This DVD was on sale for $4. I'm not as familiar with Cowboy Bebop - enjoyed the 1st season on adult swim but have yet to see the movie. But American Pop was a cable staple from my youth that took a while to ever see the light of day on DVD due to what I assume was music rights issues. More than Lord of the Rings, American Pop might be Bakshi's most mainstream and most accessible movie. Kept meaning to get it but had a cable-recorded-to-DVDR cop that finally no longer plays, Wish I bought it sooner as the recording is as inferior to the DVD as I figured it would be. Any 20th century kid who has even a passing interest in the evolution of music should have this in his or library. It's certainly not a biographical, but it's a heartfelt salute to people who had the dream and so often missed the mark. OK, the ending could have used some better music which dulls the impact but there's still an impact there. Give it a shot.

American Pop is an outstanding example of modern animation. The real thing, not CGI. The story links the different periods of music together really well. It's been a favorite of mine for years. I was fortunate enough to see it the first time in a "real" theatre. As for Cowboy Bebop, I may or may not watch it. Not a fan of anime.

Traces the history of popular music from the 1900s to the 80s. Watch for Hendrix!
