Tiny camera, huge protection. The car key-sized Garmin Dash Cam Mini 2 with voice control (only available in English, German, French, Spanish, Italian and Swedish) automatically records 1080p video and provides discreet eyewitness incident detection. The wide 140-degree lens and Garmin Clarity HDR optics enable the camera to capture crisp details day and night. Saved video is automatically uploaded via Wi-Fi connection to the secure online Vault. Easily access the camera remotely for Live View monitoring (requires constant power and an active Wi-Fi connection; access via the Garmin Drive app on your compatible smartphone) when you’re away from your parked car. For added peace of mind, the Parking Guard feature (requires constant power and an active Wi-Fi connection; access via the Garmin Drive app on your compatible smartphone) sends video clip notifications of incidents affecting your parked vehicle. Get more awareness around your vehicle using the Garmin Drive app on your compatible smartphone to view video from up to 4 Garmin dash cams (sold separately). A: No, the Garmin Dash Cam Mini2 does not have an internal battery. Instead, it has a super-capacitor that gives enough time for the Garmin Dash Cam to properly power down when external power is removed from the device.
A: No, this model does not include a micro SD card. It is compatible with up to a 512 GB microSD card, class 10 or faster.
A: The Garmin Dash Cam Mini2 includes a long power cable 13 feet (4 meters) for hidden installations and a shorter power/data cable 5 feet (1.5 meters) for portable use.
A: Shouldn’t matter much, if you buy a 32gb SD card the data won’t be over written for months, even if you have the mini 2 on 24/7. I had a 8 gb card and it didn’t over write for 6 weeks. You can get to the data anytime via your phone or take the SD card out and see the videos on your PC. For that matter, get two SD’s and swap them out every month if you like seeing where you’ve been or interested images. If you speak loudly enough I’m sure that both cameras would keep your recordings. They work independently of each other.
A: The Garmin Dash Cam Mini 2 turns on automatically when it receives power, continually records, overwriting the oldest non-protected videos and turns off when it stops receiving power.
A: The mini 2 is a standalone dashcam however you CAN add another to your vehicle (separate power wiring) and then use the provided APP to manage both. Remember, there's no GPS functionality with these so you would need to use timestamp to line up both camera views and remember that you get 2 separate files. You'd also need to address each to LOCK a file set. As to usability as a rear camera for your needs, as long as you have a power source nearby OR don't mind running wires to the front, this is a great inexpensive solution. Personally, I bought a OBDII power cable for my front camera and use a power outlet in the rear of my care for the back.
Q: this cam works when car is parked?
A: Yes. Only with the Permanent installed power cord.
A: It is usb-a to micro-usb and it comes with 2 cables so you can decide which to use (the heads are at a 90 degree angle so it doesn't really stick out). One head is set so the cable can drop straight down and the other so it plugs in with the cable going straight up and then can be run through the car's trim. (Would have liked to see usb-c, but having two micro-usb cable choices means it didn't cause a problem).
