A: First, thank you for being a loyal Definitive Technology fan. Both the BP9080X active and D17 Demand series are considered flagship. To answer your question regarding the active woofer, some would say separating the active Bass drivers from the main speaker allows for more of an accurate sound for critical 2 channel music listening. This is purely one's taste. I agree that the CS9080 speakers are crazy good! Its in the name, anyone demanding a pure musical sound, true to the original "audiophile sound", look to the Demand series.
