Synopsis

Cars
A pedal-to-the-metal race car determined to prove his worth on the tracks discovers that life isn't always about crossing the finish line first in Toy Story director John Lasseter's mechanically minded tale of friendship and loyalty. Lightning McQueen (voice of Owen Wilson) may be just a rookie, but he's convinced that he can realize his dream of zooming by the checkered flag if he can only make it to California in time to compete in the upcoming Piston Cup Championship. When Lightning takes a detour into the slow-moving, Route 66 town of Radiator Springs, however, it begins to appear as if his shot at the big time has effectively stalled out. Of course, Lightning's exciting cross-country trek wasn't all for naught, and after befriending such quirky Radiator Springs residents as Sally the Porsche (voice of Bonnie Hunt), Doc Hudson (voice of Paul Newman), and Mater the Tow Truck (voice of Larry the Cable Guy), the eager young racer learns that sometimes life is more about the voyage than the outcome of the race. ~ Jason Buchanan, Rovi

This is one of my favorites. Cars tells the story of Lightining McQueen, a race car who finds himself stuck in a forgotten town along Route 66. The story is brilliantly told and the characters are all very well developed. The environment is also well developed, Cars really does capture the feel of Route 66 and makes you want to take a trip down the mother road yourself. The animation is what you would expect from PIXAR. In other words, outstanding. All characters and backgrounds are eprtly rendered and the animation is fluid and natural looking. The Blu-Ray transfer is flawless, everything is very sharply defined and crystal clear. The Blu-Ray makes Cars look even better than it did in theaters. The extras give an in-depth look at the making of Cars. From the inspiration for Mater, to the design of the characters and even some scenes from when the guys at PIXAR took thier own trip down Route 66. One bit I found interesting was when a race track owner commented that Cars is the first movie to give an accurate portrayal of racing. There's lots of action and lots of fun to be found in Cars. Cars is a movie both adults and children can enjoy. Perfect family entertainment.

    Like Being At the Movies!!!

Being a parent with two children, I have seen Cars way too many times to admit. However, this week I purchased a PS3 for the gaming and Blu Ray Disc player. I purchased Cars and thought it would look pretty good....it was awesome!!! The detail of every scene was simply amazing. The whole movie looked like a 3D movie as the cars seem to jump off the screen at us and into our family room. The story itself is a great story for kids and adults and the voices used are top stars in Hollywood (Owen Wilson, Bonnie Hunt, Larry the Cable Guy, Paul Newman). But getting this movie on a Blu Ray system is the best way to go and you will not be disappointed. I know many are debating whether or not the Blu Ray Players will make it but my vote is yes after watching such a great movie experience!!

    Great Blu-Ray Animation Title

This is one of the best animated movies produced that showcases the great detail and painstaking animation work that goes into making a very beautiful visually stunning movie. The detail that was used in the backgrounds, the cars and pretty much everything else is jaw dropping. I kept paying more attention to the details in the movies than the movie itself. For those with a large 50+ HDTV, you won't be disappointed and it will make your TV stand out even more as the movie rolls through your living room screen. The story line is so, so, and was not too thrilled about it. I'm sure the kids enjoy more so then the adults. Even with that said, this is one movie to have in your Blu-Ray collection. It's a tour de force that showcases Blu-Ray's muscle and your TV's ability to handle such beatufiul fast paced animation.

    Talking Chevron Cars This Ain't

I've heard so many people say this, and I will agree- I went into this expecting nothing more than a GIANT Chevron commercial! Talking cars- how original, right? Well, unlike the Wallace & Gromit-inspired commercials, Cars is indeed very fun to watch over and over! While some of the characters are a bit stereotypical, they nonetheless offer the typical charm associated with PIXAR movies! Through the whole movie, you will watch as Lightning McQueen falters at first with everything he does, but then learns his lessons one by one to triumph and become a better person, er, car! Great with young kids and big kids alike, I'd recommend this movie to anyone who is looking for a good movie to sit down in front of and enjoy- I know I did!

    Cars somewhat disappointing for adult

I was expecting to be drawn into this story about whimsical cars with attitude, but there were some flaws which prevented me from entirely enjoying the movie. First, I found the lead character's personallity traits annoying. When he gets taught a life lesson of course he becomes a better person (or car), but this transformation seemed stilted and forced. Second, the number of colorful characters in the story seemed excessive. Quaint instantly recognizable characters are good, but too many makes for a noisy mishmash. This said, there were some really good scenes and devices like the tractor-cows which while not completely redeeming the film, did provide good comic relief.

Lightning McQueen, a hotshot rookie race car driven to succeed, discovers that life is about the journey, not the finish line, when he finds himself unexpectedly detoured in the sleepy Route 66 town of Radiator Springs. On route across the country to the big Piston Cup Championship in California to compete against two seasoned pros, McQueen gets to know the town's offbeat characters--including Sally, a snazzy 2002 Porsche, Doc Hudson, a 1951 Hudson Hornet with a mysterious past, and Mater, a rusty but trusty tow truck--who help him realize that there are more important things than trophies, fame and sponsorship.

Cars stars Owen Wilson as Lightning McQueen a rookie race car who is obsessed with winning the Piston Cup championship. On his way to the last race he falls out of his trailer and ends up in a little town called Radiator Springs. After destroying the town's main road he is sentenced to fix the road and finds out there is more to life than becoming rich and famous. NASCAR legends Dale Earnhardt Jr. , Richard Petty and Darrell Waltrip provide voices as animated cars that look like their real life rides. I thought this movie was excellent and it was another of Disney Pixar's instant classics that the whole family will enjoy.

    Ok for Pixar...

Pixar movies are by definition fantastic and funny movies for the whole family! So by that right in itself, this is a must buy to complete your Pixar collection. However, I'd say that it's probably my least favorite out of the other Pixar movies. It seems a little more geared towards kids only, and the marketing on it was a little overboard. I'd say if you are a hard core Pixar friend then you've already bought this, and if you are new to Pixar then you should start out with another one of their movies.
