Q: Can you upgrade the storage?

A: Yes and in fact the 2.5" HD is compatible with 15mm 2.5" hard drives (fatter drives usually >2tb) too. I just upgraded my 1tb drive to 5tb's. No issues whatsoever.

Great all-in-one computer
Wanted to replace my Sony Windows 7 all-in-one computer. This Dell has super power and a great 27" 4K screen. It appears to be very well made as well.

Dell 27" AIO - Beauty & Full Beast
Overall Design & Build Quality Let’s get this out of the way right now. Dell’s latest design on their Inspiron desktop line is equal parts gorgeous and innovative. Although the infinity edge display takes center stage as it encases an accurate, vibrant 4k panel, the rest of the computer is beautifully designed. Below the screen is a thin, grated bezel which houses the stereo speakers and a Windows-Hello web camera. Around back is two columns of your standard ports, each adjacent the stand, and all are easily accessible. The entire rear panel of the computer is held together by two screws, which upon removal gives you access to the internals of the desktop. No removal of ram doors. No removal of a screen and no removal of a million screws and other components just to make a hard drive upgrade. Just two screws and the ability to upgrade virtually anything in the computer is at your fingertips. In terms of build quality the desktop is very well built. I personally would have preferred an aluminum build because I’m a sucker for cold steel, but the plastic used is very nice to the touch and appears to very durable. The color of the desktop appears more space grey than the advertised silver, but I prefer the darker hue anyway. The only negatives I would attribute to Dell’s design is the external power brick, which is a behemoth of a power brick, and the fact that the stand is not an articulating stand. The power brick is not a deal breaker but is a slight nuisance considering it’s large size and weight which could make concealing it and/or traveling with it an issue. The large external power brick is a necessary tradeoff however to attain the increased graphical performance while maintaining a compact footprint. The lack of an articulating stand (which allows for tilt, swivel and height adjustment) is a major miss on Dell’s part considering all their monitors include one. The inability to adjust height and swivel could limit placement for some. The Dell Inspiron only comes with a pedestal stand, which only allows the screen to tilt. Dimensions, Specifications & Ports Thanks to the infinity-edge display, the overall footprint of the Inspiron is very compact. It measures in at 394.1mm x 613.8mm x 53mm (15.5” x 24.2” x 2.1” – Height x Width x Depth) and has an overall weight of 10.1kgs (22.3lbs). The model I received (and purchased for personal use) is Dell’s highest configuration with the following specifications: • 27” Ultra-HD (4k) Matte Infinity-Edge Display, Non-Touch • AMD’s Ryzen 7 1700 (8-core) processor • 16gb DDR4 RAM (upgradeable to 32gb) • 256gb NVMe M.2 Solid-State Drive • 1TB Hard Drive • AMD Radeon RX 580 Graphics w/8gb GDDR5 Memory • 802.11ac Wi-Fi & Bluetooth 4.1 • Front-Facing 720p Camera w/Windows Hello • Windows 10 Home 64bit In terms of ports, Dell has included the essentials. Along the left edge (when facing the screen) of the desktop there is an SD Card Reader (3:1), a USB 3.1 port and universal headphone port. The rear of the desktop is where most of the ports are found. There is two columns of ports, one to the left of the stand and one to the right of the stand. The left column consists of an HDMI In, 2 USB 3.1 ports, and 1 USB 2.0 port. The right column consists of an HDMI Out port, a USB 3.1 port, a USB 3.1 Type-C port and a USB 2.0 port. And hidden underneath the stand, along the flat edge, are two more ports: an audio out port and an ethernet port. A power button and input selection (the desktop can be used as a standalone monitor thanks to the hdmi-in port) button is located along the bottom, right edge. Audio, Video & Graphics Located below the display is a grated grill which houses the stereo speakers while a very small ported subwoofer can be found in the rear of the desktop as well. The speakers are nothing to write home about as they sound very flat and have a very limited frequency range. The speakers get very loud, but lack a fullness to their overall signature. They will be fine for the average consumer, but if you’re any