A decent inkjet for home
|Posted .Overall, the Canon TR8620 is feature-rich and works relatively well. I have been using laser printers for as long as I can remember, so the comparison to what I am used to may be biased. Pros: - Easy to set up - Respectable phone app - Reasonably fast operation - Duplexing capability - Fast document feeder - Intuitive UI (screen on printer) - Super easy WiFi set up - AirPrint capable - Excellent print quality for an inkjet printer - Very fast 'wake up and print' from sleep mode Cons: - A little on the slow side when it comes to printing - Some of the parts feel flimsy and I fear they will break easily - The paper sort of shoots out of the front of the printer and often lands on the floor upon completion of a print job - Makes some loud "groaning" noises - Ink usage concerns me - after printing one two page black & white document and one full-page photograph on regular paper, the ink levels in the app seem dramatically lower than I would have expected after printing so few pages (see attached image) - Faxing* - I sent myself a test fax via landline to an online fax service I use and the quality of the fax was very poor. (*Note, this could be the faxing service I use, not the printer - but I felt worth mentioning) Verdict: I think Canon has made a simple-to-set up and use multi-function printer that would likely do a good job for home use. As I mentioned above, I have concerns about ink consumption and the durability of some of the parts. Given the MSRP, I think the overall value is relatively good. I would likely recommend this to a friend looking for a budget-friendly printer with a few extra perks.

Great print quality and Duplexing in a small MFP
|Posted .The Pixma TR8620 InkJet MFP has great print quality and lots of features. It's also has great animated tutorials. The one for inserting new ink cartridges was very helpful! Features I was impressed that it has a paper tray underneath and a sheet feeder for the scanner too. There is also a rear sheet feeder to throw in a few pages or a different size of paper easily. It duplexes, which is a feature I love! Almost forgot, it has a large and bright tough screen which is well used for various animated tutorials. It really walks you through installing ink cartridges very well! I attached a pictures of what it looks like. It also shows you at the bottom of the screen as they are inserted - while it walks you through the process! Very simple and re-assuring. I attached a photo of what the screen looks like while you're inserting ink cartridges with this review. There are lots of built in printables too and more available on-line. You can find various kinds of graph paper, writing paper, and even patterns and backgrounds to print on paper to make it look cool. The printer will connect directly to various online services too like Google Classroom, Dropbox, Facebook, Evernote, OneDrive, and more. Print Quality It has great print quality but that's expected isn't it? Where it really stands out from the crowd is the quality of the draft print jobs! I'm used to draft printing being so light or so broken - with white lines through text or characters out of alignment, that it's almost not worth using. This has a draft mode that is worth using! It doesn't seem to do any of that. Text is aligned, you don't get lines through characters or images, and the quality is dark enough to be very usable. So I can get fast printouts without bad looking text! Scanning I've only done a little scanning so far but it does a good job with color and black and white - photo and text. The copy function also reproduced photos well - keeping colors just like the original. The Windows Scanning application for it seems very basic at first and is simple to use but if you dig around you can change the resolution, up to 600dpi, and other settings. Strange It takes two black ink cartridges! Very odd. The one is a higher quality ink. You don't seem to need to do anything special to switch. It seems to do that by itself. Anyway, I just thought it was odd. I don't think I mind it and I'm sure there are some advantages to it. Overall Canon did a great job with this MFP! I love the big touch screen, the text quality being good in draft mode, and the fact that it has the feeders and duplexing that I want! It's a complete package in a small package!

