Great upgrade

Overall it’s great, I tossed my PC almost a decade ago, and started using a MAC. I use one at work and also at home. I just upgraded my 7-year-old G4 Power Mac, to this iMac. It’s fast enough to run the adobe CS4 suite (Photoshop, illustrator, in design, etc.) So you don’t have to spend the extra money to get the Mac Pro. That will save you $700, and with the iMac you get a monitor built in, so you can factor savings in there too.
The reason I went with the iMac instead of the Mac pro (G4) like I bought last time was I never upgraded anything. So I am going to see how many years I can get by with the iMac, aiming for another worry free 7 years with the easiest and most dependable computer brand out there.
Other than Mac being awesome, I can’t say much else. I have only had it for a week so if anything changes, I will post another review. Buying a Mac is something everyone should try out, once you go Mac, you don’t go back to PC. If you never used a Mac before it will take a little to get used to how things are set up, but after working on it a little you will come to find out it’s set up better than what you are used to. What used to take you 3 steps to complete on a PC only takes you one step on a Mac.
Also I saw another review (the entry level 24”) saying it only has a one-button mouse. That is incorrect; it actually has a 4-button mouse. Go to the system preference in the dock, go to keyboard and mouse (see image) then you can set up the right click function. A lot of people don’t know how to change it or that it has that function.
Enjoy.

Great Computer with a small Flaw

This is My 4th Mac (Macbook, 20" imac, Mac Pro, 24" Imac) I work in the computer industry, i have worked with windows machines for 17 years. Mac OS is so much easier to use, I will admit there was a small learning curve, but once you get over it they work so much smoother. I upgraded the RAM to 8GB which was super simple. I also upgraded to Snow Leopard which took about an hour. (recommended because of great speed enhancement) I also run Windows XP through bootcamp, and a 3rd party software program under the mac OS flawlessly. If you think Macs are more expensive, compare apples to apples, they are not any more expensive. I would suggest buying apple care or the extended warranty through BB. These machines are very tricky to open. (Remove Front Glass) I am a little disapointed with the 800/400 cable or adapter not included, they are difficult to find in a retail situation. (online everywhere) I will never own another pc. Hope this review helps.
cheers

been a pc user all my life and will stay one since by having both you get the best of all worlds. this is my first mac computer and i have to say i am absolutely blown away by the overall product. the quality of the machine and software is really amazing and i'm really not a big fan of the company and its limitations on customers. but this new line of imacs really delivers and it works. if you use a pc you'll discover some things you like more here and there and vis-versa but what i love about the imac after playing with it is that it works-it just simply works and i think a big reason for that is that everything comes from the same house and you'll notice that making a big difference. i feel like when i learn one program i learned three others where as with pc you're on your own since most is third party. my pc is obviously easier to upgrade-you won't be able to buy a new graphic card when you feel like it and just install it in the imac which has been my big turn off to apple ever since but at least these new machines come pretty juiced up and i strongly recommend you get at least the 2.93 ghz one so you'll be good for 2-3 years. i also installed x-plane 9 on mine and it worked flawlessly. the software is awesome and the outline is very customizable. the machine also looks gorgeous on the desk and i'll admit that the design and look definitely play part for me. there's no best computer but if you have a strong pc and one of these i can honestly say you'll have everything you'll ever need.

I have always been a PC user, but was so tired of crashes and lock-ups. I will never use PC again. This computer was so easy to set up and start using right away and you have the option to be able to still use windows. It runs my games smoothly and quickly. I highly recommend this product.

AFTER COUNTLESS ISSUES AND ENDLESS PROBLEMS OF OWNING A PC FOR SEVERAL YEARS, I FINALLY DITCHED THE PC THIS WEEKEND AND MOVED ON TO THE CADILLAC OF COMPUTERS, THE I MAC.
DON'T HAVE TO WORRY ABOUT THE SPY WARE, AND THE VIRUS PROBLEMS ANYMORE.
THIS COMPUTER NOT ONLY HAS THE LOOKS, PERFORMANCE, AND AWSOME GRAPHICS TO BOOT.
I HAD BEEN ON THE FENCE ABOUT PURCHASING MY I MAC FOR QUITE SOMETIME, AND YES THIS MACHINE IS A LITTLE PRICEY, BUT I CAN GUARANTEE YOU WILL NOT BE DISAPPOINTED.

Switching to a MAC

Initial setup was a breeze. Set aside time to learn the Mac system if this is your first shot at Apple! Once on and set up and you have to have your old Windows programs install VMware Fusion 2! What a program. Hard to believe you can have so much capability on one computer.

I was a mac user for many years, but bought a PC about 11 years ago because of work, etc, and haven't had a mac in my home in that long. I bought the iMac earlier this week and had it unpacked and checking my email in less than 30 minutes (most of that time was removing all the protective plastics too!). The ease of use is fantastic. Everything Mac is so streamlined for efficiency (and frankly just looks/feels cool!). All said, you can't argue the cost factor. Pound for pound, Macs are more expensive. I've heard the "you need to compare apples to apples" argument....personally, I like the auto metaphor....you want cheap, buy a Kia. You want quality, you'll pay the extra $$$ for something with some umph! Frankly, I was just tired of trying to squeeze pennies out of my Ford Focus. Metaphors are fun!
