I wanted a bigger sound for my TV. I use a Bose system on my iMac so I decided to try the 301's for the TV. Great choice!! They deliver the deep, rich (loud) sound I've been looking for!!! Problem solved!!

I have waited 38 long years for my Bose speakers. Listened to some 901's long ago, but could never really find the room for them. Well a long awaited birthday gift to myself. My 301's look perfect with my hardwood furniture and were by far the best bookshelf size speakers that myself and wife compared to all available. Dont put it off like i did, your ears deserve the best reproduction of your music collection.

Just got these as a replacement for the ones that came with my home theater. Can't believe the difference. Crisp, clear sound; and they look good too.

I am a fan of Bose stuff. I think these speakers represent a great value. I am using them currently mounted on the wall in the garage, but they have also been used as rear surround speakers in my living room. I think Bose is smart and eq's out the range their speakers do not play well, which is what makes them sound so good, as you never hear anything that sounds bad. These are not world ending speakers, but a great sound quality for the money.

Very nice vocals and have plenty of bass. Really surrounds the room with the tweeters that bounce sound off the walls.

Great speakers, mid bass is cool too... Bought stands for them also, don't want $300 plus sitting on the floor... You'll hear vocals clearly, music sounds nice... But I wish they upped the ante on the low bass, come on for 3 bills, gimme more punch for the money... Buy a subwoofer... Anyways, I've seen reviews on these speakers, I'm most impressed by how long they actually last. Some folks have had them for over 10 years, that's a major plus...

Decided to buy this set of speakers, great sound and bass.
A:AnswerTo get the most from the Bose 301 speaker system, run them through a good quality amplifier ( or receiver ). You need the extra power that the TV alone can't provide, to make these speakers really ":sing".
A:AnswerThank you for your question!
The Bose 301 Series V speaker is a passive speaker, so you would have to use a non-Bose receiver/amplifier in order to power them. Once you have your speakers connected to the receiver/amplifier using speaker wire you would need to connect your CD Player into a stereo line input using an RCA stereo cable. If you need any assistance with getting this set up, please contact Bose Product and Technical Support at 1-800-711-5772 - 8:30AM-10:00PM M-F, Sat 9-7:00 EST.
A:AnswerYou can put them anywhere you want to. Try different positions to see which sounds best. Based on your positioning, here's a little trick. Turn the speakers on their sides and place them vertically with the tweeters angled toward the floor or your listening position. This will direct the higher frequencies right to your listening position while still getting the direct / reflecting benefits of hitting the wall and ceiling behind them. EXPERIMENT!
A:AnswerHi Singh.
The impedance specifications of the 161 and 301 speakers refers only to their compatibility with a receiver. Since the Onkyo is compatible with any speakers rated between 6 and 16 ohms, you will not run into any problems. You are correct in your statement that the receiver is putting out 130 watts RMS. Since the 161 speakers are being used as surround speakers, they will not be playing all the time and not at an extremely high volume level. We don’t see any issues with the setup there, either.
Regarding the wattage rating of the 301 speakers, the difference between 130 and 150 watts is extremely negligible. We doubt you’d be able to hear a difference at all.
12 gauge speaker wire is a rather thick gauge for a run of this length. Signal loss is not a concern in this situation, so dropping down to a 16 or 18 gauge wire would be our recommendation, since you may have difficulty connecting a wire of that thickness to the speakers.
Although the 301 speakers use our Direct Reflecting technology, this will not impact their quality in a home theater set up whatsoever. The receiver handles the duty of directing sound to the proper speaker positions so therefore the surround sound effect will be preserved.
In reference to the floor stands and wire thickness, our suggestion would be to change your wire gauge to something smaller.
Due to internal design of the 301’s, the 24 inch height of the floor stands should be sufficient for your listening position. The height of the ceiling in your room should dictate how high to mount the 161 speakers, but the general rule of thumb is about 18 to 24 inches above ear level. At this height, a slight downward angle of 15 to 25 degrees would be acceptable for the rear speakers in your setup.
We hope this information is helpful for you. If you are located withing the U.S. and require further assistance, feel free to contact our support group at 1-800-711-5772. Thanks!
A:AnswerHi there.
For use with our Bose 301® Series V Speakers, we would suggest our FS-01 bookshelf speaker floorstands. This accessory is not available through Best Buy but you can find it on the Bose site here: http://bit.ly/GGHipA
Thank you for the question!
A:AnswerIn order for these speakers to play the sound from your TV, you will first need to purchase a stereo or home theater receiver. The receiver would provide power for the speakers and it will also allow you to connect your TV sound so that it plays through the speakers. You will need to make sure that your TV has an audio output and also that the receiver has the same type of audio input connection.
Thank you for the question!
