This review is from Deadpool [Includes Digital Copy] [Blu-ray/DVD] [2016]
Deadpool Movie Review: I remember the negative, hateful reactions X-Men Origins: Wolverine got for what it did to the awesome character of Deadpool, who is very loved by the fans. At the time I basically knew nothing about the character, so I decided to look into him. What I found was one of the coolest, funniest and most entertaining characters I had ever seen. After so many years, I am happy to say, we finally got the Deadpool movie we deserved. First of all, Ryan Reynolds is perfect for playing the role of Deadpool and he owns every second he's on screen. The thing I like about it is you can actually tell he loves the character and most importantly he UNDERSTANDS the character he is playing. Watching him in interviews just lets you know how much he enjoyed playing the Merc with a Mouth. This is an R-Rated comic book film and it doesn't hold anything back, literally. It is violent, funny, meta. Basically everything I love in a movie. And I mean it probably doesn't get any more meta than this and that's why Deadpool works perfectly because it knows exactly what it is and what it needs to be and it expresses that. The movie is told in a nonlinear way, which absolutely works to its advantage because the plot is very simple, especially as a comic book film, so the nonlinear way of telling makes it feel original. The thing I knew some people were worried about was if the love story was gonna work or not. The answer to that is yes, because everything that happens between Deadpool and his girl feels real, especially knowing her background and who she is and especially because it actually advances the plot of the movie, building our main character. Sure, like most movies, Deadpool has flaws, but they are minimal, and I mean minimal. It did NOT take me out of the experience for the most part. The only two things that kinda bothered me were that they never really explain exactly what his powers are (and considering he jumps abnormally high and does super unhuman backflips, I think it should have been explained more), although it is implied and it doesn't make any sense at all that the eyes of the costume show emotions and that he himself made a suit that is absolutely perfectly made and tactical, but it's so awesome. And who the heck cares anyway? The movie surely doesn't. have to emphasize I am looking at this through a microscope, because I loved every minute of Deadpool. Deadpool blew me away with its humor, violence and especially the meta. The scenes I loved the most were when they referenced something real or when it made fun of itself. There are some clichés in the movie, like the evil British bad guy and the comic relief character, but the movie makes fun of those clichés. I had a blast with Deadpool, from the opening credits to the post-credits scene, I had a big smile on my face 98% of the time. It's a movie that understands exactly what it is and it executes the things it has to do perfectly. Deadpool is not only one of the greatest comic book movies ever made, it is one of the funniest movies I have ever seen. VERDICT 4.8/5 Stars!

My familiarity with Deadpool was nil going into this movie. But, I've been a fan of pretty much all the Marvel and DC movies to date and really was just looking to turn off the brain-pan and enjoy another superhero flick. I wasn't expecting high cinema, just a good time with a cool/fun superhero movie--MISSION ACCOMPLISHED! If you're a fan of the comic, I can't speak to how well this translates or would meet your expectations. All I can say is that for a popcorn flick and superhero story, I thought the comedy was sharp with a number of laugh-out-loud moments; the fight scenes were stellar while being amusing themselves, and the action and story were fast-paced and never dragged or seemed tedious...all in all, it was just a really good super-hero flick that HAPPENED to have an R rating, but don't go into it just because you're curious about the rating (or even the 4th wall schtick...it honestly didn't come off as THAT ground breaking, really just having the main character narrate to you rather than voice-over). Don't be fooled though, if your pre-teen/early teen is hard up to see another superhero movie, this one is a HARD R for a LOT of language, a lot of really bloody violence, and a brief but pretty graphic set of "unclothed activity" scenes. The language and violence were definitely pervasive, but really no more than the spate of recent raunchy-mouthed rom-coms and action movies, so if you're fine with those, you'll be fine here. And those "other" scenes, while gratuitous for a superhero movie, were actually appropriate given the tone/direction of the story. Overall, this movie really didn't grab me because of all the hype about the 4th wall breaking or edgy, R-rated content; it grabbed me simply because it was a good, fun, funny action/superhero movie...if you're familiar with Deadpool, so much the better I would imagine as I understand this film hit pretty close to home; but even if you're not, I'm willing to be you'll have a good time with this flick!

