Quality1 out of 5Value3 out of 5Ease of Use3 out of 5I’ve had these astros for exactly 3 weeks and have several other headphones and headsets to compare them to. The paint on the headband is cheap and I just noticed that it has been chipping. Not a deal breaker but for this price and this early for the paint to be deteriorating is not great.

Great quality and sound, PC USERS, FOLLOW MY TIPS!
Posted .Pros mentioned:Set upCons mentioned:InstructionsGreat headset, the build quality is superb and they produce great and clear sound. Voice over mic is clear too! Install was easy on my PC. Plug the mixamp via USB, then the headset to it. It was recognized. Then, download the Astro command center FROM THE WINDOWS APP STORE (not the one from Astro's website, or you will have problems). There was a firmware update, and the I was ready to go. It comes with 4 equalizer presets, which one can modify. The volume and chat balance dials feel sturdy and made with great quality, I'm loving this setup and its helping me improve my sound positioning in Rainbow six Siege, which is vital! They were a little bit stiff out of the box, but after a 30 min gaming session, they became way comfier and no problems with my glasses. The sound quality and the surround sound is superb, as long as you follow my tips bellow, for PC users. @@@PC USERS TIPS@@@ 1-Download the Astro command center from the WINDOWS APP STORE, not from Astro's web, only the Windows app store version works ok with this gen 4 device. 2- The included Dolby audio surround on the Mixamp is only for the PS 4 (or if you output dolby digital live from your PC's sound card, in short, its only for when the mixamp is receiving audio via optical port), don't use it if you have the MIXAMP via USB!, how to bellow. 3- In order to correctly get surround sound on a PC via a USB connection, you must set the MIXAMP TO PASSTHROUGH MODE, THAT IS THE STAR ON THE FIRST BUTTON TO THE TOP. Then: Head to the Windows Settings > System > Sound > Sound Control Panel on the right hand side. Under the playback devices, right click on the ASTRO MixAmp Pro Game and select Properties. Select Spatial Sound. Change the Spatial Sound Format to either Windows Sonic for Headphones or Dolby Atmos for Headphones and enable the turn on 7.1 virtual surround sound. This is straight from the horses mouth, Astro. Unfortunately they failed to put this on their manual, but their reddit community is very active and I got this directly from an Astro rep. This is how they recommend it to be plugged in a PC via USB, otherwise if you enable the dolby audio on the mixamp all you will get is reverberation and echo but not truly positional surround sound. Also, if they wanted the above, they should have included a code for the Dolby Atmos purchase on windows, but its not that expensive, $15, but for the price of the headset, I feel a free code should have been included. I hope this helps PC users, if you follow the above, you will get great surround quality sound! PS4 users, can use the included Dolby on the mixamp, as it works fine with dolby via optical.

Amazing Heasdset. Works w/ Ps5 Get Optical Adapter
|Posted .Owned for less than 1 week when reviewed.Features
Quality5 out of 5Value5 out of 5Ease of Use5 out of 5Pros mentioned:Design, Set upIncredible Sound & Quality! The A40 with MixAmp Pro is truly amazing and since I wanted to reaming with the best expirience possible I got the Optical adapter made my Best Buy Insignia which works great! Since the astro Optical adapter was sold out I couldnt wait and got the insignia adapter which does not come with an extra HDMI cord like the Astro one does. You will need to HDMI cords as one goes from the playstation into front of adapter and the second HDMI goes into back of adapter then to your tv. I have an extra 2.0 HDMI cords and after hook up everything sounds grest. Keep in mind if you have the newest 2.1 HDMI tv’s then these current adapters would not work properly for the best expiroence and hopfully Astro makes a 2.1 adapter so everyone old and new can enjoy amazing headset with Optical! Microsoft and Sony really should have left the optical port on their next gen consoles and that was a bad decision on both of them! Thank goodness this adapter is made because the optical set up along with the Mix Amp Pro makes gaming an even better experience! They are very durable, the quality is great and I reccommend always keeping headsets stored in a headset case for a longer lifespan. Hanging them in a room on a headset stand will shorten the life. Storing them in a case keeps it from invisible dust and humidity that can shorten the life over time.. Your headset will last longer keeping them in something like the Astro Headset carrying case. I know you might want to display the elegant look of them but keeping them in a case keeps them in better shape as the human eye cant see all the wear and tear always. I love the design of the Astro 40’s/50’s and the reason they hold around the same retail value for so many years is their disign was ahead of its time! Its that good from aesthetics to quality you cant go wrong with this headset! Now, with all mass produced items their will be some odd cases where someone gets a defective headset, but keep in mind no matter how high end the item somewhere down the production run will have defects! Every product has a defect rate so if you ever get a bad one with any electronic dont judge thinking like its a bad product since you were unlikely that time getting a defect. It happens and things like that can be resolved fast with the store. Its also. Some consumers think they tale care of their things when they really take care of them poorly. So, when someone trashes an item for not working or breaking I would suggest not just listening to them but what the majority is saying. When you pick up this headset you can feel the Quality and craftsmanship that goes into an a40 headset as well as the Mix Amp Pro feels like good quality with a nice soft bottom to the touch. I have the a40 Halo edition for Xbox with Mix amp Pro TR & the a40 for Ps4/Ps5 With Mix Amp Pro and... Both headsets I got the optical adapter and now my a40’s are sounding great on next gen consoles!

