The RF20mm F1.4 L VCM is an entirely different L-series lens, targeting a wide range of still-image and video shooters, with a combination of strong wide-angle coverage, a fast f/1.4 maximum aperture, and excellent optical design. On a full frame camera this lens gives you a vivid wide-angle look which has for decades been used in landscape, street photography, architectural photography, and strong commercial imagery. On the video side, this lens really shines with a dedicated manual Iris ring, and a linear focus motor called a VCM (Voice Coil Motor) that is virtually silent. The VCM works in tandem with a Nano USM on the floating focus unit for incredibly fast autofocus. And finally, focus breathing is barely noticeable on this incredibly versatile lens.

This lens is really brilliant for Astro photography. I haven’t used it for video yet, but think that is where it will really shine with the VCM. I really like the size and weight of this lens compared to some of the other RF L series lenses. The VCM version of the 24, 35, 50, and 85mm lenses all share the same filter size and are supposed to be very close to the same size and weight. With this 20mm lens I found it to be extremely sharp, excellent contrast and colors, and virtually no coma in the corners when shooting stars. It’s a brilliant lens! I have added two photos to my review, just know that the one with the stars in a composite of 4 vertical photos, the sunset photo was cropped to slightly at the bottom. The full width of the lens is captured in the second photo, but not the height. It’s about a 16*9 aspect ratio.

To me, this 20mm and the 35mm are the best of the f1.4L VCM prime lenses from Canon. I won't give any of them a 5 star review because of the reliance on lens profiles to correct the image vignetting and distortion versus a better optical design. Still, the end results are very good and true to the focal length; i.e., the lens has a slightly wider field of view so that you still have a 20mm lens image after the profile corrections.
