A: If you get the cellular version then you can text and call from the watch without having your phone around. You would have to add an extra plan for the watch with your carrier though which would be an extra $10/month with the first 3 months free. The GPS version you can text and call from the watch also but it would have to be connected to the iPhone with Bluetooth or WiFi and the phone would need to be close by

A: To use the cellular capabilities of an Apple Watch, you need to add it to your existing wireless account. During the initial setup of the Apple Watch, there is a step that guides you through adding the Watch to your cell phone account. On Verizon, for example, an Apple Watch shares the same phone number as your cell phone and costs an additional $10 per month. No matter which carrier you have, your phone and Watch must be on the same carrier.
