    Synopsis

    Draft Day
Ivan Reitman's Draft Day stars Kevin Costner as Sonny Weaver Jr., the GM of the Cleveland Browns. With 13 hours until the beginning of the NFL draft, Sonny is informed by the team's owner (Frank Langella) that if Sonny doesn't make a splash and generate ticket sales, he's going to be fired. That prompts the GM to take a trade offer from another team that gives him the first pick in the draft, in exchange for three furure first-round picks. The move outrages the Browns' head coach, and forces all of the team's scouts to dig up what they can find about the pick everyone, including the owner, expects them to make -- a highly touted QB from Wisconsin. Meanwhile, Weaver is drawn to a talented linebacker who has family issues to deal with and is known for having a hot temper. ~ Perry Seibert, Rovi

      Football's Answer To "Moneyball"

Although certainly different in many aspects, "Draft Day" provides an insider's view of a General Manager doing his job and bucking the tide with his decisions much the way "Moneyball" did for MLB. The NFL's cooperation and support in making this movie allowed great authenticity, especially in using some actual facilities and including several people and teams actually involved in the sport. The film also has a great unexpected ending. I would have easily rated it a "5 - Excellent", but I lowered it a notch because of the excessive bad language and some immorality, which detracted from what could have been a top notch family sports film. The bad language even continued in the commentary. Although these things are certainly prevalent in our society, they detract from the quality of the film for me. Because of that, I would have to qualify any recommendation to a friend to a great sport's story, but with some objectionable content.

This movie has to be rated as one of the best sports movies ever. When I first heard they were doing a movie on the NFL Draft I was skeptical, I thought it was going to be some boring movie about a guy preparing for and then getting drafted what I didn't expect was there to be humor, drama, and a great story. The movie follows the General Manager of the Cleveland Browns getting ready for draft day after he trades or the first pick in the draft. Some on his staff feel he paid too much, his owner wants the star QB prospect, but Sonny isn't sold as of yet. You get drama and humor throughout. This movie is a must see for all football fans and even those who aren't.

For the most part Draft Day is a decent football related movie. What the movie might lack in story it makes up for in acting by having a pretty decent cast. Really about the only issue I had with the movie was the ending, it was on the unrealistic side as was the initial trade deal but overall its a movie I'll watch again when I'm in the mood for some football during the off season (unless I go with Invincible instead). For me it was a good popcorn movie which is a movie that you can look past a few of the issues it might have and just enjoy it while sitting and enjoying some fresh popcorn and a cold beverage.

I am not a fan of team sports, but good books or movies about them can be sublime. And this is a very good movie about football. Cosner plays a fictitious manager of a (not so fictitious) struggling Cleveland Browns. He plays the game of liar's poker behind The Game of football that makes it all possible. Well scripted, well acted and finely paced, I find this movie more satisfying than any football game I have managed to sit through in years. And the back stories and side stories are icing on a rich cake.

This movie is a mix of interpersonal relations normally behind closed doors of a major football team and the wheelings and dealings that Team presidents go through during the annual Draft day. Costner plays a believable Team president who is dealing with major ego's and untested rookies who tries his best to make his team better through the draft. There are times you will say, I know where this is going and you'll be wrong at least once or perhaps twice. A thoroughly entertaining movie that I am happy to add to my collection.

If Only This Were The Real Browns

Rookie GM wanted to make a big splash in his first NFL Draft and he succeeds. He trades his teams entire future for the Number One Overall pick and he doesn't choose the big time rookie QB the other teams thought he would. That causes mass chaos at the top of the draft and he manages to wheel and deal his way to getting another 1st rounder, a useful player and his team's future back all in the course of less than a day. Probably could never happen with the real Browns though.

Movie came as Blu-ray, DVD, and digital DVD. I do not have Blu-ray just needed DVD version. Unfortunately, the DVD version would not play. Tried the Blu-ray assuming the dvds were simply mislabeled, but it would not play either. I am not not interested in the digital version (prefer to watch on the television). I did play another movie the same night with no difficulties, so my equipment is working properly. Everyone who has seen the movie said it is very good.

So I just loved my new video Draft Day, especially in Blu Ray. I am a big fan of Kevin Costner and Jennifer Garner, both who were great in the movie. I also loved seeing Ellen Burstyn. I think this may have been one of her last movies, since she's passed away earlier this year. I also loved seeing Sean Combs in it along with Rosanna Arquette. I highly recommend this movie, and it's safe for the whole family.
