hero Has great mixes. They get you hype while your playing. The game isn't easy to play, which makes you wanna keep playing. When guitar hero came out i wasn't excited. I'm excited to buy that game. I recommend everyone get it. Watch, soon eveeryone will wanna be a DJ.

I think this game was a great idea, it gives those who want to try out a act like a DJ a good experience. Of course this is nothing compare to the real thing but it gets a bit close. I am not sure why someone would give durability a low score unless you cannot take care of your things. Unlike myself durability is good. Now I must say when I did try this game it is hard to get use to doing it correctly but I guess once you play it enough you will get good at it. Also I love the music I'm sorry but I got tired of the rock music so cannot wait to buy this.

Turn Up the Music, DJ!

DJ Hero has become an instant classic because of its catchy music mash-ups. We've all heard songs from Queen, Daft Punk, Eminem, Rick James, Marvin Gaye, 50 Cent, Gwen Stefani, Jay-Z, Kid Cudi, the Black Eyed Peas, Rihanna, the Beastie Boys, Tears for Fears, etc.
Now, try combining together two songs from any of those artists. At first, you'd probably think, "Wait...that just wouldn't sound good..."
And then DJ Hero just blasts you away with their creativity! The game is just fun to play! You won't be ashamed to play any of these songs at a club or party.
The game can be VERY challenging especially with the spikes (you quickly have to move the crossfader in one direction and then back to the center which can happen in one quick beat, but this depends on the difficulty setting). Personally, I think that the expert level on this game is way harder compared to the expert level on any Guitar Hero game from the series.
The turntable is great. The buttons are pretty solid, and the rotation is very smooth. The crossfader is also very smooth, but the plastic it's made out of feels cheap. Overall, the turntable has a good feel to it. It can be used by both left-handed and right-handed players.
*The only reason I give the "Value for Price" rating a 5/5 is because I got it on sale when it was $39.99 - both the game and the turntable at that price was a great deal!

The game is surprisingly great. Tons of fun. One of the best and most fun tracklists of any music game. Turntable is put together very well. Feels durable. Learning how to use the controller takes time, but it's a very smooth transition from easy to medium to hard difficulties etc...

I was impressed at the variety of songs used in the mixes and it is a lot more fun than I expected because I'm not interested in dj-ing. This game is for everybody, not just the club scene. The graphics and design are good with different scenes/clubs to choose from. It really feels like you are mixing the songs like a dj hero.