Reliable device with crisp printing and features
|Posted .I’ve been looking to move on from my current all-in-one, as I’m on a monthly printing program and found out that if I cancelled it, my ink cartridges would be turned off and I’d have to buy all new ones. That really got me looking for a replacement printer/copy/scanner. Pros: Crisp, clean printing Ink price not heart stopping Scan to cloud (box/google/dropbox) Cons: No web-interface control of scanner function No 'sleep hours' just an overall timeout IJ Cloud setup fail with using Google Account vs (Google) email address Overall writeup: The printer came packaged nicely in a plastic bag and surrounded by Styrofoam so it wouldn’t get banged up in shipping (see pic). A small cardboard container held the power cable, 5 ink cartridges and an RJ-11 phone cable for the fax function. I personally don’t have a POTS line, so no faxing for me. One other cardboard slat held the getting started guide and some safety paperwork (see pic). Setup was a breeze and I followed the small getting started booklet. When it came to installing the five ink cartridges, the orange cap that keeps the ink port covered unleashed blue ink on my floor and paperwork (see pic). I’ve never used Canon Ink before but the other vendor ink cartridges never did that to me. In pricing out a replacement 5-pack of ink, I did not have a heart attack; the pricing seemed very reasonable. During initial calibration, the printer yelled at me for having the paper in the tray incorrectly. I don’t understand how, but it kept erroring on me saying to fix the paper. So, on the third adjustment, it took the paper and was fine. I run a mesh Wi-Fi network and while joining the printer to it, the wizard noticed that my single SSID had a bunch of MAC addresses to go with it. I opted to use the MAC with the Access Point closest to the printer; it worked just fine and had no issues differentiating between the 2.4 & 5GHz networks because it found itself onto 2.4GHz just fine. I went around to all of my devices and uninstalled the old printer’s “Smart” apps, removed the cloud printers (that will be decommissioned soon anyways) and installed the Canon App. I had no problem finding the printer on Android, ChromeOS and iOS. For Windows 10, again, no issues there finding & getting the driver auto-installed. From Windows, you can’t “manage” it and kick off scanner commands like other brands by default. Installing the Canon IJ Driver software gets some more printer options in Windows’ Control Panel, but no ability to Scan Photos or Docs to your computer directly - you must press menu items on the scanner itself to select your PC (vs USB) and start the scan. The copier and scanner functions produce good replicas, whether they are photos scanned to a computer or documents copied for reproduction. I did have some inconsistent “copies” of pdfs not printing more than one copy via an older ChromeOS, however none of those issues on Windows or via a S10+. I had a schedule for my last printer that it’d shut off at 8pm and turn back on at 8am. That doesn’t seem possible here, it only has an overall timeout / sleep time from 15 - 240 minutes from last print. You also have to set it to wake on access, which should be a default in my mind. Getting into the Web Interface & admin password -- yeah, it’s hard to find, but it’s the serial number and then you can change it to whatever you want. When setting it up for cloud printing via the newly accessed Web Interface, I had to use my email address & create a password, vs using a Google OAUTH connection, which just created yet another password to have to keep track of (via a password manager). Once set up and linked with Google Drive, you can send your scanned documents and photos right to the cloud, should you choose. This is great, because I have a shared folder with the kiddo for homework. The scans go to the default location of the drive, but you can select the destination if it doesn’t always need to go to the same place every time. So, in using this printer/scanner thing, in a few instances, I found myself opening the entire lid to where the ink cartridges are, vs just opening the lid to scan some paper. If you grab a little too far back where the handle is, you’ll open the printer vs lifting the lid. At that point, you’ll have to wait a few seconds for a reset of the ink cartridges before continuing. In my usage, the printer has been available and hasn’t fallen offline when needed and that’s huge. Recommended? Sure! This thing has some neat cloud-scanning capabilities, prints some nice clean text and can scan/copy without much effort from the end-user.

excellent printer!
|Posted .this is more compact printer than what my parents have, it’s perfect for my small space I currently have on my condo, having things i’m looking for in one combination is prob what makes this printer a solid thing to have at home! Pros - first thing I tested on this was printing pictures, mainly for my girlfriend, tested it on photo paper, not a regular paper, the quality was great it turned out good, we will be using this a lot to frame most of the pic that we will be using for our condo - this printer comes with 4.3 LCD screen, it not very big, but it’s more than enough to be able to press things - when setting up the printer the screen would also show you images on how to install ink cartridges, so having these pictures helps - the printer also comes with SD memory slot , which what I used to test the photo printing, i’m glad they still haven’t given up on SD slot so was surprised - the copying portion of this device is more robust than I thought, I was just expecting a simple copy button, but you’ll have multiple options of what type of copying you would want - still impressive how much this printer can do and how the manage to find way to put all these features on a very small printer Cons - the bottom section to put paper inside the machine was kinda a pain, you’ll have to remove this small plastic cover to put the paper and just the process I wish it was easier - don’t expect to put much paper on this thing, this printer is small and if you print a lot you would prob need to keep refilling the paper bin i’m overall satisfied with this printer the size is perfect for a small office , have the ability to copy, scan, print, and printing pictures will be the main thing i’ll be using this printer. the build quality seems ok, but be careful folding some of the section of this printer because the plastic tray are tin