For serious gamers/content creators but PC = 'meh'
Posted .Pros mentioned:Design, Features, PricePROs: - Excellent build quality; though the headphones feature predominantly plastic construction they still manage to feel incredibly solid and reassuring on the head--the newly redesigned Gen 4 MixAmp Pro TR feels about as heavy and solid as a block of metal - Some truly inspired elements of usability and interface design: -- Metal earcup sliders feature hash marks to take the guess-work out of re-sizing the cans to your head after an adjustment, storage, or cleaning -- New mute slider control on the redesigned headphone cable features a slider switch and visible red mark to indicate it's engaged--not only does the switch stay in place so the mic stays muted when you activate the control (unlike last year's momentary push-button interrupt control), but the LEDs on the volume and MixAmp dials turn red -- Helpful but unobtrusive LEDs indicate whether the MixAmp is in PC or PS4 mode, which of four onboard EQ profiles is activated (which can be switched on the fly with a push of a button), and whether Dolby processing or pass-through is enabled (marked with a lighted Dolby Headphone logo vs the Astro "star" icon) - Giant volume dial oozes with premium feel and movement (reminds me of the giant volume dial on the ultra high-end Astell & Kern ACRO L1000 headphone amp); smooth analog pot turns reassuringly through 180 degrees left to right--the definitive rotary stops stops at 270 and 90 degrees give you lots of room for fine volume adjustment without feeling like you have to turn the dial FOREVER to go from 0 to 100% - The Mixamp dial features similar premium-feeling movement but a helpful detent right at the 12 o'clock position to let you know when you've got a perfect 50/50 mix of voice and game audio - I was surprised at how good the A40 TRs actually SOUNDED--with a multitude of presets and customizations possible with the Astro Command Center's 5-band EQ, I ultimately found a very pleasing setting for gaming and was even MORE surprised at how well they work with music and movies; the bass especially was visceral and almost hefty without feeling sloppy or muddy; mids and highs seemed clear without being sparkly, sibilant or harsh - Surround rendering was incredibly convincing with continuous panning and depth cues easily discernible - Clearly designed with the competitive, serious, or e-sports gamers and content creators in mind: -- MixAmp Pro TR supports daisy chaining to other MixAmps to allow private, 100% lag-free local chat with other MixAmp users without having to go through a chat/game server -- Mic profiles allow you to adjust mic input level (obviously), but also tailor noise gate performance to suit the environment (quiet studio, noisy tournament, etc.) and adjust the side tone to tweak how much of your own voice you'll hear over the headset -- Astro Command Center gives simple, intuitive slider adjustments to allow customization of mix levels for game audio, chat audio, microphone, and even AUX signals into a single analog-out "Stream" signal - Sport mesh earpads and headband cushions don't retain heat so they can support long-term gaming sessions without getting sweaty - These are Astro A40s after all--deep physical customization options allow you to change up styling cues with themed and custom eartags (which handily are held in place by magnets rather than dodgy snaps and catches) and mod kits that convert these cans from semi-open to closed-backed with leatherette ear pad materials, leatherette headband padding, and an even better noise-cancelling microphone - Speaking of the eartags, imagine my surprise to find that when you remove them, there's a mic port on the backside of BOTH drivers...this allows you to configure the A40s so that you can wear the microphone on either side of the headset! CONs: - Slightly confusing setup on Windows--ultimately you're directed to download the Astro Command Center from the Windows Store even if you've downloaded the original package from Astro's website - Portability takes a blow to the face here--you're given no case or even silken bag to carry the A40s; but even if you do buy a case for the headphones, you still have to cart around the MixAmp Pro TR (doesn't have a carrying case/kit even on Astro's website) which is now even bigger, bulkier and heavier and than previous years' more vertically oriented models--oh, and a headphone cable...and a USB cable...and an optical cable for the PS4...and maybe a daisy chain cable to connect with friends--eventually your desktop or tabletop will look like a bag of snakes unfurling from the MixAmp which, due to the resident volume and preset control buttons, is clearly designed to be sitting within arm's reach; if you game from a couch or easy chair a ways back from your TV or console/PC, that bag of snakes is going to be following you across the room - Don't be fooled--Dolby Headphone processing only works natively (via the Dolby Headphone button) on the PS4--you are NOT getting a hardware Dolby Headphone surround solution, or even one vested in the Astro Command Center, if you're a PC gamer. This is a DEFINITE let-down for those of you picking up this unit for its apparent cross-platform surround capabilities because this limitation isn't really made clear in the manual or via Astro's marketing materials. To enjoy surround on a PC, you have to keep the MixAmp in bypass mode and activate Window's own Sonic Spatial enhancements, or spend additional money in the App Store for Dolby Atmos provisioned via the Dolby Access app, or a DTS-based solution via DTS's forthcoming DTS Sound Unbound app - Speaking of the MixAmp--as a USB sound card, it's pretty...just okay. Windows only sees it as a stereo soundcard and it appears to be locked at 16 bit/48 kHz sampling (DVD quality) which means no hi-rez audio capability. While I understand the SQ takes it up a notch from previous MixAmp models--and don't get me wrong, the A40s do SOUND good when driven by the MixAmp--don't think you're getting a top-shelf DAC (digital-to-analog converter) in the MixAmp Pro TR - Though the microphone was swappable for either side, the same cannot be said of the cable port--granted, there are more people who mouse with their right hands than their left (I'm one of them), but I'm willing to bet there are some lefties out there who would appreciate having the headphone cable snake out from the other side of their HPs...just a thought for the good people at Astro who clearly put a lot of time and thought into the design of their gear - Here's where I was shocked--despite all the Astro zealots out there extolling the virtues of the A40s, I actually found these headphones to be very uncomfortable. Despite being mostly plastic, they're actually kind of heavy; I found clamping force to be uncomfortably high both downward and inwards; the earpads, though comfy to the touch, have VERY small openings that qualify the A40s as on-ear at best--combined with high lateral clamping pressure and my earlobes were screaming at me to take the A40s off; and the small headband cushion created a very uncomfortable hot spot on the top of my head after about 10 minutes that I could never eliminate no matter how much I resized, re-adjusted, or took breaks from my gaming session--a BIG disappointment given how well-renowned these headphones are for comfort Summary review: There's a lot here to [potentially] like about the new Astro A40 TR/MixAmp Pro TR package in terms of design, features, usability, and even sound quality--and perhaps I'm an anomaly given the large swathes of the gaming community that swear by these cans, but I just couldn't get into them. Honestly, I grabbed them specifically because I wanted to see what all the fuss was about, and because I've been looking for a surround-capable headphone that would work seamlessly across the PS4 and PC platforms. Sadly, the latter is not the case here. Though fully featured for tournament and e-sports gamers, streamers, and content-creators, the MixAmp Pro TR is just a fair PC USB soundcard and doesn't actually provide on-board Dolby Headphone surround as the design would otherwise imply. If you're exclusively a PS4 gamer, you probably aren't going to care; but given that one of the selling points of this Gen 4 package was compatibility across multiple platforms, this is a big letdown. Though sound quality on the headphones themselves is actually quite good, I found them to be so uncomfortable that it was a chore to try slogging through even a few hours of gaming with them; I can't imagine the leatherette earpads and headband cushion from one of Astro's storied mod kits would do anything more (for me) than simply make my ears hotter. Given my strong negative reactions for ergonomics and comfort, I STRONGLY encourage you to audition the A40s for yourself before investing in a package this pricey, especially if you are also a PC gamer hoping to capitalize on what appeared to be onboard surround processing. Having said that, there are probably good reasons the A40s are so popular and they actually do SOUND pretty nice; so if you already know what to expect in terms of fit and comfort, if you're a PS4-only gamer, or a PC gamer in need of some powerful streaming, content creation, or tournament-oriented features, this package still just might fit your needs.

