Funky, funky soul
Sharon Jones and the Dap Kings sound, on first listen, like a treasured vinyl album that you might happen on if you were lucky enough to be able to purchase albums from a '60s music collector. Sharon Jones channels Janis Joplin, Etta James, James Brown and more with her soulful, blues-etched voice that audio-ports listeners alternately back to the '60s and '70s as she lays down inspired vocals over the deep down, funky soul brass band called The Dap Kings. The slightly tinny, reverberating bass production sounds like early Chuck Berry's early records, recorded in a studio who knows where?... in a tiny studio in Harlem? However and wherever it was done, what Dap Tone records has joined together, let no man split asunder. This woman and this band should be famous -- they are an undiscovered treasure. Buy this today!
