  Interesting and pricey

  I never thought of myself as someone who would use an electric blanket, or in this case a cooling mattress cover, but here we are. Installing this thing from beginning to end is actually easier than I thought. The mattress cover is secured to the bed with straps. I guess it's a nice touch to keep it from falling off during sleep. The main hydro unit is the size of a lunch box. (Use distilled water or prepare yourself for a nice buildup of minerals) Connecting all of the hoses was simple enough. The unit comes with a remote which is a nice touch. The lack of a shut off timer is a disappointment. Even my $50 fan has a timer... I digress. One thing you have to remember is that the mattress cover takes about 20-30 minutes to hit the temperature that you're desiring. (I have yet to experiment with a smart plug and smart speaker to see if I can set it on a timer. Maybe for an update review) I thought the ridges on the mattress cover would make it a bit weird and uncomfortable, but it didn't hinder my sleeping at all. I prefer to be cooler during sleep, and having it set to 68, it did a great job of keeping me from experiencing night sweats. I also tried it on heat, and while it doesn't heat up as fast as an electric blanket, it did keep me toasty. (By the way, with a product named ChiliSleep, I found it odd that is also heats... name is misleading) The only thing that may be a deal breaker for some is that the main lunch box sized unit gives off white/static noise. This is mostly from the fan that I assume controls the temperature. I personally didn't mind it since I'm a heavy sleeper, but if you're the type of is a light sleeper, this may not give you a good night's rest. The only shocker for me is the actual price. This thing costs more than my mattress. I've never owned something like this, so I don't know what the average life expectancy is or how it's repaired, but I can't imagine that it's cheap. What would have been great is if this thing could change temperature on a timer setting. (Starts out at 68 on sleep, then three hours later goes to 70, and then two hours later 72, then shuts off an hour before waking up) All in all, it does that it says, along with heating... I can see this being very useful in summer and winter. (I just wish the remote had more options, or in this day and age who doesn't make an app for their device. I'm surprised it's not called the "Smart Cube Sleep Hydropower Mattress.") At the price however, I'm not sure if it's a must have...

  Subtle Comfort For Better Sleep

  I'm a big guy and I naturally "run hot" even at night when I sleep so the opportunity to try the ChiliSleep Cube Heating/Cooling Mattress pad seemed like it would be awesome! In my head I would put this magic pad on my bed, set the temperature to an almost cold setting and I would sleep without sweating even under the three blankets my wife prefers to have. The reality is somewhat less dramatic but still impressive but I want to clarify just what my experience was and urge you to consider the pros and cons. First up, the unit comes in a box with the mattress pad in a drawstring bag and the Cube (the reservoir/temperature control/power supply) with an instruction booklet which contains some tips for a quality night sleep using the ChiliSleep product. Mine came as a half king size pad with an elastic strap that runs from top to bottom of the pad so you can wrap it around the mattress long ways to keep it on. This is a pro, you can set the temperature you sleep with without having to commit to a full bed width pad which may differ from your partner's preferred temperature (I can sleep cool and my wife can sleep warm at the same time). The pad itself is much thinner than I assumed from reading the description, with tiny tubes that carry water from the Cube unit through a flexible foam tube into the mattress and back out again. And I know what you're thinking but no you can't really feel the tubes when you lay on it, so if you can't sleep with wrinkles or bumps you won't have to worry. You connect the foam tube to the back of the Cube unit, and you can arrange the pad to place the tube at the head or foot of your bed depending where you plan to place the Cube. Fill the Cube with distilled water, plug it in and turn it on so it can cycle the water into the pad then fill again until the system is full and charged (about a third to half a gallon of Distilled water in my experience). The booklet suggests giving the system about 20 minutes to warm or cool your spot in bed, and here's a big con with the system: unless I missed something you can't program a start time and it has no timer to turn off either. Essentially it runs however long you have it powered on, no more and no less. Temperature control is set either on the Cube or via a remote control between 55 degrees and 110 degrees, I tried both trying to get a literal feel for the extreme high and low. This is my big caveat for anyone thinking of using this, that feeling you get climbing into a freshly changed bed all cool and fresh? Its not there when you set ChiliSleep to 55 degrees. Coldest setting doesn't feel cold when you get in. Highest setting should be like climbing into a beach towel right from the dryer but it feels no different climbing into bed after even a 45 minute warm up. Further, if you need to change the temperature at some point in the night you should wear sunglasses because the lights on the top of this are SUPER BRIGHT and when I made an adjustment at 1am the other night my room illuminated like someone turned their cell phone flashlight on which upset my wife as well as both my eyeballs. I solved the problem by placing a dry wash cloth over it and just using the remove (still bright but much smaller light source). OK, so my expectations were maybe too high because actually sleeping with the ChiliSleep Cube system on the coolest setting I didn't sweat at all, so that's a win! On the highest setting I laid in bed for about 10-15 minutes before I had to kick off the sheet (no blankets) and only a couple more minutes before I turned the temperature down real low. This means that you will be cooled or heated by the ChiliSleep Cube but its not a dramatic first impression getting into bed. One important note for setting up though, you need space on all four sides for the air to vent and it vents plenty! I originally set the Cube on my night stand which is nearly level with my head and that was a no go because it just blows warm air right out into my face, I opted to put it on the floor beside the bed and ChiliSleep recommended putting at the foot or under the bed on either end you pick (head or foot). Final thought: really impressive idea that works great if you get past the pictures in your head reading the features standing in line to buy it. You won't have that fresh bed coolness on cold or that dryer heat on hot but given time throughout the night it will keep you at the temperature you need. I recommend not adjusting in the middle of the night unless you have no sensitivity to bright lights suddenly lighting up a dark room.

  Much cooler, more comfortable sleep

  We live in Phoenix so the summers get really warm here and we keep the thermostat around 78 in the summer to avoid $500+ air conditioning bills. When I saw this unit to keep the bed cool, I wanted to give it a try. First the positives: It is very easy to setup...just put the mattress pad under the sheets, fill the unit with distilled water, and plug the unit into the pad. That's pretty much it. It comes with a remote control so you can quickly change the temperature settings without needing to get out of bed. You can set the temp anywhere between 55 and 115 degrees. I started at the lowest setting and the temperature says it is about 59 degrees. This works perfectly for me since it usually doesn't get that cool with the sheets on. The other positive is that it is very quiet. I don't hear it running over the fan in my room. The negatives: There are only a couple of negatives I really have, the price and it only covers half the bed.. If you buy it, note that it only covers half the bed (we may try keeping it in the middle of the bed to see if it will cool both of us down during the summer). Overall, very easy to setup and I slept much better since I was cooler. I would recommend this to anyone willing to pay the price for this.
