For so long this film was out of print and now you will have no excuse not to see it. In one of the greatest cinematic performances of all time, the late Bruno Ganz, channels the pure psychosis of one of the most evil humans to walk the earth and becomes Adolph Hitler in his final days. With outstanding writing, cinematography and a remarkable supporting cast, Downfall is an instant classic.

I am a fanatic when it comes to the history of WWII. I rate the film as one of the best on the history of WWII, equal in impact to “Saving Private Ryan”. There is very little action relative to actual fighting of the war, but the acting and dialogue is excellent. Bruno Ganz as Adolf Hitler is excellent at portraying the effect that Hitler had on Germany, even in his last hours. I have never seen any actor play Hitler more accurately, and the movie is worth seeing just for Ganz' performance. The movie reveals what the leaders of Germany went thru living with Hitler in his Berlin bunker as the Russian army closed in during the final days. It brought tears to my eyes when you see parents killing their children before committing suicide to avoid capture. Contributing to the authenticity of the movie, most of the dialect is in German with subtitles printed across the bottom of the screen. I am not a fast reader so I had to paus the film many times in order to read all the subtitles. This was the only drawback to the film. Otherwise the authenticity of the scenes and destruction in Berlin, and the futility of what the German people suffered because of Hitler’s fanaticism in the end will get to you by the end of this movie. If you are into the history of WWII this is a must see film. I recommend it.

I really liked this movie. If you have been wondering about this, I recommend it. I'm a WW2 buff and this was a vivid recount of the fall of the Third Reich
