Comic Book Villains [DVD] [2002]

The DVD version of Comic Book Villains is surprisingly very nice for what is essentially a low-budget, direct-to-video release. The anamorphic widescreen image is bright and clear, vital to the design of the film, which features a lot of comic book-ish primary colors. The Dolby 5.1 sound is another swell plus, and the rear speakers are given plenty to do in this splendidly noisy movie. The disc also includes the theatrical trailer, interactive menus, and subtitles in English and Spanish.

Synopsis

Comic Book Villains
In a sleepy small town there are two vibrant comic books stores that are rival universes unto themselves. Events spiral absurdly, violently out of control when the owners of the two shops -- nerdy hipster Ray (Donal Logue) and the nebbishy husband and wife team of Norman and Judy (Michael Rapaport and Natasha Lyonne) -- compete for a priceless collection of books left by the dead son of elderly Mrs. Cresswell (Eileen Brennan). Ray's friend, Archie (D.J. Qualls), tries to stop Ray from hiring a sleazy thief (Cary Elwes), but to no avail. Things get very ugly indeed. ~ Buzz McClain, Rovi

    Watch once, if ever.

Rival comic shops kill to claim a million dollar comic collection from a dead collectors mother. Danny Smith, Monet Mazur, DJ Qualls and Carey Elwes slide into predictable crime stereotypes in a dark criminal caper of 'Big Bang Theory'. By the time the movie ends, your already done with wanting to get a life of your own.