Good and Bad!!!
|Posted .Built to Last!!!! Let me start of by saying that I still have and still currently using my first canon multifunction printer that is about 6 years old and still works great without any problems, so that should tell you something about the quality of Canon printers and this printer is no different. The Canon Pixma TR8620 is an all in one printer that can handle all your small business or home office and even personal needs with ease. I have been using this printer now for a few days for my home office and personal need without any issues and the print jobs came out clean, clear and crisp. So, let’s get into the details of what this printer has to offer the good and the bad. Unboxing and Setup- So, in the box is the printer, power cable, telephone cable, instruction manual, and the startup toner cartridge. The printer has Ethernet, USB and Telephone line input in the back. USB AND ETHERNET CABLES ARE NOT INCLUDED. If you prefer to use the printer with the USB cable you will have to purchase that separately. So, I was a bit unhappy with the setup process, even though its pretty simple the printer does not guide to setup the printer with the wireless connection. You can setup the printer with either wireless via WIFI or WIFI-Direct or wired if you prefer. I was able connect the printer to my router in a few minutes and was able to print and scan in no time using the 4.3 inch color touchscreen which is actually very responsive. The printer weighs in at 18lb and measures about 8H x 18W x 15D. Scan and Print Functionality of this printer are pretty good. The print quality in color and black and white came out pretty nice, although I must say I was not impressed with the print speed. This printer prints 10 page per minute in color and 15 page per minute in black and white and it just felt like it took the printer forever to print one page. As for scanning you have the option to use the flat bed or you are able to use the automatic document feeder to scan multiple pages and the scan quality was not bad at all. Over all it’s a pretty good printer but I believe it could do better. Pros- Good Print Quality Good Scan Quality Solid Built Piece of Machine Large Touchscreen Display Automatic Document Feeder Cons- Slow Print Speed Low Paper Capacity (100 Sheets Only) No setup Process

