      frustrating start

I purchased this range at the beginning of a kitchen remodeling project. I only had Best Buy deliver it and not install it because the project wasn't done. Delivery was fine. When we unpackaged it there was a slight scratch on the control panel that had to have occured in the factory because the way it was packaged there is no way it happened in shipping or in unpackageing. Rather than waste time asking for a new one I decided to ignore it. When I got it hooked up the oven didn't work. GE has chosen not to include a printed owners manual with the product - you have to go online and download it. I read every part of it and still could not get the oven to work. The cooktop worked fine but the oven didn't heat. I reread it and tried everything again the next morning. Still no heat. I called GE service since it was brand new and under warranty. The woman on the phone was very pleasant and clearly the call was answered in the US and not some call center. She offered some suggestions. The bad part came when she said hte soonest a servce person could be there was in 11 days! I said this is a brand new item, I"m supposed to wait 11 days to get it working? She apologized and said their service person is only in my area one day a week and was booked up for the next day he was in the area. I asked if I couldn't have a local repair person look at it and she said they'd only cover it if their person looked at it. I then called Best Buy to make sure that I had followed the proper procedure and he apolgized but said yes, it had to go through GE. He gave me a different number to call. Again the woman on the line was very pleasant. She asked if I had unplugged it to reset it (this was not suggested in the manual). I said no, but I can try that. Since it is such a tight fit between cabinets I pulled out the drawer and unplugged the cord. After a minute I tried to plug it back in. With the long cord and the tight space it was difficult to do and wouldn't go in all the way - one my second attempt I hit the top of my hand on the bottom of the stove and got two bad gashes. And they still couldn't get a service person any sooner than 11 days. After hanging up and bandaging my hand I managed to plug it back in and amazingly it did work. It is my third GE range and it will be my last due to the fact that they cannot get a service person to you in a reasonable amount of time. I like the looks of it and the cooktop is very nice, it has a good variety of burner sizes and has worked well so far. I've only used the oven once since I got it working, it seemed to work ok. GE has gotten so cheap they won't give you a printed owners manual and they no longer include a broiler pan either - you can order one. Due to the amount of time they expect a person to wait for repair on a new item no matter how well it works I doubt if I will look at GE in the future

      Extremely smelly range

If you like to smell chemical fumes for several month then this (or any other GE electric range) is for you. Let me explain. In recent years GE and few other electric range manufactures in USA switched to new high temperature electric wires, AWM Style 3321. Insulation of these wires are made from Cross-linked polyethylene, this material is also called XLPE. In USA wire manufactures unfortunately now use a process called PEX-B which is accelerated "hot" cross-linking and requires the use of harsh chemicals. It takes very long time for these chemicals to degas. GE considers such smell normal. We don't and had no choice but to return this range. Instead we purchased Samsung range. In Europe and Asia wire manufactures use PEX-C insulation which is "cold" cross-linking process and as such it is the cleanest, most environmentally friendly method, since it does not involve other chemicals and uses only high-energy electrons to split the carbon-hydrogen bonds and facilitate cross-linking. Such wires have CL1503 XLPE markings and do not smell at all. Hope this would help someone.

Great features on this GE Range

I have been using my new range for about one month and am enjoying some of its great features. I especially love the dual size burners, the convection oven, and the slate color. The glass top is easy to clean with Cerama Bryte. The oven has 3 metal shelves with 7 slots for adjusting the shelves. The burner knobs are metal. This range offers a 5th "warming ring/burner" and it works well for keeping gravy hot. Only a few "cons" - the lettering/numbering by the burner knobs is slightly difficult to see in certain light conditions (light numbering on slate finish). No problems seeing the middle display panel, however, as this is against a black background. The metal construction of the bottom drawer seems a bit flimsy (might bend easily) and I'm not sure how that drawer will hold up over time. But all the ranges that I looked at had similar flimsy bottom drawers, so just not as well made as older ranges. Overall, I am very happy with my new range!

      Fragile Top and Delivery Issues

I ordered this range online and it arrived slightly damaged. Arranged for a replacement that arrived in worse shape than the original. The glass top of this stove is very fragile. It's easily scratched and can be broken if you were to drop an item on it. Full disclosure, I only used the range a couple of times due to the length of time between replacement and return. Turned the oven on briefly and was overwhelmed with the smell. That may be the case with all new ranges/ovens, I'm not sure. The power boil option wasn't very impressive. I expected it to boil water a lot quicker. I didn't ding the rating because of the delivery damage, even though it's possible that the damage is a result of the manufacturer shipping process. I will explore different models/manufacturers in deciding how to proceed from this point.

      Great Stove Once Again

This is my second GE in 25 years. My first was a slide in as we jut had an old kitchen remolded and this would be the best fit. This new model is not a slide in. Houses have changed but the GE quality has not! Obviously the features have improved due to technology and later generation models but overall the GE model is superior once again. The heati stays long after the item is done in the oven, and the ease of cleaning is fantastic. So many options to choose from when cooking such as burner size and even a warmer on the stove top. There are different modes for cleaning so that caustic cleaners do not have to be used. It is equally as attractive as my slider and the improvements in technology are wonderful. Thank you for once again making a great product and hope to see you again in the next 25 years!

We tried other brands, but GE wins!!

We replaced our old electric range with a Samsung electric range. There were issues with the front of the stovetop getting extremely hot when the oven was in use. We exchanged for another, no difference. We decided to switch to a Samsung gas range. It too had issues with hot areas that were hot when they should not have been. We decided to give the GE Electric Range a try since it had good reviews. We have been very happy with it. The front of the stovetop does get warm when the oven is in use, but nothing like the Samsung. The oven temp was off a bit, but it is adjustable. Overall, very satisfied with the performance of the GE!

      So many burner sizes!

I love being able to choose just the right burner for my pan but I still need to pay attention when turning it the right direction (left for smaller burner. right for larger burner). There is still so much to learn so I have kept my manual handy if I am trying something new. The only thing I do not like is the shiny black stovetop. My last GE stove had more of a grey and black speckled finish so it didn't show dust or spots. I guess it's a good reminder that it could use a dusting.

      Good so far

We have had it for a few weeks. Everything works as it should, and nothing was difficult to figure out. The burners heat up reasonably fast and the oven so far has cooked everything perfectly In the expected amount of time. I noticed the oven door stays cool to the touch, though the knob panel can get hot. The cooktop comes clean just fine with the ceramic cooktop product. I am careful not to scratch it with pans. It is not the fastest oven to preheat, but I have no complaints. I like this range.
