Good camera for simple surveillance
||Posted .Easy to set up if you are somewhat computer savvy. Video and sound work well over high speed ISP. Night vision has limited range, but is clear up to about 10 feet. Phone app works well and camera can be viewed remotely. Although not advertised for outdoor use, mine is under a protected porch and I've had no problems. Wish there was better recording options however.

Decent camera for the price
||Posted .I bought two of these to add to an existing system using Blue Iris as the DVR. They work okay most of the time except for the occasional blip in the picture caused by the camera that is detected as motion by the software so an event is recorded. Other than that issue, they are fine as a simple WiFi camera with sound.

Posted .We appreciate the feedback you provided and want to thank you for the input. We are sorry to hear that you encountered issues with the motion detection. Please note that you can adjust the sensitivity of the motion detection to suit your needs. To do this, log into the camera's settings and click on the setup tab. Then click the Motion Detection tab located on the left sidebar. Here you can adjust the sensitivity and the detection area. Refer to page 31 of the user manual for detailed information. If you continue to have problems contact D-Link technical support at support.dlink.com. We thank you for being a D-Link customer.

Its going back immediately!
Posted .Absolutely the worst wireless camera I have ever purchased. Bough for remote viewing of my pets and home while at work. "Easy Wireless Connection" was a joke, spent two hours trying to get it to connect before calling customer service. Tech support treated me like I was an idiot for not knowing how to change settings that I can't explain even now, and after about 2 hours of him guiding me through random internet pages (most of which wouldn't even load) the camera worked wirelessly. I was pleased with the picture quality as I need it for in home pet and child surveillance, but if I viewed the camera from within my home I got horrible audio feedback. Unfortunately after 2 hours this camera went offline, so I called DLink back. Tech support said "It does that sometimes, you can reset it and it will work." So.. I did, and 2 hours later it went offline again. Called back and was told to take back the camera if I didn't like it, and promptly hung up on. Reset the camera again hoping it was just my wireless connection going out due to storms and for some odd reason the camera wasn't reconnecting.. but it did it again. Called back DLink yet again and was told to hardline the camera via ethernet cable to see if that helped. Out of sheer desperation (It is 12am, can't really go switch it out) I tried this, even moving my camera to a room I do not need to watch so it is near the modem and my ethernet cable (since I dont have a 100 ft ethernet cable to stretch to the room it needs to be in) and lo and behold, it disconnected its self again. Called back tech support one last time to ask if my camera was defective and I was told to buy a new router (we have clearly established it is not the router as it does this hardlined) deal with resetting it every 2 hours (which if I'm at work how am I going to reset it? Defeats the purpose of a remote camera don't you think?) or return the camera. After all of these problems and the HORRIBLE customer service, I will be returning first thing in the morning and will never purchase another DLink product again. I absolutely do NOT recommend.

Okay, but. . . .
||Posted .This was our first security camera for the home, but when we discovered that the same company had a camera that would pan and tilt for a similar price, we returned it and got the pan/tilt model. Both models seem to have the same picture quality and work even in the dark. The 1150 model had a short power cord. The pan/tilt model had a more acceptable cord length. Set-up required 2 calls to D-Link tech support, but they were very helpful and patient. Afterwards, I bought 4 more cameras and set them up myself with no problems. You can monitor and angle the cameras on a smartphone or iPad, as well as a desktop computer, as long as your home wireless is working. You can have notifications sent to you when the camera detects motion or loud sounds. If you were to use the camera to monitor an outdoor setting, you might want to turn off the motion detection notifications, as just a slight breeze will be detected. My biggest concern is that they do not record when motion is detected, so if you are not actually watching when something happens, you will never know what it detected. But, for the money, this will work.

Very Good Value + Easy Set-Up
||Posted .This little camera produces very good daylight images. It has a night-time mode, where it switches to black-&-white; but I have it placed inside my house, shooting the exterior through a window. I get a lot of reflections (of the window-blinds) off the window at night, and so my night-time pics are not as clear as they might be. Set-up was almost trivially easy; but, to be fair, I'm an IT professional, and I understand networking pretty well. Still, like I said, almost trivial. One thing I really like about it is the camera's ability to just email you clips of events, without the need of any server or PC; the camera contains an SMTP (email) server, so it can just send email on its own. The camera also has a web-server built in, and you can just connect to that to do the set-up/configuration stuff, or just watch the live feed. You really don't need any dedicated software. However, D-Link has a free-download 'console' program you can use for stuff like multi-camera monitoring, if you want to set up multi-camera monitoring, and/or record to your PC hard drive, ether per-event, or just according to a schedule. If I decide I need any more security cameras, I'm likely to buy another one of these; I'm pretty satisfied with the value for the price.