Why is it so loud?—A for effort C for execution
|Posted .So I may sound a little hypocritical in this so I want to add this at the very beginning of my review—I’ve never once had much of a positive outlook or positive experience with a Canon branded product. This will be however, an unbiased review on my experience and everything I’ve faced while using this product. Overview—First let's clear something from my headline out of the way. This is not a quiet product! When it operates this unit produces a high pitched whining sound that can be heard from the adjacent room with the door open. The sound is produced from the rollers grabbing the paper from the lower trey. The worst part is that this whining sound reminds me of older printers that have reached, or will be reaching end-of-life very soon. If this is infact normal, and my unit is not defective, then it’s mostly acceptable, as most purchasing a printer of this type would be using it for a small business/home office environment. I’m going with the assumption something isn’t normal here. First time setup is incredibly simple, unpack, load paper, pop cartridges, plug in, run 4-5 onscreen pages for wifi/setup and you are good to go. For desktop printing you download some Canon software and run a scan. Locating the product took about 1-2 min. If you wish to print from your phone there’s a Canon Print app which has practically the same process as for desktop and takes about the same amount of time. The only thing not covered or mentioned in the setup manual or anywhere on the packaging, possibly an online manual, is direct printing for when opting out of a traditional WiFi setup. However, it’s incredibly easy that adding it would possibly be a waste. Press (WiFi radio) button on-screen > Direct Connection > (new popup) Direct Conn Settings > Toggle > connect from phone settings with provided passcode. Same simplicity for printing from the top feeder. Just drop pages, make sure you're loaded with clean paper below and tap copy. It’ll beep when you place paper in the feeder trey letting you know it’s setup. There’s also a special trey in the back for photo prints and includes a cover for when not in use. Unfortunately, I had no photo paper to test this portion of the printer during my time of ownership so cannot speak of the quality. Evenso, I did print a photograph in color using the normal print trey and can say without photo paper I got some great prints. Photocopying anything is great. Top lid feels sturdy and well put together. The overall construction is on the higher end of the spectrum and feels really well put together. As far as features, this machine does it all. Print from desktop, mobile, cloud, fax, USB, SD Card, feed trey. Scan from desktop, mobile, feed trey. Scan to desktop, mobile, cloud. There’s a lot more integrations than I could even try. For instance, there’s a google classroom integration for what I assume will upload paperwork to classroom. There’s many more as well such as Google Drive, Google Photos, Microsoft OneDrive, Microsoft OneNote, Evernote, Box, Dropbox, Facebook/Messenger Integration, and many more. This is where Canons best efforts start to slip away. First, I attempted to print from a cloud picture in a throwaway Google account on Drive. It worked and it was extremely simple to link. The Canon touch display provides a link for you to visit on your phone and log in. Then it loads up your files on the touch display of the Canon. .pdf and .jpg is a recognizable format however, .txt, .png, .gif, or .heic were not. The official documentation mentions tif, and png among other are supported but I’d assume from SD Cards. About 2 days after attempting to print from Google Drive I tried it again. I’m welcomed by the lovely message of log in, AGAIN! This isn’t just Google Drive but also happens with Box, Dropbox, and OneDrive. On top of that Dropbox’s integration doesn’t give an auth link like the others. It provides an email/password field for you to type in on a less accurate touchscreen from the Canon. Evernote dies out mid integration with a red error screen. But to be totally honest and fair, this is presumably a limitation these providers provide on their end and fault does not totally fall on Canon. I can’t say for certain as I am not a developer but I will say it doesn’t really work all that well. I’ll use it without the cloud options and if I need to print something from a cloud I’ll move it to my phone. Lastly, I’ve owned several brand of printers including 1 or 2 Canon’s prior. This one seems to be the least economical. It’s burned through its included ink with about only 7 prints (1 full picture), picture included with review. Pros Sturdy Construction Many features Moderately fast prints Ease of use Cons Cloud connectivity issues Loud whining sound while printing Ink doesn’t last long

Fantastic starter printer
||Posted .Owned for 1 week when reviewed. Its a great printer, it prints fast and the quality of the pictures is superb. It doesnt take up a lot of space and doesnt make a lot of sound, it even has a "quiet mode" which is new to me. My only complication with it, is that the piece with the printing screen has to be up in order to print. Not really a big issue or anything, I just forget to open it half the time haha

COMBO INK PACK NOT COMPATIBLE
||Posted .I purchased the Pixma TR8620 and the combo package of ink that was displayed together with the printer on the website. Be aware that this ink is NOT compatible with this printer. The TR8620 has a larger inkwell "PGBK 280" which is not included in the combo pack. Unfortunately, I do not do a lot of printing so by the time I needed to replace the ink it was beyond the allowable return period. I will be visiting the local store to try to resolve this issue.

Q: QuestionDoes this have auto duplex printing and scanning?
Asked by Dart.
- A:Answer Does have duplex printing, i.e. can print on both sides of a page automatically from a word processing document or web page. Does not have duplex scanning. Don't know if there is an easy way to make duplex copies.

Q: Questionwhat ink cartridge does model use tr8620
Asked by barney.
- A:Answer The 8620 uses #281 for the small cartridges and #280 for the big black one. Please note that the cartridges for the 8520 will not work in the 8620 printer. I tried that. Some 3rd party sellers on Amazon claim that they work for both printers. They don't.

Q: QuestionDoes it work with iMAc?
Asked by Jimmymac.
- A:Answer Indeed it does. I got a new iMac this summer with Catalina as its OS. Apple did a download updating Catalina to Big Sur. That update rendered my old Canon printer obsolete. Chatted with Canon on line and they were very helpful to recommend their "All in ones" that were compatible with Big Sur OS. My previous Canon all in one was 11 years old and still worked fine. Sorry to see it go. Hope this answers your question Jimmymac.