bit of an audiophile, you will probably be connecting stereo speakers regardless. The screen is a very accurate and bright display. The matte coating allows there to be little to no reflections and is fantastic for watching videos, playing games and editing photos. During dark scenes or with a black background, there is very slight light bleed from the bottom corners of my screen. Whether this is an issue with Dell’s panels will have to be seen. I have not seen this mentioned anywhere else, but it was present on my model, so I thought it was worth mentioning. Overall the screen is the best I have seen on an All-in-One. The AMD RX580 graphics card is a mid-tier card (equivalent to Nvidia’s GTX 1060) and it provides some great graphical power. For gaming it is an ideal card for 1080p gaming (ultra settings) and more than holds it own at 1440p on some titles. I was even able to achieve solid 4k gaming performance from lower-demanding indie games such as “Night in the Woods” & “Life is Strange: Before the Storm.” Thermals & Fan Noise Even during the most demanding tasks (video editing & gaming in my case) the excellent airflow design allows the computer to run cool. There is vents on the bottom of the desktop that brings air in and allows air to flow upward to cool the internal of the pc, exhausting out the top. The desktop itself is warm to the touch and does not get overly hot. The fans are absent during light use, but will let their presence be known when more demanding tasks are applied. While playing games (regardless of their graphical demand) the fans will morph from a quiet hum to a constant roar. It’s not a deal-breaker by any mean but is a slight annoyance. Benchmarks What’s in the Box Included in the box is a premium wireless mouse & keyboard (with USB transmitter), attachable foot, power brick, and documents. I’ll take a moment to mention the wireless keyboard and mouse. They’re nice looking accessories, but that is where the niceness ends. The mouse is similar in design to Microsoft’s arc mouse as it has a slight upward curve to it. This puts my hand in a precarious position and is quite uncomfortable after extended periods of use. Both the mouse and keyboard have a “cheap” feel to them as they’re constructed of plastic and are very light. The keyboard is a decent keyboard with an island-style layout. The keys themselves have excellent travel and an overall nice feel as you type. The keyboard is not backlit or rechargeable but does have a device selector that allows you to pair the keyboard with two extra Bluetooth devices and toggle between them. Both the keyboard and mouse require the include USB transmitter and are not Bluetooth. Who is This For? Everyone, plain and simple. The entry-level model (with a ryzen 5 quad-core processor & 1080p panel) is more than enough for the average consumer and is only $999. It even has a very capable graphics card too and an extra $100 nets you the AMD RX580 graphics card mentioned in this review. The sweet spot is the mid-tier model (priced at $1349) which is nearly identical in specs to the top-tier model (the one reviewed here), with downgrades in the processor (from a 8-core ryzen 7 to 4-core ryzen 5), RAM (from 16gb to 8gb), and the solid-state storage (from 256gb to 128gb). The top-tier model is for the professionals or content creators who will get use out of the 8-cores. Likes & Dislikes Likes: • Infinity-Edge Display allows for a Minimal Footprint • Accurate, Vibrant 4k Matte Display (keyword: Matte) • AMD’s Ryzen-Series Processors Flex Some Serious Muscle • 1080P & 1440p Capable (and sometimes 4k) Graphics Card • HDMI-in Port • Windows-Hello • Internals are Easily Accessible & Fully User-Upgradeable Dislikes: • No Articulating Stand • Gargantuan Power Brick • Internal Fans can become noticeably audible during gaming, editing or other cpu/gpu intensive tasks. • Placement of Web-Camera (necessary) • Minimal Bloatware Included; Any Bloatware is bad Bloatware. DCON Recommended? At the end of the day, you’re getting an extremely attractive all-in-one computer in a compact footprint that is also very, very powerful. Throw in it’s affordability and it’s hard to recommend anything else. This is absolutely DCON recommended. Excellent performer
DELL is a preferred computer supplier and this computer measures up to the task required of it. Love the all-in-one, don't think we will ever purchase any other model.