Lots of options, but poor image.
Posted .If you live in an area with marginal internet speeds it will not connect to D-link cloud service, even to configure. You can config manually though once you get it on the network after waiting for all of the auto config options to fail. Needs to have a manual setup option from the start. That Zero Config option only exists if you have an entire D-link cloud router set up. I can't yet get it to FTP images but it will do vid clips on motion. The camera has lots of features not even mentioned in documentation. There is also a PC based DVR app from D-link that will record on schedule or motion. You can set motion on the camera for the FTP images and motion in the DVR for recording separately. The real down side is image quality. It states its VGA quality at 640 x 480 but it is obviously up-scaled from a much lower resolution. image is grainy and at 6 to 8 ft would likely not be usable in prosecution of a thief. It has its uses but not much of a security camera due to poor image. This day and age we 19 megapixel sensors in even the cheapest cell phones, but most home security cameras still suffer from low res sensors.

Does what I wanted
||Posted .If you're looking for all the bells and whistles this camera is probably not for you. Bottom line it's just so you can check in on a particular area from time to time. The pro's are: it has quality video and audio and I found the process of connecting it directly to my router to be very user friendly. (I have not tried to connect with WiFi but it does have that capiblility). It even has color video feed if there is enough light. It will email the user in case there is motion and/or sound and there are sensitivity settings that work surprisingly well. Con's: It won't text you so be aware, email is your only method of alert communication. You can take a still photo but you can't record video from the online feed. It may be possible to set up a DVR that will record but I haven't chosen to use it for that application. I can say for beginners like myself I found it to be inexpensive and easy to set up and use.

Affordable camera good quality
||Posted .Purchased this Camera to monitor home while traveling on vacation - pleasantly surprised with the video quality and images plus the ability to zoom in. Your frame rate depends on your Wi-Fi connection or 4G connection. Great bonus is that you get audio as well! I installed my camera using the convenient wall-mounted and positioned it exactly where I needed it. Set up took longer than expected and the only reason I wouldn't give this product five stars is that the D link website seems to be a little buggy at times especially during set up. Other than that the camera works fine on my tablet smart phone and PCs. I've had trouble viewing from my MacBook Pro however that seems to be a configuration issue not a big deal considering I use my smart phone or tablet mostly.

Q: QuestionHow is this camera powered? battery? and can i rotate it remotelyJust two questions - How is it powered? by battery OR wired? And will I be able to rotate the field of view remotely?
Asked by Subbu.
- A:Answer No Batteries; It requires household AC-line power; it has a small block transformer that plugs into a regular outlet, and has about a 6-ft long connection to the terminal power connector that plugs into the camera; much like a portable radio might have. Also, this model has no pan/tilt/zoom capability; it sees what it sees, based on where you place it - the only way to change the view is to just physically move the camera (with your human-hands).

Q: QuestionCan you see at night thru a window with this camera?
Asked by Anonymous.
- A:Answer Yes, it will see through a window at night; however the image tends to be degraded by reflections bouncing off the inside of the window. I have mine set up to shoot through a window; the window-blinds are behind (more 'inside') the camera; but at night, the inside lights cause the image of the blinds to be reflected off the inside-face of the window, and back into the camera lens, making the image somewhat noisy. Clean the window real well; and the more 'straight-on' (90 degrees/right-angle) you can point the camera at the window, the better. The more slanted it is, the more reflection you will get.

Q: Questionremote recording? Can you use this in a cottage up north and control it on a computer at home?
Asked by Renogaw.
- A:Answer Yes, you would need an Internet browser that can run Java and/or the MyDLink Lite app on your smart phone. Note, however, there are limitations on what you can "control," remotely. Since the product does not have tilt/pan functionality your image is static. That said, with the 1150 you can turn sound on/off, take a picture, switch between day/night/auto mode, turn sound detection on/off, turn motion detection on/off, and turn extender mode on/off.