This review is from Deadpool [Includes Digital Copy] [SteelBook] [Only @ Best Buy] [Blu-ray] [2016]
First off, Deadpool is a great movie, I loved it, but I'm not going to be reviewing the movie, instead I'm looking at the Steelbook Blu-Ray itself. This is an excellent Blu-Ray release. The picture and sound quality (the movie is really loud!) are perfect. What Impressed me the most was the special features (The DVD doesn't come with many special features, so keep that in mind if you're choosing between the two formats). It has tons of them including two entertaining and informative commentary tracks, making-of docs, bloopers, and "Deadpool's fun sack" which was my favorite thing about this Blu-Ray. "Deadpool's Fun Sack" contains all of the viral marketing used in promotion of the movie, which made me very happy as I loved the way this movie was marketed. As for the steelbook itself, its good. You can see the pictures for yourself, so I'm not going to describe it to you, but my only gripe with it was that the word "Deadpool" on the spine is literally upside down and reads from bottom-to-top rather than top-to-bottom like most other cases. As far as I know all of the steelbooks are like this. The only other thing worthy of note is that the DVD is packaged in the steelbook in a rather unusual way. Rather than being pinned to a spindle wheel like the Blu-Ray disc, it's in a separate cardboard sleeve that is tucked into the left side of the case under the clips along with the Digital download code. I personally didn't mind this because I'll never watch the DVD, but other people who watch DVD format may be annoyed. If that's the case, though, you can always put the Blu-Ray into the sleeve instead and let the DVD be on the spindle wheel. Overall, it's a fantastic product, and a must-have if you loved the movie.

This review is from Deadpool [Includes Digital Copy] [SteelBook] [Only @ Best Buy] [Blu-ray] [2016]
The concept of the Deadpool Steelbook is something that I was rather looking forward to. A steelbook with the iconic "Merc with a Mouth" seems like an excellent pairing for an otherwise finely executed film, however, this release has a few major flaws which impede it from receiving my recommendation. 1). Possibly the most aggravating aspect of this release is that of the title spine. It is upside-down. I don't know what kind of oversight was made- possibly an attempt to distinguish it from the european release- but the actual "Deadpool" logo on the spine is facing the wrong way and- amongst other steenboks or standard BluRays on a shelf, will stand out and bother obsessive collectors such as myself. B). The embossing on this Steelbook.... it is absent. The European Release of which has been teased by retailers such as ZAVVI and Amazon.it showcase a beautiful embossing on the Deadpool Steelbook that give it a tasteful sheen and "punch" to the labeling on the cover. Whether or not the domestic, BestBuy release was meant to be a subdued form of such embossing or not- it just doesn't work. III). The DVD that comes with this release doesn't have a place in the Steelbook. That's not to say that I hate DVD's- I mean it LITERALLY doesn't have a place. There is only a disc holder for the BluRay, and the DVD comes loose in a paper envelope with this steel. This is possibly the most confounding thing about this release is that the DVD comes in a paper sleeve. Was it that much harder to simply use a plastic disc holder that contains 2 Available Slots? It doesn't seem that difficult seeing that every single film that is released with both a BluRay and 3D BluRay has such insert trays. Overall- the release is... fine- I guess. It's seriously flawed in minor ways that just make this steelbook seem unbecoming to such a fan-favorite character such as Deadpool.

