how it's used depends on you
The particular camera I got was a great value because it was an open box item with an extra discount from Best Buy (and I used some rewards that were due to expire anyway), so I don’t have any complaints about the price point. I have not done any action video (yet), and I am still actually evaluating all possible uses for this camera. While the camera is not advertised as waterproof, it is labeled “water resistant” and can be splashed upon. The tripod socket on one side of the camera would have limited its usefulness if it were not for the rotating lens. Hence, you can even mount the camera upside down, such as with a window mount, and all you need to do is rotate the lens to get a rightside-up picture. I have used it inside a subcompact car to record a drive, and if it is used on a monopod attached to the side of the driver seat, the camera lens has a wide-enough coverage to include all of the front windshield, the dashboard, and most of the two side mirrors (and the right shoulder and arm of the driver). The back cover of the camera has to be removed (using a generous-size thumbwheel) to remove/insert the battery and the microsdhc memory card, as well as access the mini-USB port to recharge the battery. There is a rubber gasket that goes around the edges to seal the camera when the back is replaced. The camera does work with the USB cable plugged in, but that would mean you have to leave the back exposed, and risk misplacing the back cover. While the manufacturers make what appears to be a special battery for this camera, the battery is compatible with an NP-60 battery, which if you get it generically, costs much less than the manufacturer’s battery.

Good action cam at 720P
This action cam has a better color saturation than my XTC-200 HD (720P). Mounting attachments that come with the action cam should be more than enough for any type of activity. I liked the remonte control, rotating lens and the LCD screen, which makes shooting videos much easier than my XTC-200. The only drawback is the weight. My XTC-200 is way lighter than this action cam.

Good for the price
I got the HD720 on sale for $79. For that price, I really could not expect anything better than what I got. The camera works reliably and is easy to use. The image quality is respectable in bright light, and useable in low light. It has trouble with white balance in artificial lighting (incandescent, fluorescent, etc), however. The built-in LCD screen is a bonus at this price, and the rotating lens is also very useful. The only thing I don't care for is the long missile-like shape, but that's just my preference. This is a great way to try out an action cam to see if it's something you really want to get into before spending lots of money on a more advanced one.
