A side dish to the Cornetto trilogy
||Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.Edgar Wright is one of the best directors of modern films; a master of comedy, action and all around terrific and exciting filmmaker. Attack the Block is not a Wright film, with Joe Cornish actually directing, who is best known for writing Little Britain and appearing in Hot Fuzz & Shawn of the Dead (Wright exec. produces this film), and for the life of me it could very well be Wright's film and thats a great thing. This film is about a group of impoverished South Londoners who live in government housing whose "block" have been invaded by aliens and must team up to prevent them from taking over the world. Fast, funny, tightly paced (88 minutes long!) and a great debut from first-timer Cornish and is not only a must watch, but a must buy! The PQ and AQ on the Blu Ray is fantastic, with the film retaining its 35mm sheen and grain, and having fantastic detail and shadow detail (Mostly a dark film) and the audio having a major field day with its varied soundfield of explosions, directional effects and spot on dialogue levels. The extras though, are fantastic and worth the price alone, which is very cheap nowadays. Starting off are 3 (!) commentaries by a mix of various cast & crew members that almost never overlap information, are full of interesting anecdotes and are absolute must listens. Also of note is a 101 minute making-of documentary which is longer than the film itself and filled with comprehensive info about casting choices, film locations, and some nice raw behind the scenes. Also included are four feauturettes, trailers and BD-Live functionality. At the price the Blu Ray is at BBY, $9.99 its worth it by itself, but the Savestation sales are the best to grab this modern, overlooked classic. Must buy all the way!!!!!

Original and Fun but not Out of This World
||Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.I bought this Blu-ray on a whim. It was down to $10 and I had a $5 gift card so I figured, " Hey, why not?" It had been out for a few years by this point and I had heard that this was one of the underrated gems of the horror / comedy genre. The film certainly has it's strengths. It's an original story featuring original characters (which almost seems rare these days) and the boys do an excellent job at making you believe they have all grown up together in the same block for years. The aliens are unique and the action isn't too bad. It simply boils down to a fun, entertaining movie. Unfortunately, the film was hyped up, at least to me, a bit too much and didn't quite meet the expectations I had set. Not a fault of the film in any, which I did through enjoy, but I probably would have liked it more had I not heard anything about it beforehand. I would recommend this Blu-ray, especially at the $7-10 price range. It looked good and sounded good and had some fun special features and behind the scenes stuff that I still haven't yet fully gone through. The film is entertaining enough to warrant multiple viewings so that's a winner in my book.

Classic sci-fi theme with a great update
||Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.Capturing some of the late 70s and 80s themes of children faced with monsters or aliens & having to deal with the new enemy or friend without belief or help from the grown-ups, ATTACK sets us up in a British slum with some not-so-cute thug kids accidentally bringing about a vindictive alien invasion. Led by STAR WARS VII co-star John Boyega (in his first cinematic role), the kids spout infectious slang while navigating cops, drug dealers and strange, toothy, fur-covered aliens by the meteor load. I don't think any wheels are reinvented here, but the story is fast-paced & feels both celebratory & fresh. Believe.

The inner city has never been so much fun!

After watching it I had to own it, such a great movie! It stars Nick Frost and Jodie Whitaker with a very young talented cast! Also, tons of behind the scene and making of bonus features. For more fun turn on the sub titles to read the slang the younger cast uses!

Fantastic surprise of a movie.
||Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.I had no idea what to expect going in, and to be honest, I'm glad. I got this as apart of a "3 blu rays for X amount of dollars" sale that Best Buy has from time to time, and this just sounded interesting from what I read on the back of the case. Funny, great action, and overall very entertaining. You get to see John Boyega(now known as Finn from Star Wars) in a really different kind of role. Worth checking out for sure!

Its about a group of teen thugs in the UK trapped in an apartment complex while being perused by "big alien gorilla wolf mother f**kers" the story is solid the character development is good the special effects are good. the alien is a very simple but original design that looks amazing.

Surprisingly Awesome.
||Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.I'd never heard of this movie before buying it and admittedly the only reason I did was because I noticed John Boyega stared in it. I'd just come out of watching Star Wars Ep. VII and loved his character Finn so I thought I'd give this movie a try. It was a good choice. This movie is hilarious, action packed, and even a little scary.