Extremely comfortable, great sound
Posted .Pros mentioned:Design, Set upThe Astro A40 TR Gaming Headset + MixAmp Pro TR Controller is a very nice gaming headset, even the packaging is has a certain 'wow' factor to it. Upon opening the box, it's clear that alot of thought was put into the design of this headset, both for style and functionality; it looks great and just feels well made. This headset is a bit heavier than my current Logitech set, but they're also quite a bit more comfortable. The extra padding on the earcups and headband go a long way toward that added comfort, but I believe the headband adjusters are a huge reason they're more comfortable; once you get them where you want them, they stay put and the headset seems to simply hug your head. I've worn these for hours, even while working, and so far I've never felt like I needed a rest from them. The sound from this headset is superb, especially with the ability to set up customized EQ settings that can be switched with the press of a button on the mixamp. The headset is also highly customizable. You can place the mic on either side, swap out the earcups, headband, and even swap out the magnetized eartags for customized ones if you like. I have the headset hooked to my PC, and I haven't used all of the functionality of the mixamp. However, the mixamp, like the headset, seems very well built. It's heavier than I expected, and the dials offer some resistance when you're adjusting them, so midgame, you're not going to accidentally swing the volume too far. Also, as I mentioned earlier, I found the ability to switch between 4 EQ settings by merely pressing a button to be quite useful when gaming. The downloadable software from Astro allows you to change the EQ presets, mic settings, and even create your own settings files that you can save and load. This allows you to easily fine tune the sound to your liking. Overall, I think this is great headset. The comfort and sound are both greater than the previous headsets I currently have, so I'm fairly confident I'll be using these going forward. I would recommend these in a heart beat.

Q: QuestionIs there something else I have to buy to use this product and extra adapter I have I PS4 thanks
Asked by Anonymous.
- A:Answer For the ps4, you don't need anything extra to use it. For the PS5 however, you need the hdmi splitter from Astro which is around 40 bucks (That's only if your tv or monitor doesn't have an digital optical port.) If your screen has that port, then you don't need anything extra.
