A: Only Verizon phones come unlocked from factory so if Verizon is your carrier then yes, just change the sim card, go to settings and change the signal band and your set. Other carriers you might need to either root them or pay them off before carrier provides you with a code to unlock the phone...
A: If you already own an iPhone, perform a manual back-up, then restore the new phone from the fresh back up. All of your apps, settings, messages, etc will transfer to the new device. Did this on my wife's iPhone 5c to iPhone 7 upgrade. Took 15 minutes, and worked perfect.