This review is from Deadpool [4K Ultra HD Blu-ray] [2016]
On the technical side, the amount of CGI in today's movies is begging to take away from the experience. I enjoyed this movie a lot, I became immersed in it but only after I mentally decided to ignore the obviously excessive CGI. The Acting is good but I want to point out that in general, today's movies have some horrible acting timing. For example, when one actor said a line, the other actor instantly responded with another line. They lose credibility when you begin to realize that is not even close how human interaction happens...someone say smart thing, you just don't have a instantaneous smart answer lined up to reply. I am talking microseconds here, not eve half a second (conversation with him and her at the bar when they first met). The timing is just bad bad bad for that one reason. The fast action is enjoyable and I am only giving 4 stars for the actors timing being too fast to be credible any longer and the amount of CGI seems to be more than the acting itself. I like to separate my cartoons movies, this one is just a big mixed up mess of CGI. This review affects many movies out there. Sad story I know. But just yesterday I got to play Predator in 3D and the acting and special effects and timing hit a very nice balance. Real plants, Real laws of physics, very credible. That is what a movie should be. This movie is awesome if you are a kid or if you cant tell what is CGI and what is not. But for me, all the advances made, that make this movie "awesome" are also its undoing. Too much of a good thing is still too much. It is good that I got the 4k version and it comes with Dolby Atmos sound.

Five stars for the film, four stars for the SteelBook. Unlike the product description (on 05/10/2016) and as several other reviewers have stated, this SteelBook does include a DVD copy (as is visible in the product image). When I looked at the product image, there appeared to be a faint circular outline where a left face disc holder may be, but this is not present in the actual product and the DVD is held instead in an ill-fitting paper sleeve. A digital HD code is also included backed by an instructional page on checking for testicular cancer. As shown in my attached image, special features are included as follows: Disc 1 (Blu-ray): Deleted/Extended Scenes with Optional Audio Commentary by Director Tim Miller, Gag Reel, From Comics to Screen...to Screen, Gallery (Concept Art, Costumes, Storyboards, Pre-vis, Stun-vis), Deadpool's Fun Sack, Audio Commentary by Ryan Reynolds and Screenwriters Rhett Reese & Paul Wernick, Audio Commentary by Director Tim Miller and Deadpool Co-Creator/Comics Artist Rob Liefeld Disc 2 (DVD): Gag Reel, Deadpool's Fun Sack

I laughed the second I opened up the package. Inside is a piece of paper showing examples of how men should examine themselves and grasp their #*#*# #*#*#* in search of lumps that could possibly be cancer. To my surprise this is actually a document endorsed by the American Cancer Society. This is exactly how the character Deadpool is and the humor he tries to pass on to the audience. This is the first Marvel superhero movie that is rated (R). I have been a fan of the DeadPool comics for years. The movie would of been terrible had it been rated (PG13) or at least it would of been toned down and difficult to capture the Deadpool in the comics. The studio was so afraid the film rating would keep people and kids away the budget was nearly half of other Marvel films. Prior to this movie coming to DVD and blu-ray it scored box office gold. It is currently the highest grossing rated (R) film in history. It is going to affect superhero movies from this day forward. It has already been confirmed the movie Wolverine: Old Man Logan will be rated (R). The blu-ray is loaded with special features. I thought the movie was very good myself and will be watching it again very soon. And like most Marvel movies make sure you wait until after the credits roll to see a added teaser scene. My only complaint is I was not able to buy this movie in 3D. Why the did not release a 3D version I will never know ? Maybe they are going to release one around the holiday season. I will keep my comments to myself on that issue. I am also very surprised they did not release a Deadpool: Unrated Version.

This review is from Deadpool [Includes Digital Copy] [Blu-ray/DVD] [2016]
Deadpool is vulgar, coarse, and littered with bad language. It's also wonderfully funny. I usually find vulgar films filled with bad language distinctly un-funny. Somehow this film walks the very fine line between going too far and going just far enough. Ryan Reynolds' performance as Deadpool is superb. He is a man tortured by the conviction that he cannot force his ugliness upon the love of his life (played beautifully by Morena Boccarin). He breaks the fourth wall often and gleefully. So do the filmmakers - even the opening credits are funny! This movie would have been a massive disappointment had they tried to make it (like most super-hero movies) in PG or PG-13 - it demands an R, and they delivered exactly that. There are stretches of this film which work so much better in 4k than in Bluray or DVD - the sequence counting down 12 bullets, for example - the numbers on the shell casings are crystal clear. This is demo-disc quality, showing off why you've invested in 4k TV and player.
