Synopsis

Freddy Vs. Jason
Rumored and anticipated for years, the two biggest icons of the slasher genre finally meet in Freddy Vs. Jason, the eighth entry in the Nightmare on Elm Street saga and the 11th film in the Friday the 13th series, though with Jason X taking place in the future, it should be noted that the events of this film take place after the ninth film Jason Goes to Hell. And it is hell where Freddy Kreuger (Robert Englund) and Jason Voorhees (Ken Kirzinger, donning the hockey mask for the first time in a controversial snub against series veteran Kane Hodder) finally become acquainted. Banished there for eternity, Freddy devises a plan to manipulate Jason into continuing his work, hacking up the teenagers of Elm Street. All goes well at first until Jason realizes he's been duped by "the dream master" and is none too pleased. Coaxed by surviving teenagers Will (Jason Ritter), Lori (Monica Keena), and Kia (Destiny's Child's Kelly Rowland), Jason and Freddy descend upon Crystal Lake for a mano a mano battle royal. Helmed by Hong Kong director Ronny Yu (Bride of Chucky, The Bride With the White Hair), Freddy Vs. Jason features the director of the first Friday film, Sean S. Cunningham serving as producer. ~ Matthew Tobey, Rovi

Movie - Rumored and anticipated for years, the two biggest icons of the slasher genre finally meet in Freddy Vs. Jason, the eighth entry in the Nightmare on Elm Street saga and the 11th film in the Friday the 13th series, though with Jason X taking place in the future, it should be noted that the events of this film take place after the ninth film Jason Goes to Hell and is banished there for eternity. Coaxed by surviving teenagers Will (Jason Ritter), Lori (Monica Keena), and Kia (Destiny's Child's Kelly Rowland), Jason and Freddy descend upon Crystal Lake for a one on one battle royal. Video - New Line Home Video gives us a spiffy remastered Blu-ray picture that is very pleasing to the eye. Stylized blue tint is the word in this release but never takes away from the image quality. Colors especially reds jump out of the image with just a hint of grain that is never intrusive. Overall New Line has hit this one out of the ball park in relation to the image quality this release offers. Audio - A Dolby TrueHD soundtrack is included and does a decent job of channel seperation, with discrete sounds being used effectively in the rear soundfield. Levels are excellent without surging, with dialog crystal (lake) clear! A very balanced soundtrack. Extra's - Picture-in-Picture (12 minutes) - "Terror Trivia Track". - Featurette: "Hacking Back/Slashing Forward" (HD, 10 minutes) - Featurette: "The Seven Best Kills" (HD, 22 minutes ) - Sneak Preview (BD-Live). Finally with most of the Extra's offered in HD, I think this is a must-have for any Horror Fan. Movie *** Video ****1/2 Audio **** Extras ****

I don't care what gripes anyone has with this movie. I love it. Considering the trash both series have shelled out before (Freddy's Dead, Jason X, etc) as much complaining as I've heard directed at this film I never hear any specifics. I love how they were able to put both killers in the same universe while respecting their origins. There were likeable characters which is not only astonishing since anyone whose name isn't in the films title could easily have been relegated to fodder, but let's face it, actual characters in your cast hasn't mattered in these films for a long time, if ever in the Friday movies. When I first bought this on DVD I had to search out the Special Features to scour the origins of this premise. I was in the middle of grammar school when I had first heard of this concept, that they were going to bring both monsters together so I was fascinated to read up on all the pitfalls and delays this film experienced in Development Hell. I knew once I started selling off my DVD's to switch over to HD that this film was a must. I was fine with this film's exemption from the Elm Street Collection and was just happy that the Special Features made the cut for this Blu-Ray transition. Other notable plot points that make this flick worth it are the dream sequences, the corn rave, Jason's Nightmare, and oh that fight sequence.

Enjoyment for fans of both franchises

I feel Like FvsJ was a battle between two heavyweight fighters. At the end I said "the fight was as pretty good, but I wish it were a little better." As I feel with many horror movies these days I wish the feel of the movie had been a little creepier. This movie had too much of a rock and roll feel to it. Although making this movie frightening was pretty much impossible because as time goes on, it seems that Freddy Krueger has become the master of the one liner. Jason Voorhees' appearance in this movie could also have been a little more frightening. He looked as if he had been dabbling into the latest diet craze.

It doesn’t quite hold up as well as I remember lol. That being said, it’s still a fun watch. Freddy has that same humor, and even though this Jason isn’t Kane, the actor playing him still gives it his all. If you’re board, and you’re a fan of either franchise, go ahead and pick this up. It’s not expensive, and you’ll have fun.

Finally got this blu ray to complete my collection of the nightmare series. A good movie with both Jason and Freddy that sees them go at it for justified reasons without making one or the other appear weak. To me even though room was left for a sequel and they rebooted both franchises, this will officially be the last chapter in both horror movie main stays.

This is another combo of villans gone good, a great film from begining to end just seeing two of the most crazy villans going at it is crazy enough. This film was actually enjoyable and also the person behind the fingers (Robert Englund) came back once again to put the glove on for this film, because he said that he is the original freedy and that makes him a true icon in my book

First and foremost this movie plays on the stories set up in previous Jason and Freddy movies. That being said I still enjoyed the movie even if some of the plot I was a little lost on. It has a tone and style it goes for and I believe it does a good job sticking to it.

We were always more of a Freddy fan in our household. They really should consider making more NOE movies. The 80's style slasher films never get old. A blast from the past. If this is your genre, than this movie is right up your alley!
